I am a monthly donor to Best Friends Animal Society. When I see the remarkable things they do, I am proud to be involved with this group. When Hurricanes Harvey and Irma hit Texas and Florida they were one of the first groups to be on scene and continue today to help the communities and the animals. So many pet owners were able to reunite with their pets These people have their hearts in the right place. They save lives and work tirelessly to end animal abuse.
I recently began donating to Best Friend's Animal Society but I can thankfully say my money is going where it should. I have a recurring monthly donation and I really like the wish list on Amazon.com because I know I'm buying something they have immediate needs for. Triple Platinum Charity in my books.
I first heard about Best Friends back in the early 90's, and made it a bucket list place that I finally got to visit in 2007. It did not disappoint, they are an amazing organization and do wonderful work in giving hope, health, dignity and opportunities to animals who have been abused, neglected or just aren't wanted any more. I was more than impressed with them taking in Micheal Vick's dogs and getting them rehabilitated, new families for most and for just taking on that monumental task! They are at the forefront of animal advocacy, whether it is no kill, trap/neuter/release, puppy mills, adopting from shelters, etc., etc. They deserve all the respect in the world for their work; I was amazed to read the story of how the group got started and their humble beginnings. I also think they deserve props for opening satellite rescues around the country to help even more animals and allow more people to see and understand their work and help/volunteer. I can't say enough about this group, and anyone who visits the rescue in Kanab, Utah would agree in a heartbeat!
I live in Kanab, UT and have volunteered with Best Friends, and my child has attended their kid's camp. It's a beautify property, with a lot of well cared for animals. They do a lot of amazing outreach, and their presence here has impacted the community in a positive way.
I just love how Best Friends took in Michael Vick’s dogs, rehabilitated them, and found them good homes. This organization truly cares about animals. Best Friends, I love you so much.
Went there to take a tour and spent the day. I was amazed at what a large facility Best Friends is and the amount of volunteers and professional staff. They are well-trained and knowledgeable. It is such a clean and well-organized place. My next pet will definitely come from there because of the care, quarantining, love, and special attention the animals get.
The tragedy of unwanted, abandoned, hoarded and out-lived-the-owner parrots is an enormous sadness. Animal service facilities, shelters, community animal activists, and major NGO's have overlooked this crisis, and continue to ignore the plight of thousands of captive/companion birds. Best Friends Parrot Garden is a hopeful springtime breeze in a desolate environment of ignorance. The staff, volunteers and facilities are geared to the needs of the birds--birds first--to their health, welfare and well-being.
I will recommend to all, far and wide, private and organizational, rescue and private individual, to visit/volunteer/adopt and observe the high standards and procedures embraced by Best Friends and the Parrot Garden. The birds are happy, clean, relaxed, cooperative with volunteers and staff, able to "be birds" AND be loved by humans embracing their various bird-personalities. The birds' individuality is respected and they are given the space, quietude, interaction, and care that each individual demands and needs.
As a veterinarian who has worked with birds for the last 30+ years, I have seen every kind of rescue, shelter, owner, life style, horror, happiness, successful and failed system to care for or rescue birds in need. Parrot Garden is at the top, excellent, and striving to improve even those standards.
Please donate, volunteer or adopt from Best Friends Parrot Garden.
I have been to Best Friends several times to volunteer.
The animals are treated amazingly well!
The people there are fabulous!
I love Best Friends & will always support them!
I have been a supporter and follower of Best Friends since 2005, when they were knee deep in the Katrina rescue. The amount of love and devotion to their cause is unsurpassed. The thousands of lives saved and adoptions by Best Friend makes you wonder. Who rescues who?
I have been donating to Best Friends almost since their beginning. I also had the opportunity to visit with them a few years ago. This visit was what made me truly believe in what they are aspiring to achieve.... "save them all", "no more homeless animals".
Only reading about what Best Friends has accomplished is not enough; everyone should take the time to visit the sanctuary itself, or one of their rescue shelters across the U.S. You will see, & feel, first hand what I experienced.... and, if you're lucky enough, your heart will swell with a little more love, and respect, for what they do. Also, you will become a part of this (movement) as a participant... for years to come!
Save them all... I want to do everything possible to help them with this goal!
I’m 86 yrs old... and have had many, many animals ( birds, cats, a rabbit, and especially dogs) in my home. ALL of them been rescues. All of my life, my goal was to rescue. “Best Friends” does, what everyone should do...every life is worth saving. End the killing of animals!!!!!
I was first introduced to Best Friends through the TV show Dog Town. I was so impressed with the love, patients, and devotion everyone involved with the show, demonstrated to those dogs. Then the Best Friends also took in the Victory Dogs I as blown away with determination to help those battered dogs. I eventually became a member of Best Friends, and felt the need to get my hands on any material that was about devoted to their motto of "Save Them All". Then in the summer of 2017, I was able to live out my dream of visiting the Best Friends Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah. I was not disappointed! We took every tour we could, bought from the gift shop, visited with people who worked there, and those also visiting, and enjoyed our cottage. The most moving experience while there was the devotional/memorial service in Angels Rest. We will be going back for sure, and hoping volunteering. In fact, I wouldn't at all mind going there annually. As there is know place else I'd rather been, then the Best Friends animal sanctuary. Oh, and let's not forget ALL the help they are providing during the hurricanes, floods, etc. And I of course made a donation during that time, as I know they were overwhelmed financially, as there was so much distruction, and they were right there, when every they were needed.
I am extraordinarily grateful the Best Friends Animal Society exists. When I rescued my little Daisy Rey out of a car engine, I was terrified about her fate -- I was not allowed to have pets for an extended period of time at the place I was temporarily staying at, and I didn't know where I'd be living in two months. That uncertainty was no place to raise a tiny kitten.
I was also scared of giving her up to the shelters, since a lot of kittens are automatically euthanized during heavy kitten seasons. Fortunately, Best Friends Animal Society set up a table right outside the county shelter, specifically to deal with newborn kittens. The resources and affiliated groups they were working with enabled me to "foster" Daisy for the next six weeks and provided me with refills for food, bedding, toys, litter, vaccinations and flea medications -- literally EVERYTHING required to raise a kitty, absolutely FREE.
Since I chose to adopt her, they also waived the adoption fee and waived the cost for her spaying. I was then able to take her back home where she is happy and healthy and surrounded by my family's other kitties.
Best Friends Animal Society works to ensure that no animal is left behind and that none are killed. They do good work and I would be without one of the greatest loves of my life without them. THANK YOU for everything you do.
We adopted our dog Ellie from the Kanab, UT shelter in February, 2017 when she was five months old. We had never had a pet since we married in 1999 as we traveled a lot for work. We retired in 2013 and spent more time traveling for pleasure but when my husband said he wanted to get a dog I jumped on board. Since I was not able to go with him to Kanab we looked at their website and one puppy stood out to me. Her name was Witch and her picture was adorable. I put her at the top of my list but knew she might be be available. My husband drove to Kanab and texted me a picture of Witch in the back of our SUV all ready to make the trip home. She had arrived in Kanab at the end of October 2016 with her Mom and the rest of the litter. They gave them all Halloween names but my husband suggested Ellie, short for Elvira the witch. She has been Ellie ever since and we love her dearly. We recently moved from Las Vegas, NV to Highland, IL. We looked for a place with Ellie in mind and found a home on two acres which has a partially fenced yard and Ellie is in seventh heaven. We both had dogs growing up and when our kids from previous marriages were young but Ellie is now our baby and we are Dad and Mom! We owe many thanks to Best Friends Animal Society for rescuing Ellie!!
We adopted our cat Peachie from Best Friends in Kanab. Peachie is a CH cat with special needs who lived in the Morgaine's house. We drove down from Salt Lake to get her and I couldn't believe what an amazing place it was. Everyone we met was so dedicated to the animals and it was so beautiful there. I am so proud to have this organization in my state. They have worked tirelessly to improve the lives of animals not just in Utah, but around the country. People travel from around the world to visit the Best Friends sanctuary in Angel Canyon and I can totally see why. Visiting there was an experience I will never forget.
It was an amazing place to see. Thousands of acres dedicated to a sanctuary for animals. The tours are very interesting learning about the history of how Best Friends got started. The staff I met were very dedicated and I could tell they were passionate about their jobs.
I loved learning about the pigs and pig rescue. I got to walk them.
The main reason I went their was for the dogs. I love dogs and volunteer at a shelter but also wanted to see and hear about the Pit Bulls they rehabilitated from the Michael Vick dogs. I loved walking the dogs and wished I lived closer to volunteer their more. They do amazing work and have a goal to make no kill shelters everwhere.
Leading the way to no kill nationwide, this organization is a blueprint for any group that wants to do good and do well, too. They are amazing and it is hard to find words, because superlatives just are not enough.
Best Friends saved over a thousand animals during Hurricane Harvey, the second worst Hurricane in US history. I volunteered approximately 2x per with them at NRG (the facility that Best Friends turned into The Southeast Texas "Pet Reunion Pavilion"). Best Friends paid for their staff and volunteers from across the country to come to Houston to help. I have never seen so much kindness in one facility.
I'm a professional dog trainer & have been involved with animal rights for over 20 years. Best Friends is the absolute best charity I've ever experienced. I am confident my money is being used in the most optimal way. I cannot promote them enough! They don't try to guilt people into donating and always focus on the positives. I once even received a phone call from one of the founders, Gabriel, thanking me for my $10 per month donation, in the nicest way. I was blown away by their dedication, and the ambitious goal to "Save Them All"- to end unnecessary shelter euthanasia by 2025. They have my support 100% !
A week ago I visited Best Friends shelter at NGR arena in Houston Texas to drop off supplies that were needed. I was allowed to tour and take pictures in hopes of my Facebook posting would draw attention to rescues from the destructive storms that hit the area back to back. The volunteers looked tired and hot but they worked relentlessly caring for each dog or cat. I was at awed by their efforts and diligent work ethic, They were well organized and had a system to taking dogs out for walks and bringing them back in. Logs on each dog were kept to date and medical needs provided. I broke down in tears seeing over 300 dogs but at the same time so happy knowing they would find wonderful forever family that would continue to love them. Love these guys.
Best Friends Animal Society is an amazing organization! I have worked with them as a volunteer multiple times and I have adopted two special needs cats from them as well. Aside from their national push for a No-Kill Nation for shelter pets, their focus on ending Breed Discrimination, the deployment of vital Emergency Response teams to disaster areas and so much more, they genuinely care about animal welfare as a whole and truly go above and beyond to maintain quality of life for any and all of the animals in their care.
As a volunteer, they make you feel like a vital part of their wonderful organization even if you can only give a couple of hours of your time. And the Volunteer Program itself is extremely organized and accommodating ensuring that any time you can volunteer provides the maximum benefit for all involved.
As a pet owner who has adopted special need pets from them, they were very gracious with their time. Before arriving at their main facility in Kanab, UT, I had picked out quite a few cats I thought I might be interested in, and the adoption coordinator, Larry Erdman, had given me a little information on each of them. Once I arrived, Larry took time over multiple days to take me to several buildings all over the facility's grounds to see all the cats on the list and even pointed out some other cats that weren't on my initial list that he thought I'd be interested in. Even though he had his regular job to do he was extremely giving with so much of his time, making sure I was perfectly matched with my future pets.
I adopted two of the cats he recommended, Arby and Malorie, and Best Friends has been supportive ever since. They checked with me after the adoption to ensure everything was going smoothly, and even one of the founders of Best Friends called me to see how they were doing.
As a disabled veteran who is unable to work, my income is very limited, yet I provide the Best Friends Animal Society a monthly donation because I believe so much in what they do and what they stand for. I love this organization and it is incredibly worthy of any and all support and awards it may receive.
PIctured: Malorie and Arby
I have been following Best Friends and donating whenever I can since they started adopting out the Vicktory Dogs. My donor experiences have shown them to be a reliable, transparent, and effective charity. I volunteered in Kanab at Best Friends this past summer for the first time. I was able to see for myself how they do their work, how donations are used, and how successful their adoption and sanctuary efforts are. And it was especially exciting to learn more about their national efforts. I have recommended BFAS to several fellow animal lovers, and will do so at every opportunity.
Best Friends Animal Society is an exceptional organization!! I have been volunteering for them for 7 years in NY. I am so happy to be a part of Best Friends and to participate in such an important mission that I am so passionate about! Absolutely no animal should die because they don’t have a home and Best Friends work to rescue, save and educate the public is amazing!! I have met so many committed and incredible people over the years and seen so many happy endings of animals finding their forever homes and people finding their fur best friend. The stories are countless and Best Friends work is amazing!!
I have yet to go to the Sanctuary in Kenab (UT), but someday...
Several years ago, just watching tv on a Saturday afternoon, I came across the program Dogtown about the Sanctuary and all the work they do rescuing dogs (deplorable conditions!) and educating owners (outreach). Not to mention all the incredible work they do with the dogs to rehabilitate and ultimately, re-home them.
Of course, Best Friends rescues all sorts of other animals as well and their reach is expanding as they open adoption centers across the country. (Thrilled they finally came to NYC!)
I have volunteered on a few occasions, including "Strut Your Mutt" last year. The fact that the founder of Best Friends really started the No-Kill shelter movement makes Best Friends an outstanding candidate for any Great NonProfit award in my mind. However, I also know first-hand that they are all about their mission. I have twice met the Executive Director of the NYC Adoption Center, the second time, working out of what appeared to be a closet, not a fancy Executive Suite. The adoption center was beautifully and thoughtfully designed for the comfort of the animals. Volunteers must attend training sessions before they can participate. Again, it's all about the animals.
Best Friends leads by example: patience, perseverance, loving kindness.
This is the most amazing organization! I have been a donor for more years than I can remember. Have visited their Utah home twice...what a glorious place it is! Areas for dogs, cats, horses, pigs, birds and anything else that may need help..they are awesome! The facilities include a hospital with a full time vet , animal behaviorists and most importantly, the volunteers who take care of the animals day in and day out.Their message of "no kill" is coming to fruition as more and more groups join them in their quest for a no kill world. Can't say enough good things about this organization and the people that work for them!!!
A friend of mine first told me about Best Friends years ago. I have charities that I give to on a regular basis, may not be much, but I do what I can. While doing some research on Best Friends, what struck me immediately was their motto; we can save them all. That had always been a dream of mine and although not probable, anything is possible. I'll tell you, if anyone can do it, this extraordinary organization can! I now donate a monthly amount. So many animals of many species have been helped, healed, rescued, adopted, and loved because of Best Friends and the amazing people directly and indirectly involved, including the volunteers of course. What an authentic impactful organization. I was just telling my sister about them over the weekend telling her about all the work they have done in Houston and wherever else the animals need them. I am so grateful for these really good human beings.
I love Best Friends! I believe they are the most honest, dedicated animal rescue organization truly invested in their mission to "save them all". I've been a fan many years and contribute when I can but was most impressed when Best Friends stepped up and saved/rehabbed so many of Michael Vick's pit bulls. Their tireless efforts helped change the stigma the breed has suffered with.
Hi - I live in Houston and didn't know about Best Friends till Hurricane Harvey. I found out about what they were doing on FB - saving all the dogs and cats lost during the hurricane. They did such an incredible job at NRG - housing and feeding so many. It was overwhelming! I was so impressed I gave a donation and will continue to do so. They are amazing and so are all of their volunteers! I'm so glad that organizations like this exist! Thank you Best Friends for saving so many Houston area animals!!!! I have three rescue dogs at home :) Lori Luschei
We adopted our dog, Harby, from Best Friends 2 years ago. The organization is doing amazing things for both homeless pets in communities as well as pets needing shelter and assistance during natural disasters such as hurricanes and fires. Best Friends is the greatest organization. I am so proud of have gotten our best friend from there and will continue to support their endeavors forever!
I recently had an opportunity to visit Best Friends new facility in New York City with my grandson. It is an amazing place filled with caring staff and volunteers helping save this City’s animals in need of homes and love!
I have visited the Sanctuary in Kanab, UT many times. Going on the tour is very informative, but If you want to see how much dedication has been put into the care of the animals, I suggest you volunteer at one of the many areas (dogs, cats, bunnies, horses, birds). You will see the love for what they do shining through everywhere! One of my favorites is the puppy socialization program. This was developed to insure that when puppies are adopted, they remain with the family and are not returned. The feeling of peace & joy is overwhelming! I'll be back to visit again in May 2018!
I 1st heard about Best Friends when I got a donation request in the mail. I sent in a donation and they sent back a Thank You (no additional money was requested). I continued to support them and then decided to go for a visit. This is the most wonderful place! They have given great thought to what is best for all of the animals in their care. I have been back for 2 other visits and am planning one for next Spring! Everyone is super nice when you arrive! They show you what you can expect when you are working with the animals! It's such a great experience! I've worked with the dogs, cats, bunnies and horses each time I've been there! It's sad when you have to leave because it's such a nurturing environment, but you know they will continue to care for each and every animal that comes to the sanctuary to the best of their ability! My BEST vacations ever!!!
Have followed Best Friends Animal Society for awhile now and am always inspired by their great deeds.
Best Friends never stops. They rescued dogs from Michael Vick's dog fighting business, evaluated and rehabilitated them so that many were adopted into homes. Those that couldn't be adopted were/are kept in a loving environment well cared for, for the rest of their lives. They still have staff and volunteers in Houston taking care of displaced animals due to the hurricane. They have rescued animals from all over the world from unimaginable pain, hunger and suffering. They are supported by millions of people who volunteer their time, love and money to caring for animals in need. I have donated to their efforts financially for many years.
Best Friends is a model of humanity. Saving our animals, children & elders show the true meaning of compassion. I donate and volunteer at the new NY Adoption Center. I have witnessed people’s lives change when they save an animal who lives them unconditionally. I adopted a special needs cat who has taught me patience while giving me the greatest joy. Too may animals need homes. Best Friends goal is to clear the shelters by 2025. We can do this together.
I am so thankful for their work with animals caught in natural disasters. I am beginning monthly donations in November. I am so glad they are a no kill group. They deserve a big thank you from all animal lovers.
The love, care, devotion, and empathy Best Friends shows to every creature great and small is admirable. It's dedication that often goes unrewarded, unrecognized, as well unrealized to some extent due to lack of resources. On one hand, you have animals neglected, abused, or subjected to such apathy by Humans. On the other hand, you have other Humans like at Best Friends working day in and day out to save these animals. To give them lives of love, soft hands, food, and care. To educate people and show the other side of what goes in to all of the roles in order to care for these animals.
I can’t even begin to tell you how much I admire the work Best Friends do every second of every day! They are my heroes. In this world of bleakness for animals they truly make me believe we can “Save them All”. They give me hope for a better future for animals, and that maybe there ARE good people in the world.
When they started out and became successful....Best Friends were more accessable to help special needs pets through out the USA. Now they are larger and we'll known....They are great locally.. but will do nothing to help pets in need in other states that are not from a shelter. If you find an abandoned special needs pet that a local shelter would put down because of a health issue... Best Friends will no longer help... Very disappointing.
total giving for the animals...all animals. Not only is the Utah sanctuary clean, organized and wonderful in every way, but they reach out into the communities where ever and when ever they are needed. Best Friends works well with other organizations.
Several years ago I visited the campus with 3 friends. We worked with cats, dogs, horses, pigs and bunnies. It is a beautiful location which promotes health and happiness for everyone there - human and animal. I am particularly impressed with their veterinary skills and determination to help every animal (who would otherwise be considered a "throw away"). Often I tell people "They perform miracles every day." I had never had a vegetarian lunch and ended up chatting with the chef and buying a cookbook. If we had had more time there, I would have liked to learn more about the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. They also do amazing work setting up no kill shelters in other states and performing massive rescues after disasters like the hurricanes that recently hit Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico.
Several years ago I came with 3 friends to volunteer at Best Friends. We fed horses, cats, pigs and rabbits. Each time we were warmly greeted by the permanent caretakers who carefully explained our assignments. The housing areas, feed dishes, litter boxes, etc. were always clean. We were served lunch that was a vegetarian masterpiece and I had occasion to chat with the chef. Their knowledge of how to care for animals and their willingness to go to any length to help an injured or sick animal is amazing. I describe it as "performing miracles everyday".
At the end of the credits of the Free Willy movie was a number to call. I got referred to different people. I got connected with one of the founders of Best Friends who spent almost 45 minutes telling me everything he knew about the plan for Keiko. He then told me about Best Friends and I became a member. I visited in 2005 and was overwhelmed by the dedication and passion of everyone. Me and my husband came back in May of this year. As of 9/1/17 we have moved to Kanab. My husband got a job there and I'm volunteering. They are accomplishing the seemingly impossible mission of uniting shelters nationwide to join in their mission to "save them all" with innovative adoption ideas and getting shelters to work together as a network. This is the most effective animal saving organization I've ever been involved with.
6 years ago we adopted a dog through Best Friends. He had been owner surrendered to a high kill shelter in Los Angeles. Best Friends had placed him twice prior to us taking him. He was quite a challenge but we are so happy that he became a Mountain Dog. When filling out the adoption papers they asked what kind of dog I wanted I said "a Goofy one" boy did they deliver. The volunteers were willing to drive almost a 100 miles to bring him to us and we are so happy that they did! His name was Lucky now Achates.
I have volunteered with Best Friends at the NRG Pet Shelter after Hurricane Harvey. I have personally seen the work they do. It is amazing to say the least. The amount of care that they give each and every animal is second to none. I immediately joined Best Friends when I got home from volunteering. Can't say enough good things about Best Friends!
The most amazing organization doing incredible work. Spread the word, they are aiming for No Kill status in every shelter in the USA. Glad to support them whenever I can.
Best Friends goes above and beyond to help give animals a second chance when others chose to stop caring. I personally support their efforts to stop killing pets in shelters, everywhere. We need to make sure all animals are fixed, have a place to go like Best Friends when people turn their backs on their pets. We all are in debt to Best Friends. Thank You for caring and loving God’s Creatures, Big and Small.
This is an organization that truly wants to create a world where all animals are treated with respect and love. Several of my family members volunteer there when they can and have nothing but praise. I hope someday to visit myself. Their work with the Vick dogs was really inspiring and I will continue to support their efforts at creating a "no-Kill" society.
I have been following the work of Best Friends since Hurricane Katrina. Since I have a Katrina rescue pup, I was very impressed with their work. My esteem only grew when they took in Michael Vick's dogs and rehabilitated them. While I don't have a lot to donate, I always feel my money will be used well by Best Friends,
Best Friends Animal Society is simply the best. They truly care about what happens to our best friends. I know that when I donate to Best Friends that the money is used wisely.
Love these group.
We went to visit Best Friends in Kanab in August. What an amazing experience! The staff there is awesome. We visited an area that houses special needs cats. These cats were so loved. Without Best Friends these cats would most likely be euthanized because of their issues. I'm so glad we got to experience Best Friends!!
I started following Best Friends when Dogtown was on. I found it fascinating the hard work they did helping the dogs on the show getting to get healthy both mentally and physically. I was so excited when I found out they were a rescue for all sorts of animals. From birds to pigs and all of God's creatures in between.
Their selfless and tireless work in stopping puppy mills is near and dear to my heart. I had a puppy mill dog that had a rough life due to his genetic issues. He was an awesome dog but he had tremendous health issues. So it became an important thing to me to stop puppy mills and backyard breeders. Best Friends works tirelessly to stop this.
Best Friends genuinely loves and cares for each an every animal in their care and for those across the country. They are just quite simply a wonderful organization.
I have been in Animal Rescue for over 45 years and I have watched best Friends Animal
Society grow and they are amazing...what they did during the last disaster took my breath
away...they are relentless in getting the job done..spending countless hours for the Cause...Please keep up the good work and the rest of us will do you proud locally in our own chosen cities....thank you so much.
After finding an injured kitten on my property I became interested in the welfare of feral cats. After getting the feral cats on my property fixed I decided I could help others. I couldn't do this with out the support of Best Friends. I have fixed over 300 adult cats using Best Friends community cat vouchers and humane trap rentals. I have helped caregivers set up winter shelters donated from Best Friends to keep community cats warm this winter. When caregivers run low on food I am able to direct them to Best Friends pet food pantry so no cat goes hungry. Best Friends is a great resource for community cats. TNR is an important part of helping UT become a no kill state.
I've supported Best Friends Animal Society for over 10 years now. They work tirelessly to help animals that need them most. I remember when I first heard Best Friends was going to be involved in the care of some of the dogs rescued from the michael vick case, I knew they were in good hands. So many of those dogs have gone on to live wonderful lives as cherished family members and BFAS played a big role in helping that happen.
I love this organization! One of my biggest passions is animal rescue and adoption, and Best Friends is one of the best groups on the planet who do this work! I have visited the sanctuary a few different times and have volunteered there as well as continue to donate to them. The animals are loved and cared for and those who aren't adopted for some reason are able to live their lives in security, peace, and love. The dedicated staff and volunteers help these animals readjust after trauma (such as the Michael Vick dogs) and are given comfort, play, and compassion while they are there. I wish there were most places like Best Friends in the U.S. and around the world!
Best Friends is hard to describe because the sanctuary itself is beautiful, the work they do in the country is incredible, the staff and volunteers are fabulous, the surroundings are beautiful. I have volunteered for 7 years, have adopted two cats, stay in the cottages and spread the word about this fantastic organization.
Review from Guidestar
I been having issues get my magazine I reported to them and the post office and never got the last issue but waiting for this month issue to come so the issue can be fix!
Best Friends is a wonderful organization that helps animals and pets in need. I have volunteered there many times and absolutely love it. The employees are friendly, helpful and dedicated. One of their most challenging issues are the Breed discrimination laws which are completely unjustified. I own a pit bull terrier and she is the sweetest dog in the world. She is gentle with my 4 cats and my elderly beagle (whom I adopted from best friends many years ago) , who is her best friend! I would trust this dog anyone. People who think they are a dangerous breed have never owned one. People are dangerous, not the breed.
26 people were killed by pit bulls so far this year (in the USA.)
Best Friends promotes pit bulls, and the fact is, how a pit bull was raised does not matter.
Pit bulls have a unique biting style (gripping and grinding) and a stronger jaw than other dogs. This makes them more of a caution, and Best Friends should be honest about that.
Public safety should trump the lives of dogs.
I'm so glad I found this organization. I've been a giver to Best Friends for years and never had a moments doubt about their intentions, goals or ability. They truly care for all animals and do their very best to save every one. This large and well run charity sole goal is the protection and betterment of animal lives. To that end they give their all. You simply will never find a more worthy and worthwhile charity in which to invest your hard earned dollar. I'd give them a six star recommendation if it were possible on this site.
Awesome group that helps so many animals! The animals are so very lucky that these people are there to help. God bless them!
I had been volunteering at Best Friends since I first found out about them in 2007. I have also participated in all of their workshops and many of their annual conferences. I have taken much of their shared information back to the shelter that I volunteered at. I eventually decided to apply to work for Best Friends and I am now the Animal Area Volunteer Coordinator Team Lead. This year we will probably exceed 10,000 volunteers. Many of them come on an annual basis.
I have been there twice and have my third trip planned. It is an awesome place. The staff there is very friendly, working with the animals is just amazing and you won't find any more beautiful scenery anywhere. The only bad part of the whole trip is when you leave :(
