Big Cat Rescue provides an awesome service for big cats that, sadly, is more necessary now than ever. Big cats deserve to live in the wild, but there are so many in the hands of private citizens that are abused and neglected. BCR helps these animals and gives them a home for the rest of their lives, complete with plenty of food, enrichment, vet care, and love. BCR also plays an important role in advocacy for big cats, trying to help them in all areas. The world would be a much worse place without the staff and volunteers at Big Cat Rescue. I visited them in November 2014, and I wish I lived closer so I could visit over and over. To see these amazing animals is a rare treat, and to see them healthy and happy after what many of them have been through is nothing short of a miracle.

I get their emails and visit their site. I have also visited the cats. The place is awesome. I loved hearing the stories of how each cat arrived there. The cats look very well taken care of and I love how they have given the cats enviroments that have shade and water pools. The people there are fantastic in their care and love for the cats, I will certainly be going back.

I've been to Big Cat Rescue 3 times, taking friends with me twice. It is the most interesting and educational tour you can hope for. The care the staff and volunteers show toward the safety and care of the animals and humans is very evident. Any time I am within an hour of the site I make sure to go. I learn something new every time and the cats are beyond beautiful.

These people really care about the well being of big cats that are abused and exploited for financial gain. Or simply been hurt ie: being hit by a car, etc.
They answer personally your emails & letters giving honest answers to those who don't understand. If you don't have any money to give, You can help through petitions and writing or calling those people who continue to abuse big cats. Or you can buy great gifts they have from their store which helps them, and helps by giving these gifts to others to make them aware.
No gift of giving whether it's financial or by spreading awareness, or speaking out, is too small.

My husband and I visited Big Cat Rescue for the first time In March of 2012. We did the morning Day Tour and the Keeper Tour. What an unforgettable experience! To get to see these beautiful creatures up close and to hear their stories was simply amazing. Many of these cats have had very hard lives, but they are now so clearly loved and well cared for. The Keeper Tour was 100% worth the price, the cats are being regularly engaged and treated, and all of the people who work with these animals are so dedicated and passionate about what they do.

We went back this year for Spring Break, and we had a private tour. Highly recommended! Our guide, Afton, was very sweet and knowledgeable, and we also got to learn a little bit about what it is like to work at Big Cat Rescue. These people are so committed to these animals, and it is really lovely to see the animals flourishing! We keep up with BCR through Facebook, and we just recently donated to help support 6 new additions( 2 lynxes, 3 bobcats, and 1 serval) who were rescued from truly deplorable conditions on a farm in Kansas. Big Cat Rescue is going to be such a wonderful change of care and environment for these poor cats. The facility is absolutely beautiful, and we will definitely be coming back and lending support for years to come. Go, Big Cat Rescue! :)

I have been a donor to BCR for many years. When I was first introduced to BCR I was impressed by what I saw on paper and felt very deeply about the plight of the exoctic animals exploited and abused in our country. A few years later I had the opportunity to visit BCR. I was in total amazement. The area was so beautiful, the enclosures were very spacious (bigger than some zoos) and the care the cats receive (volunteers and professional) is awesome. Now I understand the address "Easy Street" This is a very worthwhile cause and organization. If you have never been there you should plan a vacation to the Tampa/Orlando area and plan a day at BCR. You won't regret it and you will come away totally inspired.

This Sanctuary provides a safe haven for some of our most beautiful big cats. The enclosures they have for them, the efforts to re-create a natural habitat and consistently treating these magnificant creatures with respect and not trying to domesticate them, demonstrates the devotion the founders and volunteers of this Sanctuary have for the creatures in their care. Its a delightful place to visit, the volunteers and guides are knowledgeable and willing to share unique stories about each animal. Their mission to save these big cats and educate the public about these creatures is wonderful. Its a lovely place to visit and spend a couple of hours and enjoy oneself and simultaneoulsy see some wonderful work being done. I can't get enough of the place, you can delight in seeing these magnificant cats so close and just be amzed at their magnificence.

Are you looking for a different and soul-enriching experience? Visit Big Cat Rescue. You will be charmed and delighted by the gorgeous felines in residence. More importantly, you will be fascinated by the devotion with which they are tended by the staff and volunteers who dote on their every want and need. While much of the world seems intent on destroying our environment, BCR is determined to preserve these elegant and graceful creatures, many of whom have been mistreated and maligned by human beings. Few facilities are as attentive to the requirements of their charges, and the result is an experience that is life-changing for both the cats and those humans lucky enough to visit them!

I visited this sanctuary many years ago and am very impressed with the progress they've made since my visit. They do such wonderful and important work by taking in and caring for all the animals they do. People don't realize how important ENRICHMENT is to an enclosed animal, or any animal, and I think it's fantastic that they are in the process of building a "vacation enclosure" for all the animals to rotate and share! I also love that they make available videos of the animals having fun during the holidays, or whatever the occasion may be. I really enjoy watching these - keep the videos coming! Big Cat Rescue needs more supporters - please help them if you can!

We visited Big Cat Rescue while in Florida this past winter and have recommended them to many others. They do much more than house these wonderful animals . Their educational efforts extend far beyond Florida and even the United States. Through email, they keep in touch and encourage readers to help abusers to "do the right thing". Their efforts are powerful and should continue to be recognized and supported.

While visiting some family in Florida we visited Big Cat Rescue. I am an avid animal lover and own 4 cats 2 of which are back alley rescues, so I could identify with their mission. The tour was fantastic although I would have liked to see more of the cats out and about (most were sleeping). The staff there are very friendly and knowledgable and you can tell that they actually care to give these cats the home they deserve. There is even a memorial area for all the cats who have passed during their residence at Big Cat Rescue. While we were there they were busy adding a 2 acre savanah type complex for the cats to be able to run at full speed and stretch their legs. I look forward to visiting again and hopefully will be able to afford a more in depth and longer tour in the future!

Again and again... An Affirmation Of My Donation.
Ive donated several times to BCR and while in the Tampa area, decided to actually visit the organization and see the cats and take the tour. I can't say enough good things about what I saw, how well the animals were kept and how they were treated. BCR gets Five thumbs up from me. And more kudos to their super-staff for answering ALL of my questions. I will continue to support this organization for the amazing work they accomplish with so many abused animals. It's NOT a zoo but worth definitely while visiting and going on the 1.5 hour tour while in the Tampa area. Easy to get to and 10 minutes from the city.

I know Big Cat Rescue solely from their videos and online advocacy, but even from thousaNds of miles away the BGC educates and supports me every day by sharing the beauty and humour of happy, humanely treated cats finally safe from their often misguided owners. The videos cheer me up; their unending efforts to educate people in how they can help and facilitate their doing just that help me direct my energies without giving up in confused frustration. I very badly want to visit, but until then, I have their internet presence. Well done Big Cat Rescue!

My husband has always been a fan of the big cats, so I decided to surprise him for his birthday with a tour of Big Cat Rescue. We opted for a private tour and were fascinated not only by the amazing animals (we enjoyed watching them snack on blood-Popsicles with chick-center treats) , but we were moved by the devotion of the caretaker and staff. We also received a great education about the dangers associated with private ownership of exotic animals, and we learned about how much in-breeding is done by ruthless breeders without regard for the high number of genetic defects caused by such practices. We also learned how expensive it is to feed and maintain the animal habitats. All together, it was a great experience. We are still in awe of the big cats, but now we are equally in awe of the Big Cat Rescue.

First learned about Big Cat Rescue in the 1990'2 when they had a booth at a fair next to ours (Bishop Animal Shelter) in Bradenton, Fl. Having spent many years caring about cats small and large this organization reached my heart. While we would always prefer the cats to stay wild & safe in their natural habitat, sadly, this does not always happen. Big Cat Rescue has stepped up to the plate and takes in the mistakes and horrors of people who have abused the rights of the cats. I have visited and taken friends there to their shelter. We have donated money, we have bought mdse to support the cats and we tell as many people as possible about them. I thank the entire staff most sincerely for their care and dedication for without them many animals would get to live out their lives in the peaceful surroundings that they do.

As a tourist in Tampa, from the Northwest, I picked up a brochure somewhere about Big Cat Rescue. The place was on the list to see, but it was near the bottom. We decided to go visit because it was one of the few things in Tampa that you can do without selling your car to afford the entrance fee. We went with the attitude of, "It's better than nothing sitting on our hineys."
My friend and I LOVED IT! It ended up being the highlight of our trip. We enjoyed seeing the cats, but it was most interesting to learn about the cats' previous lives and a little about their personalities.
This trip was far more educational than I thought it would be and I came away with a new respect for the animals and the caretakers. This visit opened my eyes to the exploitation and, (sometimes), extremely poor conditions cats are living in.
The Big Cat Rescue is one of my favorite non-profits. If I lived close to Tampa, I would be one of the best volunteers!

Big Cat Rescue is a haven for the most needy of Big Cats that need our help. Thank goodness for this organization that so passionately nurtures and cares for these beautiful creatures. Also important to note is the advocacy for these animals and trying to educate the public that animals used for profit are usually abused and this is not an environment that they were meant for. Hundreds of Big Cats have passed through BCR doors and many remain to live out their lives in peace and dignity. They are to be applauded in every way possible for all of their efforts on behalf of all the animals that are there now and that will be rescued in the future.

Big Cat Rescue is an incredible place with great staff. While it may seem ideal to rescue large cats and maintain them the burden is so great and these people do an incredible service to our nation. When big cats around the country are abandoned (as they often are) Big Cat Tescue is there to find them homes if they can, help with the move and of course takes as many in as they can afford to keep. What an inspiration and a great place to visit to see real volunteers in action!

This is my second nomination for Big Cat Rescue because they do so much to save lives of these amazing cats. I live not too far from the rescue and I have seen the care and love being put into it. It is definetely NOT a zoo and should not be treated as such. It is the one place where the animals are treated with respect and are given privacy. I hope that private ownership of "exotic" cats will come to an end soon because not all are fortunate to end up at facilities like Big Cat Rescue.

Big Cat Rescue is an amazing organization that changes lives of the animals that nobody cares about. They give them a second chance at life, to see the sunshine and feel grass under their paws (natural things that have been denied to many neglected cats). These animals are not stupid, they can feel pain and despair, and they deserve basic dignity. The before and after images of the cats is proof that quality of life is returned to them at the sanctuary. Big Cat Rescue is one example that there is hope to end expoitation of these beautiful animals.

This is probably Barbara Hoffmann who was a circus performer who forced big cats into circus lives. More about her here: http://911animalabuse.com/2011/11/09/fred-lulling/ Two weeks after the retired circus performer Barbara Hoffmann moved her 60-animal collection into the rural town on the state’s border with Louisiana, authorities seized them all and placed her and her business partner under arrest on charges of animal cruelty. People like this hate the success that Big Cat Rescue is having in putting an end to the cruel use of big cats as ego props.

I loved going to Big Cat Rescue and seeing that cats were being well cared for. It is a shame that people take in the cubs ant then don't want them anymore when they get too "big". What did they think??? that the cub would not grow up into a wild animal, not stay little Joey's cuddly pet??? I believe they should all be in the wild, not captivity, but as humans selfishness does the wrong thing, there is no other choice than to now keep that georgeous free creature in a safe place as they no longer would survive in the wild. People have seen to that. Big Cat Rescue gives these cats as much freedom as possible in their enclosures and cares for their needs and keeps them safe. Kuddos to you BCR

Go on a tour and they will explain where each animal was rescued from. The volunteers there do an awesome job. My son is a volunteer. He comes home with great stories to tell each time he is there. Please do not believe these 1 star reviews. Those are the people who don't want sanctuaries like this to save animals. I can't say enough good things about Big Cat Rescue! I went on one tour , then another, then another, and then signed up as a volunteer. When you take a tour, you see magnificent animals and learn the horrible stories of why they are there. My eyes have been opened, and I feel guilty for things I did in the past, like having my picture taken with a baby lion cub (now I know that they're taken from their mothers at the age of 8 weeks, and hauled from one place to another caged in a trailer. After 4 weeks of this, they can no longer be exhibited to the public in this setting.....what happens to them then? I have learned about canned hunts and it makes me sick. And as beautiful as white tigers are, they are inbred to get the white color, and most have birth defects as a result. What happens to those that are not perfect? It's disgraceful. Bobcats being raised & killed for a strip of belly fur to make coats makes me shudder. And people who think exotic cats would make a good pet.....I'm not going there. I am so proud to have become associated with Big Cat Rescue and their efforts to change laws and stop animals from being abused & neglected. I currently spend 4-6 hours a week there as a volunteer & "Advocat" and hope to become more involved in the near future. It feels so good to be able to see that my work means something. And I really like what they say their goal is: To educate people so that sanctuaries like BCR aren't needed, and they can go out of business. I am in awe of what they have accomplished.

I heard about Big Cat Rescue back when it was Wildlife on Easy Street, but never visited. I wish I had! What they do for these animals is wonderful. I went with friends last month, and we are excited about going again this weekend. We enjoy being so close to these majestic animals, and knowing that our visitation fee helps BCR care for them.

Big Cat Rescue is an internationally recognized and respected sanctuary for abused, neglected, unwanted and otherwise at-risk big cats. Located in Tampa, Florida, USA, the dedicated members of BCR go far beyond giving sanctuary -- they are also deeply committed to educating the public about the plight of big cats, and encourage all of us, through their educational materials, website, videos, and actism opportunities, to become involved in the ongoing struggle to improve the lives, safety, and future of big cats of all species.

As a longtime contributor and advocate via Big Cat Rescue's alerts and CatLaws topics, I can attest to the sanctuary's excellent longterm record in terms of rescuing and providing comfortable, appropriate life care for felines large and small, most of whom would have had uncertain or nightmarish fates if they had not had the good fortune to come to BCR. Big Cat Rescue is one of a handful of sanctuaries I personally know of which truly provide species-appropriate and safe (for the public and the cats) life care and enrichment for the cats, and excellent ongoing education for the public, as well as informative publications including advocacy issues the general public can become involved in. Big Cat Rescue is everything a sanctuary should be.

This will be lengthy so be prepared You won't be disappointed, I promise. The minute I found out about BCR I started making plans to visit. I wasn't sure what I'd see, but just being near those beatiful creatures was enough for me. My friend and I took the whole package, which included the tour, the opportuniy to go inside some of the lesser cat enclosures (befoe the government stepped in for the protection of both peaple and animals), went on the night tour (there was a 9 year old boy that made a tempting treat for one of the lionesses. He was totally safe!!!), stay overnight in a modified B&B. Hearing the morning sounds of lions and tigers as they wake for the day is something I will always hold dear in my heart. I was able to pet, yes PET, Rosie the Caracal, a cerval (name escapes me right now) and a bobcat named, I think, Little Feather. We heard facts than almost no one in our group knew, which gave me a whole knew perspective on privately owned exotic animals, roadside zoos and canned hunts )this makes me crazy!). During the enrichment period we all made toys for the cats. I never knew that cardboard TP and paper towel rolls, covered in spices and with chicks inside (humanely euthanized) could make a great toy for the lesser cats. Then, we took large cardboard produce box and did the samed for the greater cats. It was so much fun watching the cats rip into those things. We contined wth opperant training, where we were taught how to ask the animals to stand up on hind feet for a treat. This is how the staff is able to check every cat out for fleas, sores, illness, etc without going into the enclosure. We were, also, part of the feeding tour, where we were taught how to make nutritious and healthy meals, how much they eat (wow), and then we were able to feed some of the cats. I got to feed Shere Kahn (very well protected!!) He's a Bengal-Siberian mix, weighing in at a hefty 850 lbs! I remember that day like it was well, last week. My friends got tired of me asking if they had seen my pictures. I believe I came away from that experience a better person than when I went in. I've only been able to go back once more, but it is on my bucket list for 2013. Please donate whatever you can to give these animals a place to retire and get away from any form of mistreatment. All the cats are loved by all who see them up close, not in a boxed cage with only cement under their feet. BCR is filled to the brim with rescued cats, but in an emergency they find room. Carole Baskin is one of my heros, along with all the volunteers and staff that give their all.

Everyone note that the positive reviews of this organization were all made AT THE SAME TIME. There are over 30 reviews made october 17th and many were clumped together whereas the verfiied reviews from professionals were made on different dates. Someone is obviously writing fake reviews for bcr.

Several years ago while attending graduate school in Boston, I did a project on non-profits and discovered the Big Cat Rescue. I was amazed at the level of care they provided these big cats and the transparency they allowed to the public. Their mission and cause to educate the public while caring for these exotic cats got myself and my then boyfriend, now husband, Neil hooked! When I found out that they did wedding there we both said to each other "this is the place we will get married!" And sure enough that's what we did on October 19, 2012.
We are both from Massachusetts and so is our entire family. It should be noted that he and I never visited the sanctuary and simply followed them via Facebook and their internet site. After we got engaged earlier this year I immediately contacted their wedding coordinator Sherry who was the most helpful woman you could ever meet! Phone calls and e-mails on my part were constant and she was willing to help me every step of the way from inquiries on traffic from St. Petersburg to where to go for dinner afterwards. I could not have asked for a better person to help me. I knew this for sure when I arrived the day of and she literally was there to meet me with open arms and a hug.
Hearing Joseph the Lion making his cat-like calls in the background during the ceremony, seeing Max the Bobcat laying out by the lake while I walked down the isle and Shere Khan and China Doll hanging out opposite the ceremony site was by far the best part of this whole experience. My guest list included Lions, Tigers, Bobcats and more! Who else can say that!?
After the ceremony, we were allowed to take our time with pictures and moved along with a guided tour with Sherry. This place was so amazing even our musician wanted to tag along for the tour! Sherry brought us around and explained how the sanctuary functions and sustains itself, the awful treatment the cats had endured prior to coming there and educated all of us on how the sanctuary came to be.
Seeing these animals in person for the first time and how happy they were made every effort and sacrifice we made to make this day possible completely worth it. I am so glad that every cent we gave them will go directly to the cats. Next to marrying each other, having our wedding at BCR was the next best decision we made.
Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts for making this day so memorable and for educating us and our friends!

They have a gorgeous sanctuary, and their staff seem to be very dedicated to what they do. Also, they do a lot to educate the public about these beautiful creatures and help advocate for them. Personally, I think what they do is incredible, and I would love to go there and volunteer.

The Big Cat Rescue helps the big animals that are most feared by people but that are the most helpless when abandoned or abused. Since the Big Cat Rescue does rescue these beautiful animals they are given back their God given respect as the Big Cats of the jungle. These are beautiful Big Cats that are not dangerous if they are respected and if their freedom to roam is respected and the Big Cat Rescue does that. The Big Cat Rescue needs to be praised for all they do for all of our wild animals that everyone else is afraid to do or that others have abandoned and abused these animals. So I give them the praise they so richly deserve and say keep up the good work and because of your good work you will reap great great rewards in heaven for taking care of God's special creatures. Since I do not have money to donate to the cause and my health will not let me help with these beautiful creatures I will say thank you for all you do Big Cat Rescue!!

Big Cat Rescue is an amazing organization that gives exotic cats a chance to live happy lives. I believe in everything this organization does to help big cats living captive lives. When I visited the sanctuary, I was impressed with their enclosures because the cats had wonderful playscapes and plenty of room. All tours of the facility are guided by a volunteer who is knowledgeable about the cats and educates the guests about exotic pet laws in the United States. I was shocked to learn that in some places, an exotic cat only needs to be kept in a cage no bigger than a parking space, which is no way for anything or anyone to live. The tours are guided because they are NOT a zoo, they are an educational sanctuary. When I have visited zoos in the past, the animals are always pacing in their cages and whining because of the stress of the crowds of people. At Big Cat Rescue the cats were very relaxed. Most of them were sleeping or just lounging around. I also receive newsletters in my e-mail and I love to see that there is a team of people who work to create recreation for the cats, and also give them christmas trees and pumpkins. This gives them new things to sniff and explore. Most of the cats stories are heartbreaking, such as some being used as photo props or a lioness who was seized during a drug raid. Big Cat Rescue promotes stricter laws on exotic pet ownership and believes that wild animals belong IN THE WILD. They do everything they can to make these wild animals are happy and healthy for the rest of their lives. Visiting the sanctuary was a life changing experience for me because i never realized what a serious issue exotic cat ownership was in the United States. People need to be aware of this issue. I believe Big Cat Rescue makes a lasting impression on all of its visitors and gives a voice to big cats and all animals everywhere.

The animals in the care of Big Cat Rescue are forever safe from the nonsense that we humans can put on them. There is an honesty and purity of purpose at this facility that is both admirable and functional. When a group of people have agreed that the only thing that matters is the mission of caring for these cats, it's nothing but good karma and happy felines. There has been specific attention to details that make the cats natural life less stressful and as enjoyable as possible since they are in a sanctuary. I took my son to BCR for his 5th birthday. We fell in love! BCR is awesome. They rescue so many cats that other have either ignored, turned away, or planned to euthanize. They do their best to save them all and rehabilitate and release if possible. They don't always win the fight, but at least they try. And they always keep their sponsors and donors informed of what is going on and how we can help! My son can't wait to go back, just to see if the white tiger (Zabu) will try to "pee" on him again.

With some many exotic cats in private homes and collections or the people who use cubs to make money and profit some animals are disposed of, dropped of in locations or left alone with no care, attention or even food. It's the in thing now, own or be around exotics. But the animals are no longer needed or the owner can't provide the proper environment, care and food, Big Cat Rescue is there, from transport, the animal hospital for care and check ups to an enclosure that they would be safe in and then the volunteers to help with daily care. Wow, but they also educate the public, really and they are the first and foremost defender and protector of this exotics and they bring people like me into the program to help and spread the word. We need Big Cat Rescue until there is no longer a cat in need.

She frequently visits Big Cat Rescue and strongly supports their work. Big Cat Rescue is devoted to caring for mistreated, injured, retired or abandoned exotic cats. Another important part of their mission is educating the public to speak out against abuses of exotic cats - tiger cub petting events, roadside animal farms with inadequate care of their animals, ownership of exotics as pets, etc. They also rehabilitate (when possible) native cats, such as bobcats, who have been injured in the wild. I am touched by the stories of their resident cats, who came from backgrounds of exploitation and abuse, and now reside in a more natural habitat, with appropriate food and veterinary care. I have looked into many of the big cat rescue groups, but none compare to Big Cat Rescue in Florida. Everyone involved gives their heart and soul to this amazing oasis for abandoned, abused, so-called imperfect cats (which I say there are none). Even after working long shifts daily, they have such compassionate hearts that they will go, even in the middle of the night (when really, all they want to do is fall into bed and catch some sleep before the next long day); but they go, forgetting about their own needs/wants, and rescue these magnificent cats. If ANYONE deserves thanks, credit, funding, it is Big Cat Rescue...they are AMAZING people AND they are constantly creating new oases for the cats so they can live out their lives in peace and have fun running and playing (instead of being cooped up in cages, etc.). Big Cat Rescue doesn't just rescue big cats, which in itself is a huge undertaking and extremely important, but it educates the public so we can end the abuse big cats are subjected to in captivity. Big Cat Rescue is a little place in Tampa with a big mission--take care of the non-domestic felines that have been discarded. Tigers, lions, bobcats, cougars and other wild cats that people have mistakenly believed they could keep for pets are taken in to live out the rest of their natural lives in peace when things don't go well. After being born and bred in captivity, most can't be released into the wild. Bobcats that have been hit by cars or otherwise hurt are also taken in and cared for. They are fed, given top-notch medical care, and placed in "cat-a-tats" that are specially designed for them to thrive in while in captivity. As a fully functioning sanctuary, these angels do a thankless job, host guided tours, work on donations, and love every minute of it. I stay in touch with their Facebook postings and hope that I will one day get to visit in person.

I visited Big Cat Rescue in the fall of 2011. I was enormously impressed by how well they take care of the cats. They clearly care about the best interests of the animals & allowing them to live the most natural and healthy lives that they can. Big Cat Rescue covers all their administration costs by the tours they give of their facility. This is very important to me, as it tells me that my monthly donation to them goes ENTIRELY to the care of the cats; it doesn't go into marketing, or some ridiculously high CEO paycheck. The people at Big Cat Rescue clearly care deeply for their cats, and do everything they can to show that they are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of these animals.

When we visited BCR, we were overwhelmed by the sheer number of cats they have come to care for. That so many of these beautiful creatures have been abused, kept caged up in basements, mistreated in circuses and sideshows, and just discarded once people were done with them is astounding. BCR's work is vital to the survival of these animals and the education of the public.

I live in Michigan and I learned about Big Cat Rescue about 10-12 years ago. Their mission was so close to my heart I have watched them grow from afar. I read the stories, donated what I could, and told everyone I knew about the rescue. This year, in September, I had the chance to visit because of a business trip in Orlando. I flew into Tampa first to spend the day at BCR. Everyone was wonderful, from booking my visit beforehand to my arrival and tours. I consider myself pretty aware of whats going on with wildlife conservation but I was astounded by the amount of information I learned at BCR. Some of the laws or lack of regulation amazed even me, a longtime activist. I made the call right from BCR to thank my representative for supporting Big Cat regulations and have since been able to excite many of my friends and family about working to help big cats. Among my friends and family I was a lone activist. Now, between the pictures and stories I was able to bring back with me, I have coached others into becoming aware and acting to help. This is how people learn. The volunteers and specialists at Big Cat Rescue are exceptional in educating the public through stories as well as hard facts. Excellent organization.

One of the most important things that any sanctuary can do is to inform the public of the plight of the animals they serve and help to change laws to someday eliminate the need for those animals to be rescued. Big Cat Rescue does just that. They truly care about the animals they serve and about helping them in all ways. They're not out there to make money by exploiting animals as many so-called sanctuaries do. They are truly top-notch and dedicated in so many ways. They give the big cats a loving home where they can live out their days in peace, away from the cruel conditions that served as their early lives. They strive to make a positive difference every day.

After a long overdue tour of Big Cat Rescue I was left with a nagging thought. If Big Cat Rescue didn't do what they do, then what would be the fate of these magnificent creatures? I think we all know the answer to that. As I looked into the eyes of a black Leopard, and heard his story I could almost see the pain in those big beautiful eyes. But all I saw was the gentle calm of peace and contentment. To him this was the second best place to live out his days. The story doesn't change from cat to cat. They were all rescued from a miserable existence and given a second chance. Big Cat Rescue is NOT a zoo or a side show, but a facility where humans come second. It is very clear that the Cats come first. Evident by the fact that the tour route will only include Cats that are comfortable and not stressed out by the crowd. There are areas, large areas, that the public will never see because the residents are highly stressed out by humans so they are off limits, and rightly so. I am so proud to have this facility in my neighborhood and proud of the work they do on behalf of the voiceless. Our tour guide stated that BCR someday hopes to be out of business, because it is no longer needed, and that was, to me a reminder that until that happens, we all need to support this facility for the work they do and their mission. Therefore, I strongly recommend Big Cat rescue for an award.

Big Cat Rescue is an accredited sanctuary for big cats such as lions and tigers in Florida. Not only do they have a team of staff and volunteers who provide stellar care for big cats that have come from horrendous situations of abuse, but they also work tirelessly for better laws about big cats. Big Cat Rescue was instrumental in passing legislation prohibiting interstate transfer of big cats. They also work with states to pass laws regulating ownership of dangerous exotic animals such as big cats. Big Cat Rescue has seen first hand the cruel situations that these cats are kept in, such as being kept for life in transport crates, crammed into basements with no access to sunlight, having their teeth and claws pulled, etc. Big Cat Rescue has done more to raise awareness of the plight of big cats than any other organization in the country. When I donate to Big Cat Rescue, I am providing direct help not just to the cats at the sanctuary, but to all big cats in captivity across the country.

We went on a tour of the facility and got to meet a lot of interesting animals, some that smell like popcorn and I didn't even know existed (Bearcat!). My favorite though is the Lynx. I am constantly reading great things for this organization and how they are helping several breeds of big cats. Many of these cats they have rescued were most likely to die if it was not for this group. Cats that were kept in some cases many years in very unhealthy environments, abused and neglected and just all around mistreated for no good reason. This organization rescues these beautiful animals and cares for them until they healthy enough to live as nature intended. They have interfered with businesses using these animals in promotional events where the cats would have sat for hours in small cages in the heat. I have never had the opportunity to volunteer for this group as I do not believe it is in my area however if I had the chance to I feel as though I would find it very rewarding.

I learned about Big Cat Rescue this year, though they have been around since the late 90's. They do an excellent job rescuing exotic cats that would otherwise be abandoned, languish in squalid conditions, or be slaughterer for their hides. They actively campaign against the public owning exotic animals, and are always sending me important updates on laws and ways for the public to take action. I really appreciate their efforts to not only rescue the animals, but their striving to do away with laws that make rescues necessary in the first place. SO MANY Big Cats are in bad situations- and I see or hear stories- about horrible things- that happen- and the 1st thing that pops into my mind- is I wonder if 'they' BCR- can do anything about- this horrible situation. Now I even have my children and their friends learning about the Big Cats and Big Cat Rescue- and the educational VALUE- there is - involving ALL of it. And they are amazed- and can't get enough. So at night- now I have them all watching National Geographic and learning as much as they can and they know it is NOT okay to own exotic animals or to mistreat them or what to do- if they see one- that is mistreated or injured. An AMAZING sanctuary and place for healing and recovery and such hard work to all the workers and a nice home for the cats. Now this is what America can be proud of are places like these out here and that's what this country needs more of is love genorosity and caring. So Thanks Big Cat Rescue ! Big Cat Rescue is genuinely helping these beautiful creatures that they rescue. Some of these large cats had never even been outside and others were abused. There have been free roaming bobcats injured and suffering that they've helped to recover and, when possible, release back into the wild where they belong. Their dedication to the well-being of these innocent animals is inspiring to hundreds of thousands of people. They are truly educating the public (and even the government) about big cats and other exotic animals and why they should NOT be pets nor exploited to make a quick buck. I stumbled onto BCR's website years ago while looking up something else. I have been a supporter ever since. I had my eyes open to the magnitude of the problems regarding exotic pet ownership, and while BCR cares for wild cats, they advocate for all exotics to keep them in the wild where they belong. I have researched this charity to the fair-the-well, and can find nothing to object to. In fact, I applaude their ongoing effort to the cause, to make sure that exotic cats are never again used for man's selfish entertainment. This is the ONLY charity I have ever been involved with who's main goal is to someday shut down, because they are no longer needed. I believe so strongly in this sanctuary, that I spend a great deal of time talking about it to others in my community, and making them know where they currently are not.

Wow! We took a tour today at The Big Cat Rescue in Tampa. There were so many tours, that the founder was our tour guide. We lucked out and got on an adult only tour. There were at least 5 tours of 17 - 20 people in each tour. BCR is a hidden little treasure right in our own back yard. It is not like a zoo, where you just show up and see the animals. You can only go by appointment. I saw a FB special for $19 per person for the holiday. Normal price is $29 per person. It was so easy to get too, right off the Veterans Highway and Gunn Highway. Most of the time when big cats are kept as "pets", their fate is often the wrong end of a gun when they get loose or attack their owner. Even if a big cat is lucky enough to be rescued from these abusive and cruel conditions, there is no place for them to go. BCR gives them the best chance of a high quality life with the housing, medical care, diet, and mental stimulation they deserve. Yes, being wild would be better but these cats lost that option the moment someone decided to use them for financial gain and macho stupidity. Exotics should never be pets. At least at BCR, they will die with dignity and love. All states should be lucky enough to have a BCR facility!

BCR received three bobcat kittens from Alabama under a license to exhibit not a rehab license, then told the public they were to rehabbed. Now fast forward a few months later and one by one they are dying off. She writes on her BCR news letter that the first one died of Cardiomyopathy, the second from a ruptured duodenum, and the third was finally diagnosed (by a vet other than her regular one) of Panleukopenia. Pan is feline parvo, and the first two disorder of the deceased cats can be found as a complication of the disease. It was also posted on her wall that the kittens got this from being with puppies. Make no mistake, canine parvo cannot be transferred to cats and Pan cannot be transferred to dogs, besides the point that the incubation period for Pan is 3-9 DAYS not months. She then claims it is not their practice to vaccinate rehab cats for fear the vaccine would shed when in fact, exotic felidae are vaccinated with killed vaccines and she had just vaccinated a bob cat and released it a bit prior to it as well as microchipped.

It is a testament to our success in ending the abuse and trade in big cats that our opponents use these forums to post lies about us. Come visit to see for yourself, or read the reviews from people who oppose using big cats as pets, props and for their parts and you will see why we hold the highest credentials of any animal sanctuary.

The original post is NOT a lie, Carole Lewis Baskin did indeed purchase most of the animals at that facility, to the tune of yes over $90K. Carole Lewis Baskin cannot hide the paper trail, the truth is there in black & white, and alot of info is available on the net, for those who have concerns enough to do their own research, and not believe the lies, upon lies, upon lies that Big Cat Rescue perpetuates in order to deceive & defraud the public.

Big Cat Rescue has always been open and honest about our humble beginnings and it is posted on our website here: http://bigcatrescue.org/about/our-evolution, on a huge sign in our tour waiting area and is shared on our guided tours. Comments like this one are a great illustration of how successful Big Cat Rescue has been in ending the breeding, trade and exploitation of big cats. The bad guys hate us and post their lies on our review sites because that is the only way they can get any attention. Their abuse of wild cats does not resonate with the public so the only recourse they have are hateful and untrue posts such as this one and the one she obviously posted before.

Incredibly grateful to have an organization like this helping otherwise helpless animals. Please visit, donate or, at minimum, sign petitions supporting state-level laws to ban ownership of wildlife. The cats you see here have all got sad tales of being abandoned and deserve to have as good a quality life as Big Cats Rescue can provide. They are compassionate in caring for the animals and in educating us on why Big Cats SHOULD NOT be pets.

Well I am currently writing a paper on 501(c)3 organizations/charities for one of my government classes and for this paper "Big Cat Rescue" is one of the two charitable organizations I am writing about on how legit the organizations are as well as finding where donations go and the truth/lies about the organizations to find out whether it would be a good organization to donate money to or to support but I have found both good and bad about "Big Cat Rescue" but after much research I do have one question which is....Why is "Big Cat Rescue" refusing to be evaluated by the BBB standard for charity accountability? This is makes it hard for me to believe all the good things about the organization if there is nothing to hide then why not allow it? If I can get a response it would be greatly appreciated. if references are wanted I can give them.

We did meet all 20 requirements for the BBB Wise Giving Seal for a few years, 2005 to 2008. That was before our application finally made its way through the process to be rated by Charity Navigator, the most commonly referred to source for charity information. In 2008 BBB Wise Giving advised us that they felt we met 19 but not all 20 requirements to display the seal. Of the more than one million nonprofit organizations in the nation, only 328 meet all 20 requirements to qualify for the seal. It is a great credential. We were proud to display the seal when we qualified. The BBB had dinged us for exposing 3 false complaints, made by aliases of our competitors. There was nothing in their guidelines preventing this, so the BBB tried to pigeon hole their objection to us doing that by saying we didn't meet one of their standards any more. It wasn't fair and they charge 1,000 per year for the seal which we just don't need. Meantime, in that same year Charity Navigator, which had a long backlog of nonprofits waiting to be evaluated, finally rated Big Cat Rescue. Since we were not going to qualify for the BBB seal and we were at that point being rated by Charity Navigator, I chose not to apply to BBB going forward. Our IRS 990’s and Audited Financial Statements appear on Charity Navigator, Guidestar, and on our own website.

Big Cat Rescue continues to exceed in every way. Their sanctuary rates as one of the top in the country because each and every staff member/volunteer is dedicated to the cats. Walking thru the sanctuary one gets a feeling of contented, well cared for cats. They aren't in cages, but instead large enclosures which are done as closely to their natural habitats as possible. Various enrichment "toys" are included daily to keep the animals occupied and help them exercise as well. My only regret or "complaint" is that we don't live close enough for both my husband and I to volunteer!!

Big Cat Rescue is a fabulous sanctuary for exotic big (and little) wild cats that have either been abused, abandoned or are retired from a circus. They have saved hundreds of these cats who enjoy their years at a sanctuary that not only gives excellent care, but lots of love personally to each animal. A high light of our visits to the west coast of Florida is always a stop to tour BCR. I always walk away in awe over how clean the facility is, how wonderful all the animals look and what an excellent staff, both paid and volunteer they have. They also do their best to rehab the bobcats that they rescue - often who have been hit by cars.

As a volunteer at Big Cat Rescue, not only do we provide excellent care for the cats (by cleaning their enclosures every day, feeding them the best food money can buy, providing them with multiple types of enrichment, and operant conditioning, etc), but a major part of our mission is also to "end the trade in exotic cats". As a tour guide, we educate the public every day on the dangers of wild cats being owned by private hands, as well as describe the conditions that many of our cats were rescued from. Big Cat Rescue is not a zoo; we do not tell you just about the species and facts. Many of our cats came from shut-down facilities, relinquished from owners who could not care for them anymore or simply did not want them anymore, or those who aged-out of circuses and could not perform anymore. Part of our mission is to discuss this with our tour guests, and encourage them to become "advocats" (to contact their legislators, and follow campaigns such as ending private breeding of tigers, and banning traveling circuses with animals). The welfare of the cats at Big Cat Rescue is WHY we all volunteer or work for BCR. Not only do we have a huge desire to make the lives of the cats in our care the best they can be, but we also strive to make the lives of other cats we may never know the best they can be as well. All of the volunteers and staff at BCR have pure hearts of gold.

Went on tour in January 2012. FUN! Amazing to see these big cats up close! Tourguide was very knowledgable and all the volunteers were very friendly. Cute giftshop allowed you to purchase shirts, sweatshirts, etc, and all proceeds go towards taking care of the cats. All the cats are rescued - no breeding program. Encourages public to enjoy the cats in their natural habitat and not to adopt and try to raise these beautiful animals as pets! Guide tells stories about each cat seen. Will go again and would recommend this to anyone that is in the Tampa area! Family friendly and if can walk in pebble/rock paths, should be easy walk for older people as well.

I have been volunteering at Big Cat Rescue for almost 3 years now. I enjoy seeing the cats in their spacious enclosures with trees and grass, (instead of hard, cold cement, like some other places do) and dens they can go in when they want to, (rather than when someone is making them, like some other places do). I enjoy being up close and personal with the cats, while being safely on the outside of their enclosures! The cats do get to know the volunteers, and some of the tigers chuff to me, and one of the cougars meows or purrs as I come by! Once I was painting a leopard enclosure next to a lion's enclosure, and he roared and I could feel the vibrations in my chest, it was awesome! Some of the cats were rescued from fur farms, some are retired from circuses or from breeders that were shut down, and some believe it or not were people's pets! Volunteers really do make a difference at BCR, as it is run alsomost exclusively by volunteers! You can volunteer as a Partner, and give educational tours and help in the gift shop, or a Keeper, and feed and clean up after the cats and help build and maintain enclosures, or an Advocat, and help advocate for better laws and regulations to make conditions better for wild cat species in the US and worldwide. They also support the Snow Leopard Trust, a wonderful organization that is helping to save Snow Leopards in the wild!

I love cats of all kinds and wanted to see if the sanctuary was really as good for these beautiful endangered animals as it appeared on their website. I was very pleased with what I saw and heard there. I could tell the cats were happy and well cared for, and the tour was quite educational. Big Cat Rescue provides two vital services by caring for individuals of a variety of endangered species and by educating the public about the many issues affecting their chances of survival.

There are so many animal "charities" and shows and even zoos that exploit animals. Big Cat Rescue really cares about the animals in their care. I've taken the tour and, while they were concerned about the welfare of all of us on the tour and made sure we had sun screen, insect repellant and water, they were even more concerned about the cats. And not just the cats at Big Cat Rescue, but exotic cats in captivity everywhere. They've saved big cats that were defanged and declawed by thoughtless owners who should have been defanged, declawed and de-you- know-whated. They've rescued injured cats in the wild, nursed them back to health and, when possible, released them back to the wild. They've made some powerful enemies, who lie about them to try to destroy them and post those lies here. BCR is a great non-profit and should be recognized as such, not criticized by those who are afraid that BCR will damage their ill-gotten income.

Don't believe the slander! I have visited BCR many times over the years and my organization (tamparollerderby.com) has had one fundraiser for BCR and hopes to have more. I have done my due diligence and research, and can confidently say that BCR is a good organization that does good work. Having taken many tours, I can clearly see that the animals are very well taken care of, that the staff care very much about them, and that overall it is run very well and efficiently. They make it QUITE clear that the animals' welfare come first in everything. Both my dentist and my cat's vet have worked with BCR. These professionals wouldn't associate with an org unless they believed in its mission. Being vocal critics of the abuses that big cats suffer at the hands of others, they have been the unfortunate victims of some disgruntled owners. Don't believe it. Go and see for yourself. Over a dozens cats have died this year alone because of the care or lack of, that they recieve there.
BCR is still accepting donations on 3 baby bobcats that THEY killed, due to their ineptness in animal husbandry.
BCR just killed another bobcat under anesthesia this week!
Their financial records are often falsified, along with everything else they are putting out to the public.
This place is a SCAMTUARY!!!

As you can see, "miss lovelace" was an account set up for the sole purpose of trying to bring down our overall ratings with a one star report. Most of these aliases end up being traced back to Joe Exotic Schreibvogel who hides behind a number of aliases that are listed at TigerCubAbuse.com This is part of an ongoing slander campaign by people who want to selfishly own exotic cats as pets and/or use them to make money. They have no arguments that resonate with the public to defend their selfishness and greed, so their only defense is to attack us with absolute nonsense and annoy our supporters and waste our time. The good news is that they would not be doing this if it were not for the fact that our efforts to change the laws and educate the public were working. 8 more states have implemented bans on private ownership in the last few years and the trend is clearly in our favor. There is no ongoing investigation of BCR by USDA or FWC or any other agency to our knowledge. Recently one of these animal abusers, Joe "Exotic" Schreibvogel, under his name and his many aliases found at TigerCubAbuse.com filed a litany of ridiculous complaints to USDA, Florida Wildlife Commission, the Environmental Protection Agency, the State of Florida, the Sheriff's department and several others. All of them were found to be without merit, with one exception being that the USDA had us raise one barrier wall a few inches which we did within 24 hours. We were in the process of fixing it before the inspector even arrived. All of our subsequent inspections have been perfect. We haven't issued press releases regarding the ridiculous allegations made by Joe and crew because they can make stuff up faster than we could possibly respond. That is part of their strategy in that the more time of ours they waste on this sort of thing, the less time we have to spend on changing the laws so that dangerous animals don't end up in the hands of people like them. You might find the BBC's article last week about Louis Theroux's show Misfits to be a humorous, if not so sad for the animals. He observed just how crazy Joe "Exotic" and his ilk are saying, "In a helpful contribution to the show’s pre-publicity, an Ohio zookeeper lately let his menagerie loose before killing himself. For once the ostensible subjects of Theroux's researches could not answer his keynote question – how does it feel to be banged up? It was left to their jailers to do the talking. As usual Louis was unable to persuade them to see reason. One zookeeper was bringing up a bear and tiger together, as if trying to rewrite The Jungle Book. Another owned 156 tigers. Various of them are breeding with lions to spawn a new super-race of feline labradoodle. The zookeeper playing God was called Joe Exotic. Possibly not a family name." I am a fan of BCR from afar, I have only seen pictures and videos of the cats residing there. I have been a student of feline behavior and body language for a long time. One thing is certain, cats don't lie! The wild cat residents at BCR display behavior that clearly denotes a sense of comfort and contentment, that is something no human can fake. If a big cat is unhappy, they demonstrate with restlessness and signs of depression. BCR's cats are happy and stimulated. So, while accusations of lies continue, one only need look at the cats themselves, they speak the truth. Facilities such as BCR are important, when a wild animal is surrendered by an unwise owner, they literally have no place to go. Domestic pets have a chance if given to a shelter, but there is no adoption process for the wild. They cannot be released back into their natural habitats, they would have to have been born there and taught how to live in the wild by a wild mother, wildlife rescue sanctuaries are the only option. BCR provides a rich environment for these animals, an extremely necessary service.

The sanctuary also tries to educate the public on the truth about handling and owning exotic cats. The graduates of the intern program become more balanced keepers in many of the major zoos around the US and the world. They are aiming for the day that they will be put out of business without the need to house these beautiful animals. In the meantime they rescue those that they can, rehabilitate wild cats and return to their habitat and try to get public ownership banned- you are one of the few countries in the world that allows this crazy practice.

I am thankful that the internet lets us experience different places worldwide. I have seen many posts both about and from Big Cat Rescue in Florida. More often than not I see not only Carole the owner, Jeff Kremer, and many of their workers constantly criticizing other sanctuaries. I've also seen them directing their followers and fans to attack in a mob like fashion any entity that has any dealings with other sanctuaries or zoos. I find this very unprofessional and juvenile on their part. One could expect this sort of behavior from grade school aged children, but from the business owner and her staff themselves? It's inexcusable. Because of the extreme and constant belittling this corporation does on a daily basis of other honest upstanding facilities I will never donate nor spend one dollar to visit this place. I just feel so sorry for the animals that are stuck there and left in their care. I've seen pictures of some and they seemed to be in very poor shape to say the least. Very bad example of professionalism which means it is non-existant.

Big cat rescue owned by Carol Baskins goes after many other facilities and falsely accuse them of acts of animal abuse that she herself does. She has had 118 cats died (that we know of) at her facility and it has been proven that she has taken the dead to a taxidermist to be skinned. She lies about how they died (one tiger was strangled to death during transport but she said that it died from cancer). She is still collecting money for several of the animals that are now dead. She is also collecting money for animals that she is not getting. I have seen picture of skinny, malnourished cats living in tiny, rusty, weakly made cages that are never cleaned out (except for what the poop stick can reach). She collects millions of dollars for the cats but then spend it on things such as big diners and parties. She then attacks other facilities for taking in donations that are actually used for their animals and not for their own selfish wants. I hope that people will start seeing the light and stop supporting her. I also hope that she is shut down and her animals are sent to a better facility, or someone more qualified takes over there after she is thrown in jail.

I've been to Big Cat Rescue 3 times now, and each time is more terrific than the one before. This wonderful organization rescues big cats from roadside zoos, private owners and abusive situations, and provides a natural, roomy habitat, veterinarian care, and a "forever home" for this mistreated animals. BCR campaigns vigorously against the mistreatment of cats, breeding for zoos, traveling "road shows" where cubs are mishandled, etc. The work they do is admirable, and the facility top notch. The tours, led by volunteers, teach visitors not just about the history of each of the individual cats there, but about how they are mistreated, how they should be in the wild, and what we can do to help preserve the natural habitat of these great cats. They also rehab local Florida bobcats that have been hit by cars, and whenever possible release them BACK into the wild where they belong. They offer different tours, including shorter ones on Saturday mornings for younger kids. I highly recommend Big Cat Rescue - I've been 3 times and plan to keep visiting!

I have been to BCR on several occasions, and am always impressed with the shady green spaces the cats have to live in. The lake the cats share is awesome - the videos of the tigers swimming makes me smile every time.

The fact that the founder started all this by buying ALL of the cats from a furrier, with the furrier agreeing to go out of business, says a lot for BCR's beginnings. That was quite a large personal expense, and the investment has paid off nicely for all of the lions & tigers & bearcats (oh my!) who are now able to live out their lives in comfort and security.

It is obvious that the welfare of the cats is the most important thing to the wonderful folks at Big Cat Rescue. The volunteers are friendly and knowledgeable, and visitors can get pretty close to the enclosures.

I love big cat rescue. I first heard about it about a year ago, and I have been following them on Facebook ever since. I first went to Big Cat Rescue a few weeks ago for my 15th birthday present. I was in heaven. Although I felt bad that the cats had been through so many terrible events to get there, and that they couldn't be in the wild, I was so happy to see them happy in their environments. Although it was at least 96° outside, I didn't care because I was totally in my happy, peaceful place among the cats. Big Cat Rescue is an amazing sanctuary and I cannot wait to go back and visit, intern or volunteer. I will be signing up for an internship as soon as I possibly can, especially because I start college in a few months. The work that Big Cat Rescue does for the animals there, as well as for other animals that need help is inspirational. I have wanted to work with Big Cats since I was 4 years old, but now that I know more about the issues that Big Cat Rescue has brought to light, I know that I truly want to help with the advoCATcy of these animals. Learning how zoos really work and about the pay-to-play schemes truly turns my stomach at how cruel people can be. But seeing the interns, staff, and volunteers at Big Cat Rescue show the same love and respect to the big cats as they would a sweet domesticated cat, but still showing them the respect of being a wild animal, tells me that this is where I belong when I am older. Big Cat Rescue is the perfect place to visit for any true animal lover, and it is the best place in the world for these animals!

In five years of living in Tampa we brought many of our visitors to see the wonderful work Big Cat Rescue is doing. Now that we live in Illinois I can only follow them on Facebook. I have followed the rehab of Skip the Bobcat since the day he was found injured in 2010. There are not enough good words to say for this organization.

Big cats would not have a future without BCR. They are heroes for big cats and I would do anything to help them out. They are oftentimes the last resort for big cats that have nowhere else to go. I thank God every day that they exist.

I've been around Big Cat Rescue for some time now and have seen them grow and learn from everything they do. They always strive to make the facility safer, convenient and more hospitable to the residents. The education they provide visitors and amazing views of relaxed well cared for cats is beyond those I've ever seen. The life enrichment, toys, seasonal specialty treats, privacy and adoring staff make this a haven for so many of these animals that have had a rough journey in arriving here. Big Cat Rescues demand to have written proof that previous owners will not take another as a pet, fur farm animal or sideshow stealer, shows their commitment to the cause of keeping these animals in their natural habitat. I feel privileged to be able to help with these visionaries that help everyone understand that these animals are every bit as deserving as we are.

This place is A TRUE sanctuary. There is no breeding allowed. The tours are guided so the animals are not harrassed & the public is kept safe. Since first learning of them many years ago I have visited quite a few times. I also let as many people as possible know about their great work. They are really focused on making changes to laws & informing the public of the horrible plights of animals kept as pets & performers. Big Cat Rescue is the last chance place for many big cats. Unfortunately they cannot take every one & turn away hundreds of animals a year because they do not have the room for them. Why is it that hundreds of big cats NEED a place every year? Because the should NOT be kept as pets or for photo shoots. The cats at BCR have nice large enclosures. They have ground & plants & trees. They have dens & the tigers have pools. One set of tigers even has access to a lake. If they can't be free then at least they have peace & safety here. Hopefully their stories(as told by the tourguides & available to read online) will change you. If you have a chance to visit-please do so. It will forever chance your thought process about big/wild cats in general. Be a voice for the cats. Donate if you can. They have a great website & free screensaver downloads. Alot of good educational things for adults & kids. They ARE making a difference in the lives of these cats & the future laws concerning animals.

I have been visiting and donating to Big Cat rescue for over 10 years. This is a wonderful and beautiful sactuary. They really try to educate the public during their tours. Another nice thing ia their enclosures are kept as natural as possible...letting the natural grasses & trees there so the cats can have something other than a concrete cage like the zoos have. Wonderful, caring and hardworking organization. visit next time you are in the Tampa area. You will not be disappointed.

As a former volunteer I would like to tell everyone to PLEASE do your research before you visit BCR. It is sad to say that I found out the "script" I was given to do tours is lie after lie. After many people told me I was lying I did my own research and found out I was infact lying to all of the tours. When brought to the attention of Carole Baskin (Lewis at the time) she shrugged it off, had more lies to tell. Over 94,000 of her own money went into buying these animals. They were NOT rescued, they were bought at PETS! Now she wants everyone to feed her PETS, claiming they were abused to get your hard earned money. Sad, because there are true rescues who do rescue and rehomes that could use the money, however Carole is workng hard to get them all closed down.

This post is a lie. I just don't know if it was really posted by Sherry Cox DeWald of Tampa, Fl who lists among her facebook friends Michael Sandlin the owner of Tony the tiger who he has kept in the middle of a 24 hour truck stop as a business gimmick for more than a decade, Felicia Frisco, a circus performer who promotes keeping tigers as pets, Sue Pearce who may hold the record for the highest number of repeat violations cited by USDA at a whopping 12 counts in June of 2011 and Barbara Hoffman who had all of her big cats confiscated due to the horrific conditions in which she kept them for her circus act. I say that I am not sure Sherry DeWald posted this because Joe Schriebvogel has been known to use more than a dozen aliases in order to slander Big Cat Rescue and may have used part of her email address above as a user name for this account. I LOVE big cats. I came upon BCR on a visit to FL.in 2007 (Im from NH)...I set up a visit there on my last day, and I was extremely excited. There was unfortunately a bad storm, and the walk thru tour of the facility had to be canceled. .I was deviated...they offered to refund my money and I refused. I told them I was there to support the Cats an that I didnt want my money back....I walked back to the car w/tears in my eyes...although I was happy to have been there an at least was able to contribute in person, and bring stuff home from their gift shop,..I was crushed knowing that I had to get in my car that day, and drive 1500 mi away...knowing it would be quite sometime before I got that opportunity again. (and I did cry,....most of the way home...) Then in 2009 I got my chance again ! this time, my visists to BCR were scheduled first to make sure I didnt get a rain date again. I was able to meet the wonderful staff again, and well........once guided thru the gate I felt like I was walking on clouds.....to be surrounded by such beautiful animals. ........they werent all easy to see, because their enclosures are so large, and some were sleeping in dens, or hiding in really tall grass, or behind large rocks...........but they ALL seemed so HAPPY. and relaxed...(well except for TJ - he was very focused on the golf cart and was stocking it as it rode by in the distance, and feeling the vibration on the ground of him when he ran by his enclosure and dropped to start stalking was just AMAZING. (apparently its one of his fav things to do there..) but he too seemed very HAPPY. I was also able to witness Zabu the White tiger chasing Cameron. its was so amazing, Cameron is twice if not three times her size and she was just chasing him and showing him who wore the stripes that day I think, and It was truly amazing. The greatest part I feel was so great for the Big Cats, at BCR is the way their enclosures are set up, and the way BCR conducts its tours thru its facilities,....... if the cats WANT to be seen, then you will see them. If they DONT want to be seen, then you wont...(not so great for the photo freak like myself) but its FANTASTIC for the cats.... they have the option of whether or not they want any visitors so to speak...some dont seem to care, as matter fact some seem happy to see and watch whats going on, but there are other elusive not so sociable ones (such as the beloved Freckles) she didnt seem to favor the "attention" being on her and she briefly made an appearance that day I was there, and then remained hidden in her den, where she was COMFORTABLE...... BCR is really a Heaven on Earth for these Cats, ......... they have large pools of water,........ large enclosures w/ lots of natural habitat, these CATS have the option of PRIVACY........ if they choose...and who doesnt need that sometimes? =)........... hats off to you BCR.......... I really do Love you, and ALL YOU do for these BIG BEAUTIFUL CATS..............

We made a special effort to drive 3 hrs from Daytona Beach, FL where we were vacationing to take the 10am tour on Saturday August 13th. It was well worth the 6 hr round trip. The guide was knowledgeable, the animals were, for the most part, visible and close to the public. There were a couple of shy ones who would not come out, but the rest made up for it. The highlight was the tiger that came and lay in his pool right by the fence and spoke to us. It was extremely hot that day, and water is a must to bring along. The photos I took came out great too. Would love to be able to help this group out more as they help the cats that nobody else wants or can help. Great organization doing an even greater job.

Went on a private tour on 3/6/11. Had a wonderful 2 hour walking tour. The cats were all beautiful and the tour guide was very helpful and knowledgeable. I was amazed that the facilites that included pools, multiple shelters for each cat and toys, toys, toys! There was more than adequate shade and places for the cats to be sheltered from the weather. I was very impressed all around.

I have been to BCR many times and enjoy it greatly. I find this place to be a breathe of fresh air. I love that the main focus of the sanctuary is the animals. How many places could honestly say that? They go out of the way to save cats that are in need. Just check their facebook page, countless times that they have saved animals in need, even a bobcat who was killed by a car and they gave him a proper burial. I find BCR to be one of the best educators in animal rights and respect. Go check them out, it'll completely change your thoughts and ideas on animal rights.

Upon first checking into this facility (I was planning to volunteer) I was impressed with the facilities etc., However; I was totally put off by one large thing. I went to their 911 animal abuse site that they have up to let people know about Sanctuaries/Exotic owners who are breaking laws and mistreating their cats. I found many discrepencies on this site. One of the largest ones, was about Wild Bill's Sanctuary. There was a large post about how they had 5 tigers and 1 lion removed for lack of food (starving) and that they now had a white tiger...the story under the captions was about a place in florida. Bill's upon further investigation is in Oklahoma not florida and the names of the owners not correct etc. not to mention the poor establishment they are talking about has never had 5 tigers in the entirety of its existence. This brought to light BCR's desire to run a smear campaign against them it actually makes me question the validity of the stories on their site. I would never volunteer there. Liars.....you cant trust them.

This person is not a visitor to the sanctuary, but rather appears to be just another animal abuser who supports the trade in tigers as pets. More than likely it is just another alias for the worst abusers that we are currently suing in federal court. GNP will not check IP addresses to remove these fake posters and their reviews, so that is why it really helps us to have people who have been here and know the good work we do to post their reviews.

It is obvious that with 54 five star reviews that Big Cat Rescue is doing good work. The two here who claim to be different people, Joe and Sebastian, sound like they must be involved in the industry of breeding, or pimping out wild animals for their own gain or ego. Big Cat Rescue must be doing a pretty good job of shutting these abusers down, or they wouldn't be bothering with trying to trash them here.

Big cat rescue has lied about where her cats are coming from where most of the cats in need of recue are those purchased for her own pleasure and frauding the piblics money..(this matter has been researched) they are presently being investigated by the USDA. There has been over 112 mysterious deaths of once healthy cats. she also has posted a pic on the web of three of her employees sittng on the back of a golf cart smiling holding 3 dead white bunnies poking fun at the report she was feedng these rabbit to her bobcats to rehab them back in the wild (all dead now) which later you tube videos were published wth lions and other cats munching on the rabbits...I challenge all of you to do their own research on this facility. the cats are kept in small rusted cages put tugether with hog rings wiith barely enough room to yurn around. no exersie, no attenton..no enrichment what so ever. It angers me that a place can operate ths way however with them being non prift they are eempt from most investigatve offices. please research your sanctuaries and exotic refuges you donate to..a website can fool the reality severely. i am not a recue just part of the general public and one place i was very iimpressed with was GW Exotics... their place is very legit and an awesome place for any Bg Cat and they are eager to answer your questions and educate you in any way they can. they are located in oklahoma. I found a coouple other places that were acceptable. YOU JUST NEED TO RESEARCH AND VISIT ANYWHERE YOU DECIDE TO SUPPORT>>>>WITH THE INTERNET I CAN PRODUCE AN ISLAND THAT S MADE OF GOLD.....but its just a computer creation like BCR....this is not hear say the proof is avalable and alot of it is public nformaton like usda to find out if a certain cat was bought or rescued....the stores on these cats on her webste out of her own mouth to the usda records..T WILL MAKE YOU ANGRY AND SAD AT THE SAME TIME....HOPEFULLY LIIKE ME DONT SUPPORT HER CRUELTY AND SCAM.

They do Gods' work here!

The cats are all well cared for, healthy, happy - allowed to be big cats and follow their natural instincts.

I saw cats rescued from horrific pasts - declawed, defanged(!), having been kept in unimaginably small cages - and here, they have grass and trees to climb, and water to play in, with toys to keep them from being bored.

It is sad that they cannot be free where they belong in the wild, but I am so glad that BCR is there to do what must be done for these poor creatures in need of help.

Big Cat Rescue {BCR} is this country’s largest accredited sanctuary for abused and abandoned big cats. They strive to provide the best ‘forever home’ for these cats through their dedication to, their love for, & respect of these magnificent cats. With a broader mission, to not only educate the public about wild & captive cats, but to advocate for the abused cats. As a quarterly donor to support accomplishment of their efforts, I can attest to their unique ways of relating to their donors from not only a corporate level…but a ‘personal’ one. They involve their supporters in innovative ways, such as providing streaming webcams of injured wild cats they’ve rescued, or abused & neglected cats they’ve accepted from ‘cat owners’. One example of how BCR celebrates their donors is through the creation of personalized ceramic cat tiles placed throughout the sanctuary to honor major or continuing contributors. The donation receipts provided by the sanctuary are not mere form letters, but personalized emails and appreciation cards. I donate quarterly to national & global animal charities, such as World Wildlife Fund, International Fund for Animal Welfare, Defender of Wildlife, Humane Society of the US, etc. None of these well known, five star charities take such effort to express appreciation to their donors. BCR is large enough to make a genuine difference in the world of abused & abandoned big cats, yet be mindful that much of their success is because of their donors. I so believe and support the efforts of BCR, that in addition to three other animal charities, I’ve named them to receive a percentage bequest of my estate. Big Cat Rescue's dedication to the cats and their appreciation of their donors…..unequalled.

My personal experience with The Big Cat Rescue, in Tampa, Florida is the way they share special moments of each cat on websites. I'm unable to travel because of a special needs child. I have an 9 year old who has choosen a career in zoology to save Big Cats, like Cam and Zabu. It is amazing to see each cat sleeping, playing, to hear the different sounds they make, and to even see the grumpy ones. Big Cat and their volunteers go above and beyond sharing information and education on their website, facebook, and YouTube. You get a fuzzy warm feeling but yet still realize these are wild animals not pets. Our family gets to share laughs while the big cats celebrate every Holiday with gifts from local stores and presents from the volunteers, themselves. You actually watch a BIG CAT turn into a 'Lil Kitten. Help is needed to keep these animals safe, feed, and ereceive medical care. Every man, woman, and child can use the knowledge that is shared from Big Cat Rescue. They don't have big celeberties attaching their name to this organization to help raise funds. They have friends, family, volunteers, and just regular everyday people like you and me.

I have been watching the Bobcat Skip that they saved and are trying to recoup to release is outstanding. If we ask a question they give us so much informative information. As far as I know everyone that works there does it wtihout pay. They just volunteer because they love animals so much.
BCR has closed down so many bad places and resecued so many animals. They have taken care of them for years. Just with donations and I think some of their own money.

Big Cat Rescue is a wonderful addition to not only the human portion of society (by advocating responsible treatment of cats (both wild and domestic), but also the animal kingdom. They speak up for the abused, neglected, injured, captured, and improperly bred animals (and not even just cats... they have other animals as well). There is no voice in the animal world, at least not one we understand, and that is where the Big Cat Rescue comes into play. The way they love and admire the animals they take in is so wonderfully inspiring. I have never personally been to the Big Cat Rescue (as I live in the Midwest and not Florida) but just watching their videos and seeing all the things that they do for these animals touches a special place in my heart.

Sometimes the things that places like Big Cat Rescue do, go unnoticed. Which is such a shame, because we all at one point in our lives have fallen in love with a lion, tiger, cheetah, or leopard... Then when you do hear about Big Cat Rescue (or similar places) you find you fall in love with cats you've never heard of or seen. You develop a deeper appreciation for these cats, and a deeper awareness of how horrible some people in this world are.

I absolutely love BCR and I think that what they are doing is tremendously wonderful and they deserve all the respect in the world. They deserve anything and everything that could enrich these gorgeous animals lives, as well as help keep them going so that they can continue to provide homes for unwanted, abused, and abandoned wild cats.

It gives you a feeling of wanting to help them & the big cats. The amimas are gorgous and you are as close to them as you can possibly get.
It is obvious they really care about their place and the cats they take care of.

Big Cat Rescue has been doing such great advocacy work and deeds to society by raising awareness of the issues they help resolve every day. They provide anyone access to tons of real-life stories about 'big cats' and show the day-to-day activities and serious work it takes to maintain a non-profit group as successful as theirs. Never in my life have I felt so strongly about a particular group as I do theirs. I particularly enjoy their 'Youtube' videos and stories depicting different activities and 'struggles' to rescue when and where they can.

I am currently studying to become a veterinarian and had it not been for the inspiring stories and videos and documentaries coming from BCR, I don't think I'd ever have come to that vital decision in my own life.

I commend Big Cat Rescue for all their effort, blood, sweat, tears, and time, on creating, holding, and continuing such a grassroots organization for this long and doing it SO well.

Big Cat Rescue is a sanctuary in every sense of the word. I have been to this lovely place twice now and both visits were a delight. The tour guides are very kind and always willing to answer any question. Those who had trouble walking received a ride on the cart so they could still experience the tour and water was also provided. The volunteers seem to have just as much heart and the other workers there and the cats always seem happy. It is rare to see big cats look so joyous and comfortable like that without being in the wild. The spaces for the animals are way more acceptable then at some other locations and the tour is informative and delightful. I believe Big Cat Rescue is one of the best things about Tampa. The only thing that needs to change are the minds of the ignorant who come but that's exactly what BCR is trying to do. I will come back again.

I have been involved with Big Cat Rescue on different levels.
First as a AdvoCat where I am able to speak for these beautiful creatures with letters and petitions that I sign to assist in the current laws to be changed. Big Cat Rescue is extremely involved when it comes to changing the lives of the big cats and their survival.

Second as a visitor of different tours I was educated and was able to see and feel how much care and concern this sanctuary has for ALL Big Cats. The sanctuary has such a loving feel upon arrival and you can feel how much compassion has gone into everything involved. Including the care and upkeep of all the enclosures. All the volunteers that I have come in contact with have hearts of gold and are well versed in presenting the information and educating all the guests whom visit. All the big cats are very content and happy. The staff of volunteers bond with the animals but in a way that the big cats continue to have their own space and remain wild. I feel that everyone should do themselves a favor and attend a tour at Big Cat Rescue so they may too, be educated properly on how these beautiful creatures should remain in the wild and not exploited or live a dosmestic life, when it is not the right thing to do.

This non profit is NOT an attraction like a zoo. They are open for the public to come and learn about what really happens to wild animals that are used as exhibits and as pets. They are a TRUE SANCTUARY. They do not breed and DO NOT BUY animals. They are contacted many times every year about taking "pets" that have outgrown their cuteness. They have taken all of the Ringling Circus tigers and they will live out their lives in peace. Ringling pays for their upkeep. The cages are set in as natural a setting as possible. Trees & grasses are there so they can climb & stalk. Their mission is to educate the public abou the horrors of zoos, roadside attractions, the wild pet trade, and breeding of wild cats. Do you know that white tigers aren't rare? They are a birth defect caused by inbreeding? Look at their website www.bigcatrescue.org , go visit, make a donation if you can. They are awesome. And don't listen to tigerlover's "review." you can tell by the way he/she talks that they would contribute to those roadside zoos. They want an ATTRACTION not the real story. This is real. They don't hide things & tell the truth. I've visited for 15 years. They've only gotten better in regards to education and will go to Washington to stand up for animal rights. They run solely on donations & it's not cheap to feed those animals let alone upkeep cages, get vet service, etc. Go visit & treat yourself to seeing some beautiful cats, but also be prepared to shed a few tears as you hear the stories of how the animals were abused or neglected.

I heard about Big Cat Rescue and after reading about them on their website, I knew I had to visit (even though I live in NH). Initially I sent a few emails with some questions that I had and they responded promptly with the answers. I went on 3 different tours when we were in Tampa in April 2010. The tours were great and the guides were friendly and knowledgeable. It was so nice to see that these cats which had been abused, neglected or born into the pet-trade, were now living out their lives peacefully at Big Cat Rescue. I saw first hand how much the staff loves these animals and how much they take care not to stress out those animals that are not comfortable with the tour groups. This is a special place and it is on the top of my list to visit when we go back to Florida next year.

After that visit, I was truly in love with the facility, the people, the cats, their mission and their dedication to both captive and wild big cats as well as their dedication to educating people on the need to stop these big cats from ending up in backyards and roadside 'wannabezoos' and other places that use, abuse and discard these great animals. I continued to visit other facilities for a couple more years but always always I found myself coming back to BCR as no other facility captured my heart as did BCR. In my eyes, no other facility adhered to the extreme standards that BCR does in ALL areas. For the past 4+ years I have completely devoted myself to BCR and their educational mission. BCR is not only the cleanest most well run facility I have been involved with but is also the facility that has the highest standards across the board of any facility I have ever came across. BCR has the highest standards in health care, emotional well being of the cats, cleanliness, dedication to education, food quality, food storage and prep, animal habitats, money management & responsible use of funds and the list goes on and on. They are leaders in the field in all aspects. Their long ago history of being a breeder, buyer, seller is so long ago it is ancient history. Carole is extremely open about where they came from. What all this says to me is they have more of an understanding of what the real problems are regarding exotic animals held by private owners. They saw there was a problem with exotics as pets, saw how big and wide the problem was, realized they were part of the problem and LEARNED and CHANGED and became part of the solution to ending those problems! BCR’s past as a breeder, buyer, and seller is ancient history! They have since then been a powerful leader for putting an end to breeding, buying and selling for a very very very long time for far longer than they were part of the problem. Since then they have evolved from being part of the problem so long ago they have become a powerhouse and respected leader in ending the problems, educating the public and encouraging change exposing truths about exotic pet ownership and so on. Others, who do not want exotic pet ownership ended, those who profit from buying, selling & breeding these great animals for the exotic pet trade hate BCR because what BCR strives for is an end to exotics as pets which will end the non-stop stream of abandoned, abused, neglected and exploited big cats that end up needing rescued. People who make a living off big cats hate BCR because BCR is making a difference with their widespread educational efforts. Those BCR haters have nothing to use but BCR's so long ago past and anything false they can come up with or any false twists they can put on things. You will notice those who bad-mouth BCR throw up that ancient history repeatedly because they have nothing current to smear BCR with because for years and years BCR has not been breeders, buyers or sellers. Instead BCR learned and evolved into being part of the solution instead of remaining as part of the problem where those bad-mouthers did not evolve and choose to remain part of the problem. BCR became part of the solution those bad-mouthers did not. Those bad-mouthers hate what BCR stands for therefore will say or do anything in an attempt to stop BCR’s educational efforts because as more states ban big cats as backyard pets the fewer customers those bad-mouthers will have. Ultimately, that means fewer big cats living in backyards and basements. GO BCR!!! BCR is all above board, adheres to the highest standards, educates the public about the terrible outcomes for the animals in private hands and encourages people to not support facilities who are part of the problem instead of part of the solution. BCR believes sanctuaries should become accredited, which is an easy inexpensive process that can help increase public donations to those facilities. However, facilities that are not willing to do what is right for the animals choose not to become accredited because they do not want to adhere to proper standards of care or because they prefer to breed buy and sell. BCR is outspoken on exposing the difference between real and phony sanctuaries. Many private owners who buy, sell and breed also beg donations from the public by calling themselves a sanctuary, when in fact they are part of the source of putting big cats in backyards of private owners that will later need rescuing. Big Cat Rescue is outspoken on explaining that real sanctuaries do not buy, sell or breed. Real sanctuaries are part of the solution not part of the problem. Again, I have visited, worked with, participated in, done projects for, done photography for, etc MANY animal facilities across this country, those accredited, non-accredited, and even AZA facilities and in my opinion BCR sets the and adheres to the highest standards in all categories of any!!

My husband and I have worked as volunteers every Friday for the past three years @ Big Cat Rescue. Being able to observe all of the magnificent cats play, interact with their environments, sleep and, yes, sometimes even dream has been an amazing honor. Big Cat tries to provide their cats the very best in nutrition, veterniary care, stimulation/ enrichment and security. Big Cat also educates the public about maintaining natural habitats for each cat species and advocates laws to help protect these species from legaized sport hunting, and pet/ fur trading. It is a great privilege to be one of the caregivers of such an amazing organization.

No longer able to visit Florida's west coast, I do what I can to spread the word about Big Cat Rescue's mission. They are top notch, and deserve to win; they ESPECIALLY do not deserve to be maligned by liars/those in the fur trade industry -- but that's to be expected when you're doing true good.

Big Cat Rescue does just what the name implies. It takes wild, exotic cats that are usually living in terrible conditions and gives them a decent place to live out their days. The cats have room to move about and jump, their enclosures are kept clean, they are given proper medical care, and they are fed properly (not friskies). At the same time, they are kept safe from the public and vice-versa. It is too bad that these animals need to be rescued. They should be in their natural habitat in the wild. But since the need is there, I'm glad BCR is there to do the job and do it well.

There's a difference between pets, livestock, wildlife and exotic animals. Big Cat Rescue helps draw the line by increasing awareness, supporting responsible legislation and saving many exotic and north American wildcats who were breed and/or kept as though they were pets or livestock.

Big Cat Rescue does a magnificient job of giving rescued bigs cats and some not so big cats (sand cat, geoffery cats) a quality of life experience. Many times they rescue abused animals that have had horrible living conditions, small cages, poor or no food, little veterinary care. These animals show their by interacting with their environment and showing some contentment with there abodes. I have made the trip to Big Cat Rescue from the Washington, D.C. area twice just to be able to help. I come back feeling very rewarded for the time spent.

As volunteer for Lions, Tigers and Bears in Alpine, California, I did office work, telephone calls, wrote letters, made flyers, recruited volunteers for maintenance especially to build fences and cages, recruited volunteers for all jobs and donated to various projects. I did many various things for Lions, Tigers and Bears.

On a vacation trip to Tampa last April, my daughter insisted that we use our last day visiting Big Cat Rescue. Her teenage daughter was less than thrilled (the beach!) and I was interested, although I had never heard of anything like it. What an experience!! While immensely interesting and informative, the best part was the absolute respect given these beautiful animals. I was very deeply moved by the attitude of the staff and volunteers and I totally changed my views on animal exhibitions and acts. I only wish we lived closer so we could volunteer there.

I have been to Big Cat Rescue on the Day Tour five different times. The staff is very knowledgeable about the cats, their behavior, and what they need but the staff also balances that very well with the way they deal with the public. Questions are taken very seriously and are answered as honestly as possible. Visitors are given generous advice on their comfort and safety during the visit and are closely watched and escorted. For those visitors who cannot stand or walk for very long, the staff drives them around the tour on the cart. Everyone puts the cats and their welfare first and that really shows. They all work so hard to educate the public about how they got the cats in the first place and to try to stop the animal trade. Even the wild birds and other animals that come to the sanctuary are welcomed and treated with love and respect. I have been on at least two tours that where if a cat was anxious or nervous, it was lovingly spoken to and then given its space to hide, even though many guests wanted to linger. This sanctuary truly goes all the way to care for these cats and give them the healthiest and safest lives possible.

Several years ago, my partner and I planned a visit to Tampa. After doing a lot of research on places to visit in the area, I learned about Big Cat Rescue. After digging a little further and investigating them, I found Big Cat Rescue to be a reputable non-profit that wanted to help the cats (I have been contributing since). We planned a visit to Big Cat Rescue and were looking forward to the trip. Unfortunately our trip was cancelled due to weather. Recently I had the pleasure of visiting the sanctuary and it was the highlight of the trip. I found this organization deeply committed to the welfare of the animals and treating all the animals with diginty and respect. When I returned home, I shared the pictures with everyone and educated several on Big Cat Rescue. I would recommend families visit Big Cat Rescue. This isn't a petting zoo or a picutre with cub in your lap place - this is truly educational sanctuary. Uur future generations can learn what beautiful animals big cats are and that they should remain in the wild.

This is a wonderful non-profit! They not only rescue abused, neglected, or abandoned big cats, but they also help to educate the public in an effort to put an end to the exotic animal trade and fur trade that put these poor creatures in these situations to begin with. They have numerous campaigns to help educate the public and get laws passed to bring an end to the abomination of fur farms, exotic

This sanctuary for big cats is absolutely amazing because it truly focuses on the well-being of the big cats in their care. They understand that these cats should live in the wild and try to make the best out of a situation that is less than ideal for these captive animals. The sanctuary worries about both the mental and physical aspects of the cats in their care. They also work to save wild big cats and end the cycle of captivity and abuse of big cats. Big Cat Rescue is one of the best non-profit organizations I have come across.

The cats had beautiful enclosures that were far larger and more comfortable than those in any zoo. The cats could walk, climb, find sun and shade, and (best of all) each had a house or shelter where it could get out of the rain or hide from visitors. The tour experience was calm and informative. Staff and volunteers were respectful of the cats as friends and equals, not as mere livestock or objects. Since my visit, I've followed Big Cat Rescue's news and updates and have been very impressed with their continuing improvements to the sanctuary and activism to benefit all cats and exotic animals.

Big Cat Rescue is not only the best exotic cat sanctuary in the world, working to educate the public and stop the trade and private ownership of exotic animals, but they also work everyday to make the sanctuary and community green. They have a public recycling program, are working to install solar energy and are constantly looking for way to increase energy efficiency and reduce waste at the sanctuary.

This is a fabulous organization that is truly devoted to its mission: conserving big cats in the wild and eliminating their trade in captivity. I was a long time (20+ years) resident of Tampa and know first hand the reputation of this organization in the community: clean as a whistle! I do not know what organization these detracters are a part of - but they clearly have an underlying agenda that is not pro animals. I hope that visistors to this sight learn from those that have actually had experience with Big Cat Rescue and peg the negative comments for what they really are - uneducated, biased propaganda. Save the cats!

Each visit brings excitement to see these beautiful animals that I have come to recognize with each visit, and comfort knowing that they are the lucky ones that were saved and will be cared for thoroughly. These big cats and other animals enjoy grass, open air enclosures, pools, toys, and other enrichments that far exceed the types of enviroments that other farms, zoos, or side shows allow for their exotic animals.

I have been a BCR volunteer for the past 15 months. Prior to becoming a volunteer I was a donor/supporter. Big Cat Rescue volunteers are the most dedicated and hard-working group of people I have ever met. The well-being of the cats is first and foremost. Big Cat Rescue's mission is to 1) Care for the Cats and 2) End the trade.

Even though I do not live in Tampa, I have had the opportunity to visit Big Cat Rescue twice now and have loved every minute of the tours! The staff and volunteers are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. In addition, I have been a long time online follower and donor. One of the most amazing facts about Big Cat Rescue is how effectively they use the money received. The CEO/founder Carole, VP Cathleen, and Treasurer Harold collect NO COMPENSATION from BCR! (check page 7 the Form 990 for details) In addition, a vast amount of the work done at the sanctuary is done by (unpaid) volunteers. Thus, any money collected is able to go directly to helping the cats under their care and helping educate people about the plight of other "big cats". Please consider joining me in supporting this worthy organization!

Those who make their living or get their kicks from keeping big cats in cages have no excuse for their selfish behavior so they post comments like this one as a feeble way to try and detract from the good work we do. You can find out all about us here: http://www.bigcatrescue.org/FAQ.php
