I adopted my horse, Flair, from Grune Heidi and Erika and they did such a great job with her! A total sweetheart saved from the kill pen! I'm so glad this rescue does what it does or else I never would have found her!
GHFR truly is a labor of love. We were lucky to be able to have a wonderful tour of their facility with Erika and meet our beautiful filly, Doodles (known on the page as Shortcake). We met some of the current rescues and listened to their individual stories of heartbreak to triumph in the horse slaughter/rescue pipeline. Erika's hard work and dedication is admirable. She is passionate, knowledgeable, and honest. This is so much more than a rescue or a place to adopt your new best friend, this is a place of hope and new beginnings.
I adopted my mare ‘Joy’ from this rescue 2 years ago and couldn’t be happier with this horse. She was well cared for and is sound. A friend of mine also adopted from here and she too loves her horse. Erika is passionate about this cause and puts everything she has into these horses, all you have to do is visit. I’ve visited other local rescues that were more of a ‘business’...owners with cute cowboy hats on and drove new trucks...this gal with buy feed before putting gas in her aging truck if made to choose. #1 rescue. No doubt about it.❤️
I've had the pleasure of knowing Erika personally the past 17 years. The passion and commitment to these horses goes far beyond a job for her. She pours every bit of her life into her rescue and it speaks for itself in the amazing rehab efforts and results! Rehoming these beauties is the best gift she can give them! Adopt your dream!!!
I've known Erika Gilbert for many years. The dedication and determination Erika and Grune Heidi Farm Inc. puts into each one of these saves is truly amazing! Long hours, hard work and lots of love go into the process and the end results are something Erika and GHF can be proud of. Erika does an amazing job rescuing and rehabilitating these beautiful creatures and giving them a second chance at a real and happy life! The before and after pictures tell the story very well!
Erika is efficient and effective in her approach to equine rescue. She does a wonderful job of rehabilitating horses, and has a proven track record of placing them in qualified homes once they have completed their recovery. A hands-on, hardworking equine rescue!
I have had the pleasure to be following Grune Heidi Farm Rescue for several years waiting for the right companion for me. Well, I found him and he's coming to his new home tomorrow! Ericka at Grune Heidi Farm Rescue has been wonderful with the process. Their compassion and dedication to helping these fur babies get a second chance in life touches ones heart deeply. Thank you for rescuing Shade. I will love him always and he will have a good home for the rest of his life. I will always support Grune Heidi Farm Rescue!
It was an honor and an absolutely privilege to meet Erika at her farm today. She is professional, extremely knowledgeable and has incredibly high expectations when it comes to her horses care. She knows exactly what she is doing and has a huge heart. From the minute I met her, I could tell how much she loves each of these horses and how passionate she is about them. The transformation of the abused and neglected horses is unbelievable. If you are looking for a place to donate to animals, look no further. This group is very deserving of the support it gets. Erika’s compassion and dedication to improving horses' lives is truly admirable. What an awesome rescue group Grune Heidi is, and what an angel of a woman Erika is! THANK YOU for all that you do!
What can we say about Grune Heidi rescue??? Well, quite frankly... they’re AMAZING. The love and dedication, the hard work, and the beauty of not only the horses, but the farm, is truly a testament to Erika and her team. Each person we have encountered there has been a pleasure! I’m in awe at how Erika has transformed these beautiful creatures who were once at kill auctions into magnificent, kind, regal horses with the most beautiful, glowing coats I’ve ever seen. Our Spice and Copper are just stunning and we could not be happier. Thank you!
Ive been volunteering for over 3 years and i LOVE it here. Erika has taught me so many wonderful things and i learn more and more everyday.
Erika and Grune Heidi Farm are setting the example of what a reputable rescue looks like. I am happy to be a proud supporter of this rescue and of all the animals that have had the opportunity to come through her barn doors to find a new beginning! ❤️
Truly a blessing to the equine community. The love and premium care given to the rescues knows no bounds.!! Would highly recommend supporting and adopting from this wonderful rescue !!!
This is a wonderful rescue. Erika does an outstanding job finding, rehabbing and re-homing the horses. Any horses needing medical care receive it promptly. A horse is lucky to come here!
Grune Heidi Farm is a fantastic rescue. They take superb care of all their rescue horses, getting them the medical care and attention that they need. They make sure to provide a safe environment for the horses and provide high quality feed. Any horse is lucky to get to this rescue!
I visited a few months ago and was immediately impressed by the love and dedication Erika has for these beautiful horses. I love this rescue!
I have adopted two very special horses from Grune Heidi. This is an incredible farm that saves the wonderful, smart, personable, and athletic American Saddlebred breed. They work tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome these amazing horses. I will continue to support their efforts in every way!
I try to volunteer at Grune Heidi Farm when my schedule allows which is about once every other week. I love going to the farm to see the horses and Erika. Erika is always welcoming and the farm is always clean.
Grune Heidi Farm rescue does such wonderful work in saving the horses from the kill pens and THEN rehabbing them to be the beautiful horse partners that they are meant to be.
These folks in my opinion go above and beyond to help the rescued horses get back into shape, and find a home that is right not only for the horse, but the person adopting.
Gruene Heidi Farms Inc has been doing an amazing job with rescue horses. If she could, she would save th all. Am very proud of the work they do by giving these horses a second chance of a happy life.
I love this rescue! I have been involved with Saddlebred horses for almost 60 years and am heartened by everything this recue does to save and rehabilitate slaughter bound Saddlebreds. Erika brings these starving and injured horses back to their former glorious selves in, it seems like, no time flat. The care she gives them is unmatched. I am proud to support this rescue in everything they do. Even better.......Erika constantly communicates with the public and her donors about everything that's going on with each individual horse. Her rescue efforts are obviously top priority with her.
I have been so impressed with this organization. I have over 30 years in the non profit sector and over 50 years owning American Saddlebreds, the horse breed that Grune Heidi supports. This organization rehabs rescued horses and brings them back to the apex of condition before adopting them out to appropriate homes. Well worth supporting!
I have loved my relationship with this amazing rescue....Erica truly knows horses, having been raised by parents who were also rescuers ....far before it was a cool or even "known" thing....she is my go to for knowledge and I have been blessed to send several horses thru her for rehabbing and adoption....her heart and passion for the horses is unmatched....many people say they want to help. Did you know even a small monthly donation can mean hay for these deserving horses?
I've been priveledged to help Grune Heidi several times over the last few years. Their dedication to helping American Saddebred and Arabian horses in need is awesome. I especially liketheir Christmas Miracle mission. They travel to Pennsylvania to a high kill auction and save a few lucky horse's who other wise would have found themselves on a trip to the border. Erika and her volunteers bring these neglected and often abused horse's back from oblivion. Bring a twinkle back to their eyes and restore their souls. I will continue to help as I'm able and hope to visit some day.
I love this farm! Erika has the biggest heart and the most will power I've ever seen. She puts everything she has into this organization! To see what these horses have been through is horrific. I've seen horses come in and the expression on their faces are sad . She takes them in and within hours they start to change . Coming there in the morning and seeing all their happy faces will warm you heart without fail . You are saving 2 lives here truly . They truly are happy and so grateful that they have been saved . You can truly see it. I love everything about this place !!! ❤❤❤
I adopted my mare Cheyenne from Grune Heidi Farm! They are an amazing rescue and take great care of the horses. My mare is worh her weight in gold and Erika told me she would be a good fit for me, as I originally inquired about another horse that was a Lil more spirited than a beginner should have. Erika was right and now after 5 years my horse Cheyenne has taught me so much. Love her too pieces and wouldn't no what to do without her!
Everyone at Grune Heidi Farm Rescue is very dedicated to the welfare of every horse that they help. The care given here is second to none! The horses are fed quality food and are given able love and attention. The people are knowledgeable and love to educate and share their experience. Any horse that finds its way to GHFR is Blessed!
Grune Heidi Horse Rescue has a wonderful dedication to saving horses from being sent to slaughter. All of their horses receive the best care and love. This non profit organization needs your donations to keep paying the high costs of feed, veterinary care and up keep of these rescue horses as they wait to be adopted.
I see consistentcy in the efforts to save and rehome horses. I have the utmost faith that they are honest, sincere and ethical in all their businesses practice and treatment of all animals in their care..
Love this rescue. They are open and above board. Every horse I donated to was rescued. They post many pictures to keep everyone updated. You
All the horses are so well taken care of. She always keeps everyone updated on the care of the horses and how they do if they are ridden etc.
Ericka loves what she does and loves each horse that comes into the rescue. She truly has the horses best interest at heart.
This is a great rescue farm, I have the great opportunity to help out a bit on the weekend, these rescue horses are treated like high dollar show horses. They are so lucky to be at such a great facility.
These folks are true friends of horses and are dedicated to improving the lives of these animals. Everything they do is 100% in mind of saving and caring for the animals they serve. Wonderful people, excellent non profit.
This is a nice place---not fancy, but clean and well maintained . You can tell the horses are loved and well cared for. They are all friendly and groomed and happy. Erika is great. She was very easy to talk to, happy to help and answer any questions I had. She also discouraged me away from the horse I wanted because she knew it would not be a good fit and I really appreciate her honesty!!!! She already had a horse in mind for me and I now have him living with me!!! I had a few problems after I brought my new boy home and Erika was quick and willing to help me out so that the problems could be dealt with and me and my boy would work out and be happy. She went above and beyond to help and I really appreciate her!! I have recommended this rescue to several people and I just can't praise Erika and her volunteers enough for all they do for these horses!!!
They go above and beyond to help horses in danger. They get the best care and all the horses are beautiful and healthy. A place you can trust.
Ericka has a done amazing job rescuing American Saddlebreds and Arabian. She has worked diligently rescuing, rehabbing and retraining each horse in order to adopt them into new homes. These horses often arrive into her care severely under weight and spirits broken. Their transformation under her care is simply a miracle. Erika truly loves each horse. Through her efforts each horse which is in her care has blossomed into a horse with full potential to be adopted and provided their new owners with years of enjoyment
I have never rescued a horse from GHF but I have boarded a couple of fresh out of the auction house geldings there full board. After a month our grocery needing, dull looking boys looked like plump, shiney pennies! I have seen first hand the quality of care and feed she gives her horses and boarders (and now rescues) and believe me she goes way above and beyond any other boarding facility or rescue I have come across. She digs in her own pockets when needed without a second thought. Horses are happy at GRUINE HEIDI FARMS!
This is a true rescue! No skimping on quality here. Only the best feed, hay, supplements, and training for the horses!
The absolute best at everything. Erika and everyone involved at GHF are amazing people that do amazing things. They save wonderful souls from being slaughtered and give them a better life and give them the love and family they deserve. Erika has such a big heart and will go to any length to save a soul.
I have been volunteering here for about a month. I have never seen a more caring barn for rescues. I know of people who do not even take this good of care of their own horses!! All of the horses are just so calm and relaxed. Erika is awesome and takes care of the horses before she takes care of herself. I am honored that I found this place and love! love! love it! Such a wonderful place!
Erika and everyone at Grune Heidi Farm work tirelessly to locate, rescue, evaluate, rehabilitate and re-home select horses that were otherwise destined to the horrific method of overcrowded transport to Mexico or Canada for inhumane slaughter. Many of these magnificent animals are pure bred, raised and trained to be show horses, and for one reason or another, weren't considered "show quality". Rather than find loving homes, the unscrupulous trainers and/or owners neglected them or sent them to the "kill pen", never thinking twice. I am privileged to be the proud mom of one of these rescue horses that Grune Heidi Farm saved, and she is magnificent addition to our farm and family. We will treasure her forever. Save a life, and consider adopting a horse from Grune Heidi Farm!
This is an awesome place. I found the location online. Went out to take a look and fell in love with the comfort and care feeling I got from the owner Erica and the horses there. I could let any one of the horses. They were happy and smiley and stick their heads out to welcome you. She has that touch!!! Have you ever heard someone say, after I took my horse to a new place they changed? Well I say this everyday and it is NOT because my horse changed for the worst and became mean and unruly. My horse is a new horse and a different horse. She is very healthy, happy, and smiles all the time everyday. I know my horse would fight me and run and hide if I tried to take her away from there. Erica is truly a horse lover and would starve herself to feed the horses. If you are worried and unsure that money donated to this non-profit place is spent for the horses, you need not worry at all. Go out and take a look for yourself. I know you will have the same feeling as the horeses and I have about it.
A life long passion for helping horses. Here the animals always come first. You can not only see the great care they get but feel how happy all the animals are. That's what matters most.
Hands down THE best of everything at Gruneheide Farm for the horses who are fortunate to have their second chance here. Professional on every level and years of experience make it a way of life for Erika and her staff!!
I started as a prospective volunteer. I came for a private orientation and got to help out. Now location and timing didn't allow me to continue to volunteer, but I have stayed in contact and even networked through it's Director Erika Gilbert.
Here's what I can tell you about her operation. All money she receives for adoptions goes back into rescuing another horse out of the slaughter pens. She works with them, training and conditioning them to be a ready-to-ride-horse with known abilities and issues.
Part of why I couldn't volunteer was the limited time frame available to Erika. She doesn't get home to the farm from her full time employment until 5:30 pm weekdays and does the farm errands (purchasing hay, grain, and anything else needed by the horses) on Saturdays. That gives me a small window to rush off to the opposite side of the county, in rush hour traffic, to try and help... and Sundays, she does everything early - when I'm in church.
But she does have a handful of motivated local teen girls who do come help out regularly.
This lady gives all her free time and gives up any thought of something called a vacation, all purely for the love of these horses and a desire to not just save a life, but to offer them new life in a real forever home.
It's not to be overlooked, what she does for the teen girls who volunteer to clean and ride. Just letting them help gives them so much joy, not to mention keeps them too busy for temptations that could derail their life plans. There was a man like this in my teen life for me. There was a woman equine 4H Leader like this for my daughter when she was a teen. I can tell you first hand how valuable this unadvertised "preemptive rescue effort" is to the girls, their families and the community - particularly considering most other organizations require all volunteers to be over 18 years of age.
Erika has a heart of gold and always has the best interest of her animals at heart! She is an amazing woman, trying to rescue these poor souls that have been mistreated and sent off to auction. We NEED more people like her in this world!! She's helped so many horses already, the horses need her to keep saving them. She is their voice and steps up when no one else will.
Grune Heidi Farms is one of the best horse rescues! They make sure every horse goes to the perfect fitting home. I contacted them about a horse they had a few years ago, Erika was honest with me and told me that horse may not be a good fit for a beginner and then told me about another arab she had named Cheyenne. I feel in love with that mare and now she has taught me so much over the last 4 years and has become my fur BFF! Grune Heidi farm always looks at the horses best interest! Best rescue I know of by far!
Great rescue! They are worthy of your donations! Please help this rescue with your donations. They do great work with what they get and there is a serious need for s service they provide.
Grune Heidi Farm is a Wonderful loving place. Erika specializes in the rescue of American Saddlebreds, Arabians, and their x's. She is very knowledgeable and passionate about all she is doing. She is also providing a safe and happy environment for teenage girls to learn and enjoy horses.
Grune Heidi Farm will always hold a special place in my broken heart. Unknown by me, their recorded owner, this rescue learned by keen radar last year that my three Arabian mares were sold at the horrid horse auction, New Holland Sales. Known by horseman across this country, this place is a top shelf filthy place to "dump" unwanted horses which is what had occurred to them. They did nothing wrong to deserve this decision by someone ELSE who obviously knew nothing about this Breed. Grune Heidi worked very hard to get these mares to safe ground but were not provided the truth about their conditions. A caring person who saw them, did the right thing and informed the authorities! Despite the very hard work and support from YOU,her followers, it was a sad ending for two who were too starved to gone on anymore. The third mare survived, was rehabbed, did well and now has a deserving and loving human in Her life!the offenders walk away with meager fines. I will always be grateful to Grune Heidi Farm. Please know that your hard earned money goes to great things...helping the horses get out of New Holland, the mission of the owner, Erika Gilbert, who has committed to this Mission since a child. For the horses, who get to freely walk out those doors and for these three Girls, PLEASE keep donating for the others! Rita Brunner, Harrisburg PA.
I had the honor of meeting Erica in 2012. She had posted an ad needing English tack for rescued Saddlebreds. Like most of the general horse loving public-I had no clue about what was happening to these magnificent creatures. I was fortunate to have owned a Saddlebred Stallion named Supreme's Sunday back in the 1990's- so i was not a stranger to the breed.
Erica had just rescued Freedom and Liberty from New Holland. I donated a like new hunt seat English saddle and made sure to have my checkbook ready on subsequent visits.
In October 2013 Erica (along with her northern connections) made it possible for me to rescue a 6yr old Saddlebred gelding we named Sunny Boy from the New Holland kill lot. The care and expertise that she has in rehabilitating horses is unsurpassed. She has a way with the local youth as well and we all know that if a teenager gets involved with horses, they tend to stay off the streets and out of trouble. God Bless and keep you Erica!
