Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals, Wildlife Preservation & Protection

Mission: The Bird Gardens of Naples is a non-profit organization whose sole concern is parrot welfare in captivity and conservation of wild parrots. We are an outreach and placement program which places into safe custody, parrots which are abandoned, abused, or in need of a home for any reason. Parrots are intelligent, highly social and complex beings with lifespans of up to 100 years. The individual bird’s best interest and well being of the present flock will determine if a parrot is accepted into the organization. We actively support networking with other parrot welfare groups, animal welfare organizations, the veterinary community, conservation organizations and the general public. Education is of the utmost importance concerning the well being of a parrot and its ability to successfully live with its human companions.

Target demographics: Companion Parrots through sanctuary, rescue, and educational outreach

This parrot sanctuary is expertly run by Keriellen. I run a parrot club and refer many people looking to rehome their bird or adopt a bird here. She takes in all parrots and adopts out every one if possible. If not, they live the rest of their days protected, fed, and in a beautiful, natural environment. I truly respect Keriellen and all she does for the parrot community.

Absolutely one of the best sanctuaries in the United States that is opperated by a person with a beautifully compassionate heart, the drive to overcome and press forward with confidence, and a brilliant mind that has the ingenuity to effectively problem solve the crisis of what can be done to help too many captives bred or wild caught parrots without a home. I have been to this sanctuary, and they have lovingly taken in more than 30 unadoptable parrots that we had taken into our rescue. I have nothing but upmost respect for all the wonderful work they do and the immaculate care of their birds.

Kerriellen Lohrman's Bird Garden does a wonderful job of bird rescue, with active programs for bird "foster care" and rehoming, as well as a great environment for birds that cannot be placed. Her tours are educational for young and old. We recommend this place for bird lovers of all ages!

Because of the wonderful people who run this sanctuary, my parrots are with me today!
Two years ago, I was diagnosed with lung cancer. Taking care of me and our little flock was overwhelming for my husband. Friends from my local bird club stepped in and introduced us to Keri who offered to shelter my amazons while I went through treatment.
I am SO thankful to Keri and Griff, who is now fighting his own cancer battle while still attempting to help others!
Please take the tour when you visit Naples, FL and donate to this worthy establishment.
Without them, my beloved birds who have been part of my family for decades would have been given up.

I love the birds..I've been involved with breeding birds for almost 20 years now. I lived and worked at the Bird Garden of Naples for the last 3 years or so. While the conditions at the Bird Gardens of Naples, look good the the average person, they is much that goes unseen or is hidden from public view. If the public would know what goes on there, I doubt if they would support the owner as they do. The place is infested with rats, and many, many birds have been killed and eaten by rats. A problem that could be solved, but hasn't been. I would estimate while I was there, over a hundred birds have been lost to rats. .The flights and cages are built in a low area; durning the rainy season, which is half the year, the mosquitos are attacking the birds in their cages and flights. The birds are trapped in their cages with hundreds of mosquits attacking them... yet no one seems concerned, out of sight, out of mind. Of course the management stays indoors, ...If you don't think mosquitos are a problem, I suggest you spend the night in in a cage in the everglades / swamp. Up until recently, the birds were forced to drink sulfur water....it took 5 years to solve that problem.... try drinking untrested sulfur water for 5 years, see how you like it.

To me, the most upsetting thing and the root of many of the problems there, is the owners uncaring mindset when it comes to killing small animals. I personally watched her bludgeon a squirrel to death with a 2x4 for no reason except she does not like squirrels. The owner knowingly lets the hawks swoop down and kill baby chicks, peacocks and ducklings... at least 150 that I know of....I wanted to protect them from the preditors, but the owner objected. It's nature's way according to her. However it is very irresponsible and cruel way to raise poultary. In effect all she is doing is feeding the hawks, which is illegal. In my openion she should be arrested for animal cruilty. The owner's mantra is if a person can not take care of their animals they should not have them. I agree, problem is she can't take care of the animals she has, so she should get rid of her's and stop being such a hypocrite. Many of the problems at the Bird Gardens of Naples, can be solve, but it take someone who cares about all animals, not just parrots. In my openion she should be arrested for animal cruilty, and replaced by someone who is not a Narcissistic Sociopath. I am trying to kept this review short. This is just the tip of the iceberg. To fully expose all that is taking place at the Bird Gardens of Naples would require many pages. If you do take a tour, you may want to ask the owner what she is going to do with the two freezers full of dead birds she has...

I learned about Bird Gardens of Naples about 2 years ago. Since then I have fostered, adopted and boarded birds with this amazing place. I do not know how Keri does what she does but she is amazing!! I always try to schedule my visits during her tours because I LOVE seeing all the birds. Seriously she has over 300, maybe even closer to 400 of birds at her sanctuary. I can never get enough of seeing so many different species and the wide array of colors and sounds! Each time i'm there I learn something new and it keeps bringing me back for more. She helps spread the awareness that bird ownership is not as easy as people think it is. You cannot "own" a bird. Seriously they are in charge...ALL the time... As a result many birds end up abandoned or neglected and eventually/hopefully in the hands of someone that can love them as much as Keri. Some of the birds are injured or no longer trust people and she provides them a safe place. Some come in that have outlived their owners and just need a new family to love them. Her belief and goal is that no bird that's adoptable stay in sanctuary. They need to be loved and to love in return. Those birds she finds adoptable homes for. Some of the iffy birds like my buddy "Jack-o" (African Grey bird with an attitude) can be tried in a home as a foster in hopes that they will trust or "choose" a person. Jack came to Keri with a broken wing and an infection. She got him vet care and did weeks or shots and medicines and boy he no longer seemed to like or trust anybody! We agreed to try him out as a foster (even AFTER he bit me,) We were what Keri refers to as a "foster fail." We ended up loving him enough that we adopted him permanently into our family. After that I was hooked. I still visit and honestly have adopted 2 more birds from the sanctuary. It is a place to not be missed! The birds and almost as amazing as the owner! Please check it out and explore this AMAZING place!

Keri and her crew are tirelessly amazing. When our lives changed, Keri took in our 3 macaws for several months until we could get settled enabling us to be able to keep our beautiful babies.

Take time and walk through any of the aviaries with Keri and you will see how much all of the birds adore her, this comes from time and mutual respect.

I am a volunteer for Keri Lohrman of the Bird Garden of Naples. The Bird Garden of Naples is a nonprofit organization. Keri is very down-to-earth, sincere and caring person. She has such a pleasant personality that it's a joy to work for her. The birds are all kept clean, happy and healthy. She has 300 of the most beautiful and exotic parrots in avaiaries throughout her property. She does educational tours on the weekends. She also shows her ambassador birds for parties and events throughout Naples and can be booked through her website at www.birdgardensofnaples.org or through the Bird Gardens facebook at facebook.birdgardens.org. Caring for 300 birds, she could always use more volunteers and donations.

Bird of Naples!
Does an amazing service for the sounding communities. Helping take care of your (any) type of parrots. Caring for them and if adoption is for the bird, finding great homes for them.
As nonprofit organization they are very excited to receive any donation to help.
I received my bird from Keriellen, who runs the rescue center, and she and her group of volunteers are a great organization for birds and people of the community.
Even going to the extent to take care of my bird when I was in great need for it.
So open your hearts and pockets for this awesome group!

If you are looking for a place to learn everything you can about exotic birds, this is the place. Keri is one of the most informative people I have ever met when it comes to parrots and their habits. She cares very much for the welfare of these birds. They take a lot of work, but she never complains about the cost or the time it takes to feed over the hundreds that live on the property. She only boasts about them!!! I absolutely recommend you take a trip to Naples and visit the sanctuary where all of these wonderful creatures live and prosper.

As a wildlife educator in northern NY I contacted the Bird Gardens of Naples to inquire about a tour of their facility and the possibility of networking with the organization. I was absolutely taken in awe at the amazing care, knowledge, and work this organization does. This organization doesn't just house hundreds of birds; it houses love, compassion, knowledge, passion, and dedication. I was amazed at the cleanliness and beauty of the facility - it was like walking through the jungle and seeing a new species of bird around every corner. While visiting we also decided to adopt 2 birds that needed a home and we couldn't be more happy to have done so. I wish for more people to find it in their hearts to give to this organization!

The Bird Gardens of Naples is a magical place! I have been here multiple times and I wish I could live here. The tour is very informative and it's like stepping out of city life and into the rainforest. The birds are very well cared for and very Interactive. Kerri is very knowledgeable about parrots and other critters and is a very welcoming hostess, as she lives at the gardens. Her relationship with their birds there is so encompassing and I often wonder how she remembers all of their names.

Keri had encyclopedic knowledge of all captive birds. For those who go on her tour that have birds in their homes, she gives advice about diet, behavioral issues and hormonal events in the birds life. For those who don't have birds but are thinking of getting one, she tells the real truth about having one of these animals living in your house. They don't just sit in a cage and look pretty all day! She works closely with her vet and the community to ensure the safety of all birds, wild and hurt ones. I have personally seen her go to people's houses who have birds and try and help them through times of crisis. Allot of times these birds are religuished in times of human crisis. She will give advice and help where she can but lets the people make up their own mind about what to do when things have to change. She helped me when I was at my wits end with my bird and I've seen her help others in the same way. Her efforts of reform and education on good bird care extend beyond the sanctuary to bird owners too so that the bird can stay in a loving home and healthy environment for the bird. Her birds are well fed, watered And cared for. Unfortunately this is the place for them to go when there is no where else but Keri takes them in and makes sure they have proper cages, water, food, fresh air and sunlight. Basic things that abused and neglected birds do not receive. She has a hoard of people helping her and that is the only way a place this large can withstand the demand of so many unwanted birds. Keri knows how to network and find people who are passionate about birds. She is very warm and welcoming and shares her birds and their lives with all the people who come for her tours. It's a wonderful place in a sea of the overwhelming numbers of homeless and unwanted birds.

I was there visiting & Keri had this nandy conure. She was telling me about him & how he didn't like ir go to anyone but her. I was helping cleaning cages & decided to see if he would come to me, with Keri's permission of course, I took him out of his cage, he stepped up when I asked & he didn't want to leave my side. So I spoke with Keri & we decided that he decided to be my friend, we made the arrangements & he came home to RI a few months later. Today he is happy & well cared for & still doesn't leave my side. It's mutual love & friendship

I went to the Bird Gardens of Naples and volunteered for a week with Keri. She is amazing. I still don't know exactly how she can name every bird she has as well as give a history as to where they came from where they were originally from, their health and personalities. I had the pleasure of working not only with Keri but the birds as well. While working with the birds I found a new forever friend and I can't wait for him to get home. Keri made this decision while seeing me interact with him. He is a Nanday Conure. We took to each other right away. Keri saw the chemistry and how we were with each other and suggested that if I was interested I could adopt him. I love the care she takes in making sure the match is right and that both of us would be happy, it guarantees the bird a forever home. The sanctuary itself is Beautiful and the presentation is Amazing. She not only saved the birds but she also rescued a mini horse, adopted a couple of dogs, has chickens and peacocks. I even enjoyed cleaning cages. Would recommend to anyone of any age, must see!

The birds are clean, well kept, socialized and loved.
Thank you Keri and staff for all you do for these precious feathered babies.
Well worth a donation as there are over 350 parrots and more coming in every day, who need medical care, food, shelter, training and love.

My friends and I went to Bird Gardens of Naples in April 2016. We met Keriellen Lohrman who runs this sanctuary. We went on the guided tour as Keri told us all about the parrots there. Some are housed with other parrots while some are alone. I learned that male Umbrella cockatoos can be very aggressive even to a female mate. I learned that most pet parrots would not be happy in a sanctuary because they bonded to a person or people. Some parrots it's the best place for them. Keri took in a 40 yr old wild caught White fronted Amazon that I had. This as the next best place to being free. Bella is now outside, in an aviary, with friends. As it should be.

Just wanted to post about my experience at Bird Gardens of Naples. Last October, I lost my buddy of 24 years, Marius, a blue and gold Macaw. I was heartbroken. It took a couple of months before I even considered getting another bird. I had my heart set on finding a baby macaw and started searching for breeders. A good friend of mine suggested I contact Keriellen Lohrman at Bird Gardens of Naples (about a 90-minute drive from where I reside. To humor my friend, I agreed to make the trip to Naples with no intention of adopting (I wanted a cute little baby). Keriellen and I agreed that I would come by, take the tour, a have a “meet and greet” with her adoptable birds. I was immediately blow away buy the size of the sanctuary. I expected a shed with birds. Bird Gardens is a tropical paradise! What seemed like a never-ending luscious, clean, spiritual haven for those previously abandoned, neglected, orphaned, beautiful creatures. The tour took about 2 hours, during which time this lifelong bird owner learned more than In my 50+ years with these feathered rascals. Keriellen’s knowledge, enthusiasm, compassion and love for those beautiful birds under her care were amazing. I made new friends (both beaked and human) and happened to meet a rambunctious 26 year old harlequin macaw named “Harley.” Mutual love at first sight. The rest was history. I spent hours with Keriellen discussing my experience and my new friend’s needs, as she wanted to make sure Harley and I were a good fit. No stone was left unturned. Harley and I have been practically inseparable, thanks to the wonderful opportunity I had at Bird Garden of Naples. I remain in contact with Keriellen and other friends I met during the tour. That day In January turned out to be a life altering experience and I will be forever grateful :-) Visit this amazing place. If you are not currently a love of birds and nature, you will be transformed

My mother is on disability and became quite ill. Though she loves her birds and has even taken in rescues herself, she is no longer able to offer the care they require. Compassionate and determined Keri, who operates this haven for these emotional and intelligent creatures, is an angel sent for both birds and humankind alike. Upon meeting her I was drawn to her fervor for both helping people and these winged souls with nowhere else to turn. Her intimate knowledge of each individual birds personality, history, and needs astounded me. Thanks to Keriellen, each bird was given a well researched loving home and proper care that they so desperately need. She kept correspondence with my mother to ease her worry and distress. I was able to visit with them as well. Keri is facing a real problem. People do not understand what a commitment to an animal with the smarts of a toddler and a lifespan that rivals our own really means. They are not pets. An epidemic of parrots without people is only growing everyday. Angels like Keriellen Lohrman are our only hope.

After countless retreats to the Bird Gardens of Naples, it has become my treasure. I grew up rescuing and adopting birds so this place is a haven for me. As a photographer I’ve had the opportunity capture so many beautiful images at the gardens, where there are hundreds of beautiful and exotic birds including some rare and endangered species from across the globe.

Keriellen’s dedication to these birds is above and beyond anything I’ve seen before. She is so knowledgeable and informative about all of the birds, which allowed me to learn and experience so much more than I ever expected. She has rescued many of these birds from terrible situations and I really appreciate everything she sacrifices to give them a good home. Unfortunately for many birds the damage from their previous homes are permanent, such as severely plucked feathers.

I recommend a tour for anyone who has any interest in animals or birds. It’s great whether you’re interested in an education about different breeds or stories of each bird and where they came from. After bringing friends and family to visit, many realized just how much personality birds have and how fun they can be.

The grounds of the bird gardens are more natural and less manicured, unlike a zoo or typical animal attraction, which gives a feel of actually being in the wild. With that in mind, bring bug repellant and a cool drink for your journey. There's no fee for your visit, but donations are appreciated.. the cost for upkeep would make you sick!

The Bird Gardens of Naples is a wonderful sanctuary. The owner, Keri, has devoted her life to the care and rescue of nearly 300 birds. You can see how much she truly loves each and every feathered friend - my parrot loves it here. Keri was kind enough to take my parrot in (hopefully temporarily) and our sweet girl is so happy at the sanctuary. I dreaded finding a place for her to go and am so relieved that I found Keri and her wonderful bird haven. Keri lets me visit my girl/volunteer whenever I like - I can't say enough good things about the wonderful care and attention the birds receive. Their standard of care is excellent and I love that my bird lives in a flight with 6 other parrots. Keri is a bird lover through and through. Her knowledge is impressive, as she's taken care of birds for years. Visit here, you won't be disappointed and you'll come away with a great bit of education and understanding of many types of birds. A++++ Non-profit!!! A major asset to Naples and SW Florida!

When you step into The Bird Gardens Of Naples, the first thing you hear are birds happily being birds. Then the feeling of peace and tranquility there hits you. It is nothing short of magical. Keri has become more than a friend to me. She is a sister. Keri's love and devotion to the birds is so clear, she is an amazing and hard working person. Someone mentioned Keri as being a "Bird Whisperer", I say this often. Her knowledge of birds & their care is second to none. The hard work of Keri, family, and volunteers is turning The Bird Gardens Of Naples into what a sanctuary should be. A place where birds can be birds, never being told to "be quiet". They can sound off and they do, in a jubilant way! Make a point to visit and donate to The Bird Gardens Of Naples. It will be an experience you will not only enjoy, but cherish as a high point in your life! Thank you Keri, family, and friends, for making The Bird Gardens Of Naples what a sanctuary should be!

I have been there i my capacity of a volunteer with the Bird Lovers Club in Pembroke Pines FL -- assisting in building a new macaw flight.

When I first stepped onto the property I thought I was on a tropical island, we all the unique foliage and the birds' flights build into this tropical landscape.

It is great there and I would suggest that one would visit and volunteer.

We have not only visited Bird Gardens of Naples, but have also placed several birds in their care. Keriellen and her family have created a desperately needed haven for parrots that are left with no where else to go. The parrots who live here are surrounded by natural beauty and given the opportunity to enjoy their lives as they wish. Large, well spaced flight aviaries equipped with water systems, natural perching and multiple forms of enrichment, as well as quality food and organic fruit grown on the property. The caregivers are extremely knowledgeable in avian medicine, nutrition and behavior and spend many, many hours a day with the parrots. Bird Gardens of Naples is a great facility and deserves recognition as a Great NonProfit.

I've not had the pleasure of visiting Bird Gardens yet but know just from talking with Keriellen and looking at pictures that she has a wonderful home for many needy birds and her cages and aviaries are immaculate and she has her birds on great diets and gives them much love and excellent care. She is a wonderful person who is also very giving to her human friends. I have not yet met her in person but she has offered to help my partner and I with anything we need in our battle with cancer. An amazing loving woman and wonderful aviculturist. The world should have more people like her.

As a bird owner I was told by a friend about Keri. So this summer my daughter and I took a weeks vacation to Florida making a stop by to visit Keri and her flocks. AMAZING isn't even close to the experience we had there! She named off every bird with a brief history of each one! She went into details about how you can look at a wild caught and a "born in captivity" and see and tell the difference! I learned so much that day that even as a bird owner who has been to the best vets with my birds didn't tell me. Some of my birds came to me in not the best shape, and lots of trips to the vet, and medicines I learned a bunch but nothing compared to what I learned from Keri! Keri is such a wonderful women and cares so much about birds and kids as my daughter got her first fire ant bite! Keri rushed into action doing everything including keeping my daughter calm. My daughter had ants on her feet " she had to get Florida flip flops" and wear them, and only got 1 bite! Keri took us into her home and fixed her all up. There are not enough kind words I can speak about Keri!! Her knowledge is remarkable!!

The Bird Gardens of Naples is a great adventure and learning experience. Keri knows so much about birds and seems to be a "Bird Whisperer"!! They are working so hard to turn this great piece of land and their dream to care for birds into a place where people can come and learn and have fun at the same time. There's something neat to see around every corner. It's so relaxing to be out in nature and see these beautiful creatures and listen to Keri talk about them! The kids will find this very interesting and I think schools should make this a field trip destination! Keri is truly a caring person and loves animals of all kinds. All the birds who are at the Gardens have been rescued and have been given a second chance at a happy life thanks to Keri and the Bird Gardens of Naples!

What an amazing individual~~Keri truly knows the feathered ones as well as they know & TRUST her! The interaction between Keri & the birds is fascinating to witness. There is no doubt about the love & adoration shared. Keri devotes her life to the feathered ones & she knows each & every story each bird comes to her with! The birds' long life spans contribute to most everyone of the birds having experienced ups & downs throughout life's journey. Today they live content & safely tended to with unconditional love at Bird Gardens of Naples.
