Nonprofit Overview

Mission: Beauty’s Haven Farm & Equine Rescue, Inc. is a rescue, rehab, and re-home organization that was established in 2006. Our mission is to help equine in need, to educate the public about proper horse care, what to do if they come across a horse that is being abused or neglected, to provide assistance (when possible) to horse owners going through a short period of financial hardship, and to help humans through helping horses. We try to get youth involved – they are the horse owners of tomorrow. Awareness and education are key in helping our equine friends. Through helping horses, we hope to help people too. We give horses that have been neglected, abused, and/or abandoned a chance to begin their life, again--without pain and worry, but with dignity and respect. We welcome horses that are no longer needed, wanted or useful to their owners and we place them in good homes. We don’t feel there are “unwanted” horses--some are just “misplaced.” We try to help as many as we can find a good, forever-home before they end up in the slaughter pipeline where they would be at high risk of being sold to kill buyers and trucked across the borders where they are slaughtered for human consumption. We also network with other organizations and individuals to help horses. We offer sanctuary to a limited number of horses with special needs. We have taken in babies as young as two hours old, pregnant mares, and our oldest rescue was 43 yrs old! Age and breed to not matter. We often take horses that others would not take for various reasons such as requiring extensive and/or costly rehab – we feel they all deserve a chance. Quality of life is always a factor in determining the future of each horse. We are pro-life – we do not euthanize any equine to make room for another. We have an excellent care team that includes professionals in traditional and holistic medicines, dentistry, equine podiatrists, etc. However, we do euthanize when it is in the best interest of the horse – we don’t deny a peaceful and loving end to any equine that is suffering or has a poor or painful quality of life that can’t be rehabilitated. We have taken in horses with birth defects, broken bones, mutilations, cancer, blindness, COPD, Cushing’s disease, are extremely emaciated, and have other serious diseases. We also help other animals (dogs, cats, pigs, goats, etc.) in need on occasion. In 2012 Beauty’s Haven was awarded Verified status by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS). GFAS is the only globally recognized organization that provides standards for identifying legitimate animal sanctuaries.

Target demographics: equine in need and through helping equine we try to help people too!

Geographic areas served: Florida and surrounding states

Programs: helping equine in need, educating the public about proper horse care and what to do if they come across a horse that is being abused or neglected, providing assistance (when possible) to horse owners going through a short period of financial hardship, and to help humans through helping horses. We try to get youth involved – they are the horse owners of tomorrow. Awareness and education are key in helping our equine friends. Through helping horses, we hope to help people – horses are very therapeutic.

My name is Deanna Golden and I have been following Beauty's Haven Equine Rescue and Farm every since I was diagnosed with cancer. From being diagnosed with an aggressive breast cancer and a yr of treatments, many biopsies and a few surgeries.... this was the ONLY PLACE I WANTED TO GO TO WHEN I WAS HEALTHIER AND STRONGER!! Finally after almost 5 yrs. of waiting, my dream came true! I first time really getting to go anywhere and it wasn't to a beach or the mountains.. It was here in Morriston Florida that I got to meet Theresa and Bob Batchelor and the never ending love and care goes on 24/7. I think the few volunteers that I got to meet down there that day are lucky.. Lucky in the sense that they are able to go and help with horses and mini donkeys that have been severely abused, neglected, abandoned or were seized. There were around 30-32 animals there when my sister Karen and my niece Jaden when we visited a few weeks ago. Being able to relearn how to wash a horse (lol) , watch the optometry vet work on Cookies eye and take pictures for Theresa was such a learning experience. Scooping manure from paddocks and spreading it! YES, I would do that everyday if it meant that I could stop and visit and talk with these amazing animals that NOW KNOW what its like to be loved and cared for! Getting to meet all the animals that I have watched for the past yrs. and will probably live out their days there because of there health issues. Betsy Rose, Cookie, Penny, Mishka, Carey Lou, Sawyer, Ruby, JoJo and Jazzy, Lil E, Waylon, Zahara(i am glad you have your forever home now), Fancy, Classy, Starbuck, Oasis, Tinsel, Emma, Lil Lucy, Magic, Peaches, Sophie and Rosita and Beauty. I LOVED getting to meet all of you and the others! I know that I can't wait to see y'all again to give love and kisses to! My sister, niece and I have learned so much from just the short time we were there. Thank you Theresa and Bob for your kindness and having us there!Sincerely, with Love and Prayers for you and your continued never ending work!Deanna Golden - Jamestown, KentuckyKaren Hylton - Lexington, S.C.Jaden Hylton - Lexington, S. I have been following Beauty's Haven for quite some time. In November, I finally had the opportunity to visit Theresa and Bob and all the horses, donkeys and mules. That day was probably one of the best days ever. I saw first hand the dedication, care and love that goes into each and every animal in their care. From cleaning Donovan's leg, to medicating, clipping and bathing Mishka to keep him comfortable and checking Daisy's eye under her fly mask. They are all given the absolute best of care and every one of those beautiful creatures adores Theresa. They know how much she cares. She works until she can barely move and then works some more because the animals' needs ALWAYS come first. The volunteers work just as hard and are just as dedicated. It was an honor to be there and meet everyone (horses and humans). I personally feel this is one of the best rescues I have ever come across. I'm hoping my next visit can be soon to this little slice of heaven on earth.

we have been volunteering at Beauty's Haven for several months. We are honored to be part of Bob and Theresa's organization. The first gentle giant we met was Matilda. She would follow us around and make us feel at home. I am tearful as I type this of hearing of her passing on. So sorry Theresa, Kylie and everyone else who cared and loved her. Sharon and Lew

Such a wonderful and honest rescue. I live in California and became aware of BHER in Florida through a blog I read, several years ago. My husband I would donate throughout the years. About 2 years ago we happened to be in Florida and I realized we were a short drive away from the rescue. I contacted Theresa and asked if we could visit. Not a problem. Theresa was gracious and her volunteers very lovely. My husband and I were so impressed with the rescue. The pastures were clean, the horses well-loved, the property neat and tidy. We were so pleased to know our donations are going to a well-run and organized charity that are using ALL their donations for the animals. And we were so happy to see that for ourselves. I always recommend BHER to anyone who wants to support a loving horse charity or any charity for that matter. I hope they can continue do to this excellent work for many years to come. Blessings to BHER

My name is Kara Maki and I met Theresa in March of 2009 after a friend of mine in Florida told me about Beauty’s Haven. I will never forget my visit to the rescue, and how my life changed as a result of that visit, but I’ll let someone else tell you the rest of the story.

Hi everybody, my name is Joy, well Sammi’s Pride-N-Joy to be more exact. My Momma was Samantha, she was rescued from a man loading her onto a truck that was going to take her to a place I don’t even want to think about, and with me in her belly!!! My story almost ended there, but no siree, Theresa wasn’t having any of that and saved my Momma and brought her to Beauty’s Haven in January of 2009.

A few months later in early March someone came to the rescue and spent some time with Momma Sammi because she reminded her so much of her horse Pride that she had lost to colic a few months earlier (I don’t like that colic thing!). I could hear her talking to Momma Sam telling her to hurry up and have that baby (yep she was talking about me) while she was there or she would give her such a big hug she would squeeze me right out of there. But of course I didn’t make my appearance for another few weeks, after she left to go back home.

Shortly after I was born a request was made to adopt both me and My Momma!!! Could it be??
I got to stay with my Momma and we got our own human, our own home, our own family.
How cool is that!!!!!

None of this, no Momma Sammi, not me, not our new home, would have ever been possible if it hadn’t been for the love, determination, dedication and love (did I say that already?) of one woman –
Theresa and Beauty’s Haven Farm & Equine Rescue – We love you!!!!!

I’m the luckiest girl in the world, I have a birthday. Need I say more?!!

I have been following Beauty's Haven Farm And Equine Rescue for a few years now, and although I am not presently in a financial position to regularly support them financially, I do most enthusiastically support them in ways such as this. Trying to get the word out that they truly are an amazing rescue. I am in complete awe and gratitude to Theresa and the volunteers that take on some of the most severe near death horses and work their miracles with love, faith, and lots of hard work. I urge anyone reading these reviews to consider helping them in whatever way they can. Every little bit helps.

I may not be in Fla but have watched Beauty's Haven save countless "unsaveable" animals, be it a horse or donkey, dog left at a door step. Theresa, her husband and family, volunteers all do such a wonderful job and only ask for the animals, never for themselves. If there would be only one rescue, I would have to say Beauty's Haven Farm and Equine Rescue, Inc is the one!

I adopted a horse from Beauty's Haven Farm and Equine Rescue several years ago. I cannot speak highly enough of this rescue. The adoption process and follow-up from the rescue was more thorough that I have ever experienced before. I also follow Beauty's Haven on facebook and see continual support for horses in need, even when they barely have the resources to care for the horses already at the rescue, they find a way to help horses in need. Horses are truly blessed that this rescue exists.
