Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: Beauty’s Haven Farm & Equine Rescue, Inc. is a rescue, rehab, and re-home organization that was established in 2006. Our mission is to help equine in need, to educate the public about proper horse care, what to do if they come across a horse that is being abused or neglected, to provide assistance (when possible) to horse owners going through a short period of financial hardship, and to help humans through helping horses. We try to get youth involved – they are the horse owners of tomorrow. Awareness and education are key in helping our equine friends. Through helping horses, we hope to help people too. We give horses that have been neglected, abused, and/or abandoned a chance to begin their life, again--without pain and worry, but with dignity and respect. We welcome horses that are no longer needed, wanted or useful to their owners and we place them in good homes. We don’t feel there are “unwanted” horses--some are just “misplaced.” We try to help as many as we can find a good, forever-home before they end up in the slaughter pipeline where they would be at high risk of being sold to kill buyers and trucked across the borders where they are slaughtered for human consumption. We also network with other organizations and individuals to help horses. We offer sanctuary to a limited number of horses with special needs. We have taken in babies as young as two hours old, pregnant mares, and our oldest rescue was 43 yrs old! Age and breed to not matter. We often take horses that others would not take for various reasons such as requiring extensive and/or costly rehab – we feel they all deserve a chance. Quality of life is always a factor in determining the future of each horse. We are pro-life – we do not euthanize any equine to make room for another. We have an excellent care team that includes professionals in traditional and holistic medicines, dentistry, equine podiatrists, etc. However, we do euthanize when it is in the best interest of the horse – we don’t deny a peaceful and loving end to any equine that is suffering or has a poor or painful quality of life that can’t be rehabilitated. We have taken in horses with birth defects, broken bones, mutilations, cancer, blindness, COPD, Cushing’s disease, are extremely emaciated, and have other serious diseases. We also help other animals (dogs, cats, pigs, goats, etc.) in need on occasion. In 2012 Beauty’s Haven was awarded Verified status by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS). GFAS is the only globally recognized organization that provides standards for identifying legitimate animal sanctuaries.

Target demographics: equine in need and through helping equine we try to help people too!

Geographic areas served: Florida and surrounding states

Programs: helping equine in need, educating the public about proper horse care and what to do if they come across a horse that is being abused or neglected, providing assistance (when possible) to horse owners going through a short period of financial hardship, and to help humans through helping horses. We try to get youth involved – they are the horse owners of tomorrow. Awareness and education are key in helping our equine friends. Through helping horses, we hope to help people – horses are very therapeutic.

My name is Deanna Golden and I have been following Beauty's Haven Equine Rescue and Farm every since I was diagnosed with cancer. From being diagnosed with an aggressive breast cancer and a yr of treatments, many biopsies and a few surgeries.... this was the ONLY PLACE I WANTED TO GO TO WHEN I WAS HEALTHIER AND STRONGER!! Finally after almost 5 yrs. of waiting, my dream came true! I first time really getting to go anywhere and it wasn't to a beach or the mountains.. It was here in Morriston Florida that I got to meet Theresa and Bob Batchelor and the never ending love and care goes on 24/7. I think the few volunteers that I got to meet down there that day are lucky.. Lucky in the sense that they are able to go and help with horses and mini donkeys that have been severely abused, neglected, abandoned or were seized. There were around 30-32 animals there when my sister Karen and my niece Jaden when we visited a few weeks ago. Being able to relearn how to wash a horse (lol) , watch the optometry vet work on Cookies eye and take pictures for Theresa was such a learning experience. Scooping manure from paddocks and spreading it! YES, I would do that everyday if it meant that I could stop and visit and talk with these amazing animals that NOW KNOW what its like to be loved and cared for! Getting to meet all the animals that I have watched for the past yrs. and will probably live out their days there because of there health issues. Betsy Rose, Cookie, Penny, Mishka, Carey Lou, Sawyer, Ruby, JoJo and Jazzy, Lil E, Waylon, Zahara(i am glad you have your forever home now), Fancy, Classy, Starbuck, Oasis, Tinsel, Emma, Lil Lucy, Magic, Peaches, Sophie and Rosita and Beauty. I LOVED getting to meet all of you and the others! I know that I can't wait to see y'all again to give love and kisses to! My sister, niece and I have learned so much from just the short time we were there. Thank you Theresa and Bob for your kindness and having us there!Sincerely, with Love and Prayers for you and your continued never ending work!Deanna Golden - Jamestown, KentuckyKaren Hylton - Lexington, S.C.Jaden Hylton - Lexington, S. Beautyhaven is really the place where abused horses and other animals get to begin life again no one is to bad to be saved beautyhaven does not give up until the horse says it's time to give up most horses that come through there know that they are in a safe place and the bad things that happened to them is behind them they get to know love and care even if it's only for a short time or for the rest of their life this is truly a great non-profit when you go through the gates of beautyhaven they just know they are safe. The volunteers make up the village Theresa and Bob need to make it all Happen and the supporters and Grants and Great animal Organizations that help them Care financially for their care is all what makes The Rescue work and save so many that have given up Hope and by saving the Animals It gives Humans Hope that One animal soul can save so many human souls

Beauty Haven is Home to so many horses that were the worst of the worst where no one even thought they could possibly live thru what has been done to them. I have to admit there were quite i few that I said to myself My Goodness how do these Poor HOrses endure the pain of what was done to them. But Theresa and the Volunteers Never Give Up . THis truly is not only a Safe Haven for the abused but HEAVEN . though i dont get to be hands on volunteer any more due to work and TIme shortage . Its so true that it takes a Village to raise just one. and Her crew of Volunteers are dedicated Hard working,! Its tiring endless dedication with little time for relaxation for theresa and the crew. Please if you see your neighbors animals being abused, and starve DONT WAIT FOR SOMEONE ELSE TO CALL. !!! pick up the phone call the authorities and keep on calling them if you have to. !!

After the passing of 2006 Derby winner, Barbaro, I became involved in the movement to stop horse slaughter and was looking for a place to volunteer for horses in need. A fellow FOB (fans of Barbaro) recommend BHFER as a place I might enjoy.Well, I am forever grateful for her advice. I have been volunteering at Beauty's Haven since 2007 and have witnessed miracles you would not believe.
Sure, you say, miracles smiracles.....well visit Theresa's Web site and see for yourself.
The special touch she has for animals in need, cases of need that no one else will help, will make you a beliver.
Beauty's Haven is a very special place of love and caring. I am proud to be a volunteer

I traveled to Beauty's Haven to check out the operation for myself because I can't afford to donate money to an organization that isn't what it claims. I quickly learned that Theresa cares deeply for all the animals. And she has assembled a top quality team of experts to care for them. The volunteers love helping at the farm. I was so impressed that I went back the next year too. If you are able to donate, please don't hesitate to include Beauty's Haven Farm and Equine Rescue. Your money will go directly to the care of the horses.

Beauty's Haven is exactly what the name implies. A haven for horses that are neglected, starved, abused or simply unwanted. In order to feel comfortable donating, I traveled there and volunteered for 3 days in March 2013. I was amazed by the caring and professional atmosphere. Theresa and Bob and the volunteers care about the horses. I think it was the best 3 days of my year! It is not a "rescue" that just fattens up a thin horse, calls it "rescued" and then sells it to whoever has money. These horses receive the best care and if possible, are adopted, not sold. They require a contract stating the horse will come back if the adopter can no longer care for it. I went back for 3 days in March 2014 because I enjoyed it so much. The donations are spent on the horses, and you can designate where you want your money to be used if you want to! This is a 1st class operation. Theresa does daily updates with pictures on Facebook so there is daily contact with the public. Don't ever be afraid to donate to this rescue.

I lead a 4H horse group. We volunteer at Beauty Haven. This is one of the best run rescues. Horses are all cared for like they are worth millions of dollars. They are showered with love. The horses want for nothing. The people are also very nice and welcoming.

I took in a rescue "Archer" from BHFER and gave him a forever home. I was very impressed with Teresa and the rescue when I visited the place initially and met Archer. This organization is a wonderful example of how rescues should be run. All the animals are happy and regaining their health. Teresa makes absolutely proper decision for each and every animal. She is a wonderful and caring individual and we are blessed to have her. Thank you so much for all your work Teresa.

Thank you so much for the kind words! And thank you for opening your heart and home to Archer. He landed in a wonderful home and is so blessed to have a human that cares, truly cares - he's been very blessed. I wish all of the horses looking for homes could find a human like you.

I have been following Beauty's Haven for quite some time. In November, I finally had the opportunity to visit Theresa and Bob and all the horses, donkeys and mules. That day was probably one of the best days ever. I saw first hand the dedication, care and love that goes into each and every animal in their care. From cleaning Donovan's leg, to medicating, clipping and bathing Mishka to keep him comfortable and checking Daisy's eye under her fly mask. They are all given the absolute best of care and every one of those beautiful creatures adores Theresa. They know how much she cares. She works until she can barely move and then works some more because the animals' needs ALWAYS come first. The volunteers work just as hard and are just as dedicated. It was an honor to be there and meet everyone (horses and humans). I personally feel this is one of the best rescues I have ever come across. I'm hoping my next visit can be soon to this little slice of heaven on earth.
