Clinica Verde is an incredible clinic and non profit dedicated to improving the lives of everyone who walks through it's doors. Every person on the CV team functions with a heart for service and this is apparent in their patient care, outreach projects and initiatives. It truly is the only clinic in Boaco that offers prevention and a holistic environment. It is a world class operation serving those who too often have access to the world's least and last.
Clinica Verde is an organization that is truly dedicated to the mission of serving and bettering the lives of many. The success of the various projects it takes up and the growth it has seen since its inception could be viewed as a shocking thing. However, things such as solar panels, a biointensive garden, and quality health care for those who need it the most have always been part of what makes Clinica Verde so special. It is unique in its ability as an organization to challenge itself to do those things that push the boundaries of what might be normal or expected, and in this way is truly a mighty force for good.
I have never found it difficult to speak to the amazing work that Clinica Verde does or to the passion of those involved in the organization. This belief, care, and dedication is beyond evident in every aspect of all that they do. When I went down and visited the clinic for the first time this past spring, I was astonished not because it was everything that I knew it to be from the videos, stories, and data, but because it was all of that and much, much more. There is no doubt that Clinica Verde is a new, innovative model, but for more than just health care. It is an ideal that can transcend into government, agriculture, business, and all social services, where success and sustainability is inextricably connected to the well being of the people it supports. I was overwhelmed by hope when I first walked through the clinic doors. I can only imagine what will be achieved by this amazing non-profit in the coming years, and I am so excited to continue my involvement with Clinica Verde as it continues to be "a mighty force for good."
When I met Susan Dix Lyon, Clinica Verde was a dream. In such a short time, it has become an extremely successful clinic serving 1200 women and children each month. Now the same team is reaching out to teenagers to teach them about health, about birth control, about foods. The outstanding Board of Clinica Verde has set goals and reached them and continues to guide with expanded vision. The results are seen in the dedicated doctors, nurses and team who provide clinical care as well as health and nutician eduacation every day of the year with families who previously had no where to go for aid. Every email that comes tells of more successes for these people who live in or near rural Boaco in northern Nicaragua. It is an honor to have helped support them monthly from the very beginning.
Clinica Verde is a leading example of a well run, great non-profit that is doing what it set out to do. As the visions of this group grow and expand, so do their accomplishments. Death, deformity and severe illness were frequent visitors in the homes of this very rural spot in Nicaragua. With great vision, the founders of Clinica Verde built their clinic and, in a very short span, have given sick patients hope and life and are giving the community vitality. The hospital has opened doors to maternal and infant care where nothing was available before. Word has spread quickly among the villagers and patients find their way to the open doors and caring hearts of the well qualified doctors and nurses. Ah that many of the non-profits I have worked on could acclaim such success and look forward with the same outreach as Clinica Verde.
Clínica Verde is definitely a new model of health care, in this beautiful clinic's patient care is our top priority, which is based on quality standards and with great warmth, we serve needy families in Boaco, Nicaragua, but not only we cure the disease, but also we do health education in prevalent diseases, sanitary habits, healthy food, organic farming, adolescent sexual and reproductive health, among others. Our priority is women and children and for them we care including specialized curative and preventive activities, are also very important teenagers, so we set up a counseling center on sexual and reproductive health for adolescents in order to support the reduction teen pregnancy that is very high in the region. Our patients are very pleased with the curative and preventive care they receive here and I am very proud to belong to the great Family Clínica Verde.
As a chaperone for the HIGHER (Helping in Global Health, Education and Reform) program through Clinica Verde, I traveled to Nicaragua and worked alongside high school students who gained first hand exposure to the medical needs of the rural town of Boaco. The staff at Clinica Verde welcomed us with open arms into the clinic. The students shadowed the doctors, pharmacist, nursing staff and learned about the youth program that focuses on adolescent health with the effort to minimize the rate of teen pregnancies. Learning about the various illnesses faced within the population, the students gave health presentations on critical topics such as food hygiene, vector borne diseases and nutrition.
The experience allowed them to not only practice their Spanish but also actively engage with community members. The 10 days spent in Nicaragua were very rewarding, not only learning about health issues but also learning about the culture and the Spanish language. Clinca Verde is a clinic that not only provides medical care but also strives to engage and meet the needs of the community. It's welcoming environment strives to emphasize that the clinic is not just a place to come when you are sick, but also a center for the community that promotes a healthy and thriving life for everyone. This trip is an amazing way for students to gain global health exposure at such a young age with a desire and interest to pursue a career in the medical field.
Clinica Verde gave me the opportunity to see a rural part of the world, as it really is today. I spent 10 days in Nicaragua with a group of students on a HIGHER (Helping in Global Health, Education and Reform) trip where most of us got to see first hand, the struggles of a developing country and the difference made by something as vital as quality healthcare. Clinica Verde itself, is unlike any other organization of its kind, in that it is so multifaceted. At the clinic, we learned about the garden and sustainability project on site, and had the chance to help prepare meals for the staff and ourselves that were fresh from their own gardens. We got to shadow doctors and nurses as they treated a vast multitude of ailments. We also had the chance to teach patients about hygiene, healthy dieting and preventative healthcare. We saw other staff members preparing entire lesson plans for local youth groups to teach them about everything from healthy lifestyle habits and sex education, to the importance of nutrition and hygiene in their daily lives. The best part about the entire experience is even though you are learning so much about a developing country, and the systems in place to improve circumstances for everyone there, you also learn so much about yourself as you begin to see just how far one person's will power can really go. Clinica Verde is addressing some of the most basic and rudimentary issues faced by the Nicaraguan people. It is through organizations like these, that developing countries are taught how to and given the tools to become fully sustainable nations. Great cause, and great team.
I always have had a passion for non-profit work and am so proud to be a part of the Clinica Verde team. I met founder, Susan Dix Lyons, through my college and thought that this would be a great opportunity for me to be involved in something greater, more meaningful. The past year I have worked with Clinica Verde, I realized that in comparison to many other non-profits that I worked for in the past, Clinica Verde is in constant pursuit to better themselves as an organization so that they can provide the best care. From planning multiple fundraisers throughout the year, to listening to talks from philanthropic leaders, and to researching different ways to engage supporters, everything is done in order to be the best help there is for their many patients. Clinica Verde is proactive in finding ways to be the best model of health-care for the Nicaraguan people.
As an American-Nicaraguan citizen I am very proud to be involved with such a great organization as Clinica Verde is, The great team that Clinica Verde has in our board of directors is hard working, very pro active, creative and strives for excellence, and the team that we have at clinica Verde in Nicaragua is very helpful and attentive to the needs of our patients and eager to work for the good of the people Boaco, the projects that Clinica Verde manages are focused on needs for services not served previously in this part of Nicaragua, nutrition, organic agriculture, teen pregnancy prevention, Cryotherapy, colposcopies and others, I have experience working with other NGOs in the health area in Nicaragua and I can say with property that Clinica Verde works very efficient and with high level of dedication to their patients and projects.
Clinica Verde has filled a great void in the health services in a rural area of extreme poverty in Boaco with a quality medical services, and very efficient and compassionate providers. the impact that Clinica Verde has had on the communiries is serving is invaluable, the area it serves went from having a very limited or almost a non existing maternal - infant care presence to having a center of excellence in the maternal - infant care services.
I've had a chance to both intern and fundraise for this organization via meeting Susan Dix Lyons, the founder of Clinica Verde, at my college. All I have to say is that it's a well-run non-profit supported by staff and donors with great passion for what they do. From looking at the projects conducted by Clinica Verde, it's clear that there is a lot of drive to really improve healthcare for the Nicaraguan people that flock to the clinic - something that's demonstrated from the long list of projects for the clinic shown on the website to the fundraisers, such as the Napa Valley Off-Road Triathlon, hosted state-side to raise money to support said projects. All in all, I'm proud to support Clinica Verde and it's goal to better the health of the Nicaraguan people.
Clinica Verde shows how dedicated, good people can make a real difference in people's lives.
I am a proud supporter of CV because I know that this clinic is having a lasting impact on those who, as a Christian, I am called to love and support. It is inspiring how much Clinica Verde has accomplished in a relatively short period of time.
Clinica Verde is a true success story. Starting as most do, with a clear idea, passionate and capable leadership and constant, realistic positive communication, a small community effort has expanded into a global group that has manifested and is delivering high quality health care to a poor community in northern Nicaragua. This was done in a relatively short period of time (less than 3 years) and it continues to grow today. I cannot imagine a better use of time and resources. Bravo to Susan Dix Lyons and her group of professionals, contributors and supporters as well as the staff in Nicaragua at Clinica Verde. Adelante y Ascendente!
I have served as a board member on several nonprofit organization. All of those organizations are doing great work for the community, but I have never been involved in an organization as effective as Clinica Verde. In a relative short time, Clinica Verde has been able to directly and significantly impact the lives of hundreds of women and children in a relatively short period of time. Clinica Verde's success is due in most part to its executive director and founding board member, Susan Dix Lyons, whose vision and heart know no bounds.
Most non-profits start with a wonderful idea. Few, unfortunately, are able to convert that idea to reality. Sometimes, it's a lack of funding. Sometimes, it's a lack of follow-through. Sometimes, they build it but nobody cares, and nobody comes.
Clinica Verde is the trifecta of nonprofits, putting it into very rarefied air. It was started as a dream, as a vision, of what was needed and what might help, in one of the poorest countries on this planet. It was developed by a not so small group of some highly experienced, highly gifted, and very caring people, who all believed that it could be done, and that it should be done. They were able to attract the right people, at the right time, and get just enough support and momentum moving in their favor that it crossed Malcolm Gladwell's "tipping point" and became a reality.
And, to our third point: did they come? Oh, my, yes they did. More than 14,000 patient visits in their first full year of operation. Does that provide any readers with any greater appreciation of just how badly such a clinic was needed, and just how much assistance it's providing? 14,000 patients, in one year!! Incredible!!!
Well done, Clinica Verde. Well done, Board of Directors. Well done, to all the donors out there who get the vision, see how the needs are being met, and want to continue to find ways to really make a difference in the lives of others on this planet Earth. Together, we all can make a difference, and we are, 14,000+++ patients (and growing) at a time!
And, just one more thing: we should not forget that one of the founding premises of this clinic was to devise a plan that could be repeated again and again, in other parts of the world, where the need for medical care is just as acute.
Bravo. Let's keep it going!! The need will never end. Nor should our support.
Ken Moll and Dr. Nancy L. Carteron
I have seldom, if ever, encountered a vision of caring and a desire to help those so much less fortunate than us come to life with such enthusiasm, vigor, and ongoing success. Driven by the passion of its vision, with careful and considerate oversight by its Board of Directors, Clinica Verde is on its way to becoming a reality. And beyond its locale in a deeply impoverished setting where is getting ready to serve the under-served in an environmentally sensitive and sustainable manner, it is also focused on creating a replicable model that can be used over and over in other parts of the world - as the need is just as great elsewhere as it is in this one place. Clinica Verde deserves our prayers, our praise, and our support.
Clinica Verde is a beautiful organization that is not only providing medical care but is also making a long term impact in the community that it serves. I was given an amazing opportunity to travel to Nicaragua and visit Clinica Verde. As a healthcare provider, I was so impressed with the treatment they provided, along with preventative care with outcome based monitoring to insure they are truly making an impact with the services they provide. I was so inspired and in awe with how caring and compassionate the medical staff was in providing healing and education for their patients. I saw families smiling and joyfully waiting to be seen in this place of refuge. You could tell that they just felt loved and cared for which gave them hope and that is a beautiful thing to witness. For these reasons, I support Clinica Verde and I know my donation is being used to make a positive difference to easy suffering in the world.
Not only was I fortunate enough to make the trip to Nicaragua to see Clinica Verde with my own eyes - I was fortunate enough to see the clinic open and operating and serving numerous local women, men and children - the families who are so in need of Clinica Verde. I could not only see, but feel the sincere love and gratitude from both the people being served and the people serving at the clinic.
I was overwhelmed by the commitment of both the local staff and the CV board members . The level of commitment and dedication to Clinica Verde was truly inspirational . .. And I see CV as a model project with much growth and success in the years to come.
I was on a project in Nicaragua and Central America primarily tasked with assessing the operating structures of various health clinics, that varied in services, structure and size. After visiting around 30 such clinics, Clinica Verde was the last one on my stop and while I had lofty expectations, they were easily exceeded. An environmentally sustainable health clinic serving the poor of Boaco while recovering 20% of their costs with aims to increase revenue through other socially sustainable means is mind-boggling. They're continually refining their operations and operations manual, and the clinic is efficiently run and incredibly organized. I hope to see Clinica Verdes across both developing countries and developed countries some day.
My wife and I were in the process of starting a small clinic in Nicaragua. We were fortunate enough to meet the staff of Clínica Verde just as we needed to answer dozens of questions about sources of medicine, finding doctors, working with the ministry of health, finding equipment, setting up information systems and typical patterns of illness in Nicaragua. The generous help from everyone at Clínica Verde made all of this so much easier for us and now our clinic is up and running. The example set by these good people has encouraged us to "pay this forward" and we've been able to help other clinics as they get off the ground. Thank you!
I have worked in Africa, Central America and I am a former Minister of Health in Nicaragua and one of the most exiting and compelling characteristics of Clinica Verde is the determination of the staff to provide quality and humane health care to women, children, families with almost no resources. The gardener, the cleaning staff, the pharmacist, the clinical director, nurses and doctors are all convinced that health care is to show they care for people as a key element to provide health services. The director and the staff are always looking for ways to constantly reach out, they organize health fairs, participate in the vaccination campaigns, are trying to include new services, organize patients to have the opportunity to benefit from medical brigades. Key messages for prevention, good diagnosis and treatment are what the staff is aiming for. I thank all of the board members and everybody that has made possible that Clinica Verde continues to bring hope and health to Nicaraguans.
I've been a journalist for 30 years, including a decade in Latin America. I met founder Susie 20 years ago in Central America and am astounded at the work she, her husband and staff have accomplished. Countries like Nicaragua really need places like Clinica Verde.

I'm uncertain the manner in which I came to know Clinca Verde and the incredible work they do, I only know I'm profoundly touched by every update they produce and the incredible work they do. We're fortunate at Cellar Angels to have them as a charity partner for I can think of know greater service than to provide care to another--and Clinica Verde accomplishes this in very difficult conditions. Because of their tireless efforts, women in an impoverished country are receive healthcare for the first time. Items we take for granted--a band aide, gauze bandage, physical exam and routine tests are all being administered to women for the first time. The gift of health is the most precious of all and Clinica Verde is providing it.
I encourage anyone to assist, donate or even volunteer in any capacity, the rewards will change your life.

I was given the opportunity to volunteer for Clinica Verde when it was still just an idea. Over the past few years, I have been able to watch the idea grow and become a reality. Last summer, I traveled to Nicaragua and worked in the Clinic. Clean, beautiful, and everhelpful to its patients, Clinica Verde is--unfortunately--a rarity for Nicaraguans. I felt that my presence was appreciated and hope to return in the future.
Having spent 30+ years in non-profit leadership and development I have had the good fortune to experience many wonderful organizations. I can say without hesitation that Clinica Verde is one of the finest- in every respect. The leadership is second to none, the concept and mission are executed flawlessly and with great impact, the financial management is rigorous, frugal and highly effective, and the strategic and long-term vision are, in my opinion, spot-on. I am honored to be volunteering with these outstanding people to further the mission of this wonderful organization. I highly recommend Clinica Verde as a sound, high-impact investment for your philanthropic dollars.
Clinica Verde is a model organization, both as a novel approach to health care delivery as well as a client to work with. I worked with Clinica Verde as a member of a group of MBA students, consulting with Clinica Verde on a number of strategic decisions towards the goal of financial self-sustainability. Susan was incredibly excited, supportive, and responsive from the very first call and email I had with her back when we were looking for partner clients and organizations prior to beginning any project work with her and her team. That excitement and passion, not just for the work of the clinic but even for our team's involvement and the project we took on, only grew with every conversation we had with Susan or other members of the organization. During the time my team and I spent on the ground in Nicaragua and at the clinic, their dedication to their work and to helping us support and improve their work was tangibly evident. Moreover, the opportunity to interact with and experience first-hand the work of the clinic and the population they served was extremely rewarding both professionally and personally. From our conversations with clinic patients, staff, and the local community, it was clear that everyone was tremendously impressed and incredibly grateful for the work and impact Clinica Verde was doing and had already made in their first year of operations. In fact, the experience of working with Clinica Verde was so personally gratifying that I have not only pursued other global health opportunities as a career, but have stayed on to serve as an Advisor and continue my involvement with Susan and her team.
I worked on a team of MBA students that consulted for and worked with Clinica Verde on a number of important strategic decisions to put the organization on the right track financially. From the first call we had with Susan and the others, I knew this organization was special. You could hear the passion in their voices. As the months went on, the frequent conversations became more and more fruitful. The team and I had the fortunate opportunity to travel to Nicaragua to see the clinic and town with our own eyes, and that was a really special experience for me, not only professionally, but personally too. The project served as a great capstone experience to my time in business school. When the project came to an end, I didn't see myself walking away from Clinica for good, so I agreed to serve as an Advisor and am extremely happy to continue my involvement.
Clinica Verde had me the very first time I heard its story. It is an inspiring, on the ground, effective, service provider that is changing lives. I finally got my chance to visit the clinic itself in February 2013 and it is everything we could have hoped, and more. In addition, being there made it so clear why Clinica Verde is such an important effort. Boaco has a huge number of private clinics and doctors but the vast majority of residents in the area have no access to health care at all. Susan Dix Lyons and the Board and the team on the ground are doing extremely important work. If you don't know Clinica Verde go to the website and see the videos. And get involved!
We have been going to Nicaragua for the past ten years as worker bee volunteers in the construction of self-help housing for rural villagers. On one of those early trips to the Boaco area we were working alongside Tim and Susan Lyons, a doctor and wife team with a heart to help improve health care for the rural poor. Susan took the lead in creating this dream of a medical facility called Clinica Verde that is now seeing more than 1,300 patients a month. Our annual trips to this area are now focused on doing what we can to help the clinic and its patients. It is a model of what can be accomplished by a heart driven soul like Susan's and those who come alongside to make this clinic such a success. We are most appreciative of the opportunity we have to participate in this success story. May God bless Susan, her board of directors, and everyone else who has helped to make this a reality.
Clinica Verde is the product of an incredible dream and serves not only to provide affordable and reliable health care, but to inform, respect, and educate all those who walk through their doors. The data and the numbers alone give an idea of just how many lives Clinca Verde has impacted, but my time there as a volunteer showed me something that data never could, and that is the way people change when they walk into the clinic. Individuals who have often travelled miles to get there with sick children in tow stand up straighter when they walk through the doors of Clinica Verde, an outward display of the sense of respect and dignity that going to the clinic gives them. Patients are often shocked at the outward beauty of the clinic, and the kindness, care, and concern that the staff and doctors show them. Clinica Verde is doing something wonderful and unique and I am very proud to have been a part of their vision.
It's been a pleasure from start to finish to work with Clinica Verde. There are lots of opportunities for individuals looking to volunteer their time and effort, but the work I've been able to do for CV has by far been the most rewarding and enjoyable. Susan, Mary and the rest are inspiring, motivated and incredibly generous. I consider myself fortunate to have had the opportunity to work for such an incredible cause, with such an amazing group of people.
Clinica Verde is the epitome of what a non-profit should be. Susan Dix has done a wonderful job with this project. It is an enviornmentally sustainable clinic that truly aims at helping those in need. Clinica Verde makes an enormous difference for the people living in Nicaragua. Receiving proper health care is something that is not attainable for many people. With this clinic, people can now receive adequate health care that would otherwise be very difficult to attain. Another great thing about this project is that it promotes health from the ground up. In order for people to have overall good health they need to be in a healthy environment and the clinic achieves that beautifully.
Clinica Verde is a stand-alone, non-profit organization created in 2007 by a young wife and mother in the Napa Valley of CA, to build a “Global Prototype of an environmentally sustainable health clinic in a poor area of Nicaragua,” the second poorest country in the Western hemisphere.” The clinic’s focus is on prenatal care for women and pediatric care for children. These needs are brought home to me by two statistics that, in Nicaragua, natal mortality is 20 times that in the U. S. and 20 per cent of deaths among children under five are due to treatable causes.
The world is filled with desperate needs by poor people in dysfunctional countries and many charitable projects have been organized by well-meaning people to bring hope and change to their situations. Too often, the projects are poorly organized, poorly funded and poorly led. Predictably, their efforts raise false hopes, waste time and money and end in failure. Clinica Verde is an exception to this pattern. Susan Lyons, its founder and chairman, organized an outstanding Board, raised more than a million dollars from local sources and built a beautiful, environmentally sustainable health clinic which began operations in January of this year. The clinic now is providing outpatient services for the general public as well as targeted services for pregnant women and young children, and is doing so in a way which expresses compassion and respect for the people it serves, who, often, have experienced very little of either in their lives.
A common feeling expressed by many who enter the clinic is that they cannot believe such a beautiful place has been constructed for them, but it has been. And we now are considering possible ways to replicate the effort, with joint venture partners, in other impoverished areas of Nicaragua and the world.
As a Founding Member of the Board and the Principal Architect for the Project, it has been my great pleasure to sign on to Clinica Verde. Over the past 30 years I've worked on many community projects and very few capture my heart and mind like CV has. First, the benefits of this type micro-healthcare produces immediate results in impoverished communities. Second, it's easily duplicated and therefore can be tailored to a community's specific needs -- in the case of CV Boaca, Nicaragua, families were the primary end users. They needed access to healthcare but information and education as well. Finally, the environmentally friendly design and building methords challenged me as an architect and the Board in general to bring something holistic and lasting to our world.
I first volunteered at Clinica Verde in October 2011, doing basic manual labor to help the clinic prepare for its January 2012 opening. I absolutely fell in love with the clinic, its mission and vision, and the potential to change lives. I came back to volunteer in December 2011, and then decided to spend a year as a volunteer - all of 2012. I am absolutely inspired by this clinic - the focus on women and children living in desperate poverty is so needed. The clinic gives the very poor a sense of dignity and worth ... such a critical first step in improving health and quality of life. Clinica Verde is a stunningly beautiful and clean facility, delivering high quality care to rural populations who have virtually no choices. Having spent more than three months at the clinic, I am seeing the tangible, measurable impact the clinic is having. I see women who have lived their whole lives on the margins of society begin to believe that perhaps there is a chance to be healthy, to care for their families. The statistics are daunting - extreme poverty, high rates of maternal and infant mortality, and very high rates of teen pregnancy. But, I believe so strongly that Clinica Verde can and will make a difference and begin changing those odds that I gladly gave up a year of my life to be a part of this amazing charity's work. The clinic is still new, so there are lots of changes, every day. But I am confident that Clinica Verde will have a major impact on the lives of poor women and children in Nicaragua.
Thanks, Jennifer! We are so lucky to have your service and leadership!
We all at one time or another have ideas on how to help someone but to see an individual put her idea into bricks and mortor to help thousands was truly inspiring. I was forturnate in being at the first meeting that Susan Lyons spoke about a clinic in Nicaragua to aid women and children. Now 4 years later I am blessed to know that in my own small way I contributed monthly to making Clinica Verde a reality. Susan kept us all up to date from the groundbreaking ceremony to seeing patients in the clinic. To know that these women can now deliver healthy babies and learn how to feed their families nutritious meals puts a smile on their faces and mine. Please give generously to Clinica Verde so they can continue to implement programs to enhance these patients lives and keep those smiles coming. Thank you.
Thanks for your kind words! Your continued support means the world to us!
I have watched this vision that the founders had grow into a reality. I have visited the Clinic in Nicaragua and I know that it is serving the people that need help. It is truly amazing what has been accomplished by this wonderful nonprofit organization. I only wish I could give more monetarily to help keep it going. I do travel to Nicaragua to do other philanthropic tasks and I am very willing to help out as much as I can with Clinica Verde during these visits. Clinica Verde is a prime example of how a nonprofit should operate!
Thanks, Tom! You'll always be a part of Clinica Verde!
I helped design collateral for Clinica Verde fundraising efforts. It was a pleasure working with the CV team and I was honored to help with their effort to bring quality healthcare to mothers and children in Nicaragua.
Clinica Verde is one of those few charities that really make a difference. Although small compared to some of the big mammoths, they treat the people that they help as human beings that are exactly the same as we all are, with similar neds and desires, rather than as poor people that need help. Clinica Verde believes in sustainability - in more than one aspect - and in doing things together and locally, and it puts its money where its mouth is on all these points. They are a group of extremely dedicated people, who through this dedication, and through old-fashioned very hard work, get things done!
We are so fortunate to have your leadership and support, Eelco!
I have always been drawn to actions that have a true impact on other's people's lives, and I believe Clinica Verde takes this to another level. Ever since I first heard of it, I was impressed by what a selfless act it was, looking for no profit, fame or advantage, other than serving the people of Boaco, a city in great need in Nicaragua. Clinica Verde understands to the very core, the importance of protecting our young, by providing them not only health services, but support, counseling, and a safe haven to learn the things that will really take them somewhere in life. It centers women and children in all its tasks, and without a doubt will work hand in hand with the local initiatives already at work. This is indeed a highly organized, driven, passionate organization, with great people behind it, and just as great people benefiting from it.
Clinica Verde is a non-profit organization building a future for women in Nicaragua. I started to get involved with this organization when my mother joined the Board of Directors and I heard about the cause. I was moved by the anecdotes of several young girls that get pregnant at an early age and lack counseling or care. Clinica Verde is a new model of care for families in need that can be replicated in other developing countries.
If all non-profits operated like Clinica Verde the World would be a better place! By integrating health care, nutrition & gardening advice, childcare and farmer's market, all in an ecologically sustainable and replicable format, Clinica Verde shows the way forward, while being very sensitive to the needs of its community. We gave a little money, advice and encouragement and they ran with it! We could not be more proud of Clinica Verde and Susan Dix-Lyons.
ClÃnica Verde is an innovative project that will serve an extremely vulnerable and deserving population – a population that is among the poorest in the Western Hemisphere. Perhaps ClÃnica Verde’s most exciting aspect is that it has been designed to be environmentally sustainable and replicable from the very beginning, so it provides a clear model for steadily increasing access to care throughout the region and throughout the world. Under Susan Lyons’ outstanding leadership, ClÃnica Verde has assembled a top-notch advisory board and is weaving close ties with its future client community as well as with other major charitable, government, and health care institutions in the region. This network of support will ensure continued project momentum. I’m very excited about this project and have no doubt that it will have a tremendously positive impact on health outcomes in Nicaragua.
I have a particular interest in Central America as I have other business responsibilities there. Once I learned of this project and met the people in my community who were involved, I was inspired to lend my food service design expertise to this vital project.
Clinica Verde is doing amazing things for people who are really in need. The BOD and their contacts in Nicaragua are top notch. I am happy to support the work of Clinica Verde.
My introduction to Clinica Verde came from a dinner a few years ago when Susan Dix Lyons asked my husband to be a Board Member. Though I felt his plate was full with other non-profit board responsibilities, I could only encourage him to become involved. The dedication, passion and respect displayed by this Board to all aspects of their mission is truly amazing in the non-profit and volunteer world.
I am the Parish Priest of the Episcopal church taht the Lyon's family attends in St helena, CA. It has been both a privilege and a blessing to be a witness to the inception of Cinica Verde, and now to see it about to open its doors. Susan Lyons has incredible passion, administrative expertise, and team-building skills that would be the envy of any Pastor. The work she has done to cast a life-changing vision and galvanize people around it is nothing short of miraculous. Were one to ever wonder how the hand of God works to make love manifest in a broken worls, one need look no further than Clinica Verde. What a story and what a ministry. May God continue to so richly bless it. Pax, MAC+
Clinica Verde is an exciting innovative nonprofit run by a team of highly skilled individuals. Their vision, dedication and ingenuity make this organization special in a world of nonprofit organizations.
I believe in the good works of Clinica Verde because the organization will improve the lives of the imoverished by providing the medical care and equipement we all take for granted. For instance, Clinica Verde will reduce the high number of preventable deaths that result from complications during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period in a largely rural and low-income area. Having said this, the overall vision of the founders is to increase educational attainment and to promote economic opportunity.
I am a dutch citizen and met the President and Founder of Clinica Verde in California late 2007 during our holiday. My wife and I were really impressed by the passion, commitment and knowledge of her and the Board of Clinica Verde and were able to raise funds in Europe for this wonderful cause. Clinica Verde is a prototype nonprofit organization in need of the last small push of donors to finish construction of their first, much-needed, project in one of the poorest regions in Nicaragua.
Cinica Verde is a very important project, not only for the small Nicaraguan community in Boaco, but for the rest of the world. It is a model that if succesfu, could be used in other countries and towns with similar needs around the world. I a m very satisfied with the Organizaion and the way they have mobilized to gather resources.
Clinica Verde has dynamic leaders, a clear vision & has pulled together a varied group of resources to accomplish it's goals. I was first impressed with it's awesome ideas, but have continued to be impressed with their follow-through and high level of professionalism. Clinica Verde has EVERYthing it takes to be a successful non-profit.
I have been involved with Clinica Verde for the past 3 years. I have been impressed by the quality of the board members in the US and abroad and their commitment to building a sustainable and innovative medical clinic. The project planning has been intensive and deeply considered and the ongoing construction is being carefully monitored by the board. All of the board members have given financial support to this project and will see that it is wisely spent.
I have visited Nicaragua on several occasions with Clinica Verde and seen first hand the deplorable quality of the medical resources available to persons in the area it seeks to service. I am impressed by Clincia Verde's "vision" to provide health and hope to persons who currently receive little of either. I also am impressed by the quality of the people associated with the effort, in both the United States and Nicaragua, and with their continuing success in implementing the vision.
After 10 years of personal experience in Nicaragua & varied experiences with other non-profits, I can unequivocally say, that Clinica Verde is not only filling a desperate need, but their execution is exceptional on every level; organiztional, fiscal, environmental, bi-national & most importantly emotional. Compassion leads them while intelligent execution is making their goals a reality. There is no non-profit that meets higher standards.
This is a great organization that is creating sustainable health care in Nicaragua with the intent on expanding this to other parts of the world
Clinica Verde is building an environmentally sustainable health clinic for women and children living in poverty in Nicaragua. The organization has a great, committed, bi-national board comprised of U.S. and Nicaraguan docs, a LEED-certified architect and development specialist, bilingual lawyer, the director of its Nicaraguan Foundation partner (The Violeta Chamorro Foundation), experts in finance, and others. We have strong grassroots support in Nicaragua and the support of established individuals and foundations in the U.S. and Europe. But most importantly, Clinica Verde exists out of the most human of impulses – to demonstrate compassion and love to those in need. We seek to change the lives of women, girls and their families by providing health and hope.
