Last year we decided it was time for a new member of our family. We decided to let my husband choose his first puppy. We fell in love with the pictures of a beagle litter. I applied on line and got approved within a couple of days. I was contacted by the foster the next day who told us to meet her at an adoption event that weekend. She was about an hour late, and we had arrived early to make sure we got the puppy we wanted, so that was irritating. I spent the time talking with the other fosters. These are committed people!
Once the puppies arrived, the fosters who had been there already made sure that that the puppy foster knew we were first. Luckily, everyone else who was there for that litter wanted something different, so we all went home with our favorite pup.
To my delight, this puppy was already paper trained. I have rescued many dogs in my life, but none have been as well socialized and trained at such a young age as this one. When it was time for neutering, I asked for another month based on my research on health needs of this breed. They agreed, and a month later they arranged the neuter around my schedule and at a well-regarded vet fairly close to me.
This was a great adoption experience for me. The fee is a bargain considering the neuter is covered. I highly recommend.
I foster pregnant moms and puppies for this organization they goeabove and beyond to care for these dogs. Having had one have a csection and 2 very sick bottle feed puppies they spared no expense to make these babies well! I am also an adopter after foster failing my last mom. Love Angels they have such a great group of fosters who spend hours of their time caring for theses animals!
I've fostered with Angels for over a year and half and this is an amazing organization! Everyone will go above and beyond to help any volunteer and their fosters. The dogs gets the best vet care in GA, training if needed and always lots of love! We get not only the cute fluffy dog/pups but also the hurt, broken dog who no one wants, the parvo pups, and the older dogs. AAU goes above and beyond to save dogs and to find them a great home
I have fostered almost 100 dogs for Angels Among Us and the support from everybody involved, the outstanding level of veterinary care, the incredible willingness the save the more difficult cases, the determination to help the emotionally and physically "broken" ones, makes AAU the BEST rescue I have ever worked with . The way they go above and beyond to save a dog or cat is absolutely the way a pet rescue should be . Best pet rescue ever !!!
Angels Among Us has been a wonderful organization to work with! They all are so kind and caring, it's easy to see they really want what is best for the animals in their care. As a volunteer for over 5 years, I can't imagine working with another rescue! My family and I love Angels Among Us!
I have been trying to work with AAU since 5-7-17, my on-line application was approved on that day with a follow-up phone call. Today is 6-22-17 and I'm still searching. I don't know what happened. I found, I thought, my dog, but I was refused by the foster because of the reason she said she was going to keep the dog. Then I got a phone call about two weeks later from the same foster and she said that fostering the dog didn't work out and I said "are you trying to tell me I can have the dog" and she said" no" I'm tryng to tell you that you can't have the dog because you don't have kids" I again was heartbroken over the same dog two weeks later. I asked her why did you call me I was told 2 week before i couldn't have the dog, and I'm heart broken all over again. This is not right. I was nice about It but I did tell her I thought she was wrong but she had the power and I wish she had not called me all over again about the same dog. Well it wasn't five minuets later I get a text from the foster of the second dog I had wanted and she told me she let someone else have the dog because she was going out of town and the dog had to be gone by that Saturday and they were willing to take him right then, medical problems and all. So I lost that one too.
So I saw a set of three boy pups that I wanted to see all at the same time to see their personalities. So we set up a time, the foster didn't make it. We set up another appt.(everything was at and on her schedule) so I ran around town until she could meet with me . So I finally got to see them and I told her I wanted to see the most docile, quiet, and calm one. She showed me that one and I held it, it actually crawled around my neck and them went to sleep in my lap. She also showed me another one and she actually" said that pup was "hell on wheels" so I told her I wanted the one I had, the one I was holding, the docile one, and we made a appt. for me to get the dog. She said the dog was not mine until I paid for it so I gave her my credit card. I paid so this particular dog was now mine. She brought me the dog and did the home check and they left. I had everything a pup could want to be happy. The dog actually turned out to be a 4 lb., CUJO. So I got to thinking!!! I looked on the paperwork and medicine she left and she actually gave me the WRONG DOG!!! She gave me the dog she had told me that was "hell on wheels" . She knew what she had done too . She wanted to get rid of that dog so she gave it to me. So I lost out on my dog that I told her I wanted, the third time, because that was a way to get rid of the "CUJO". She did it intentional and never denied it. That is what "most Foster" do , WHATEVER THEY WANT TO DO, NOT WANT IS APPROPRIATE OR WHAT ADOPTOR ASK FOR! I HAVE BEEN PUT THROUGH HELL AND BACK AGAIN. THE ONLY WAY IT WILL GO GOOD IS IF YOU GO TO THE EVENT'S, WHICH I DID, AND ADOPT ON THE SPOT!! AND THEN I'M NOT SO SURE IT WILL GO GOOD THEN. THIS HAS BEEN AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE FOR ME, I HAVE BEEN LIED TO MORE TIMES THAN I CAN COUNT,-- APPTS. HAVE BEEN SET UP AND THE FOSTER DON'T SHOW UP BECAUSE THEIR FAMILY LIFE GETS IN THE WAY, IF YOU ARE PREPARED TO GO THROUGH WHAT I WENT THRU ----GO FOR IT!!!! BUT I WILL NEVER, NEVER GO AROUND THEM AGAIN, OR REALLY WHAT THEY NEED ARE DONATONS. IT SHOULD BE ABOUT THE ANIMALS BUT SOMEHOW THAT HAS GOTTEN LOST!!!! IT'S ABOUT THE FOSTERS!!!! SOMEONE HIGHER UP NEEDS TO READ THIS AND AT LEAST LOOK INTO IT!!! upiI didn't have kids, I found another, I thought my dog, it had some medical problems, I wanted to think about it and by then the foster called me and said she had given the dog to someone else because she had to leave town by that Saturday and the dog had to be gone.
Angels gave me the love of my life and I will love them forever in return. Thank you my my sweet Aly
Angels led me to my sweet Max. He was thrown out of a moving car with his 2 siblings and Angels saved him. My life would not be the same without them or my little man!
I am a donor and volunteer for Angels Among Us and recently fostered a wonderful Cocker Spaniel named Becker a few months ago. Angels saved this little one and rehabilitated this loving dog that would have most certainly been euthanized without their help. This Rescue is devoted to saving as many animals in need as they possilbly can, and all walk the talk here working tirelessly to accomplish their mission. A charity very worthy of your donations and time.
March 20, 2016, I offered to foster a little dog that had been found in an apartment complex and that had been attacked by two larger dogs. His intestines were exposed and he was in horrific pain, with puncture wounds all over his tiny body, but he was still alive. Animal control had no means to help this little dog and called Angels Among Us Pet Rescue to help. Angels took him to an emergency veterinarian, where he had his spleen removed, lost part of his intestines and where it was learned that he lacerated a kidney. 8 days later, I brought him home with me to recover. He was frail, and barely eating, but once he realized that he was safe, and in a loving home, his recovery was swift and 31 days later, little Geoff was adopted by an amazing family with 3 children who love him dearly. I have fostered 17 dogs for Angels over almost 4 years and he was one of the sweetest, most loving creatures I've had the pleasure to help. What an incredible organization Angels is to be able to help a dog who had no chance without the support of donors and fosters. Wouldn't trade this job for anything!
I have had a wonderful experience with Angels Among Us Pet Rescue.
I have volunteered with Angels Among Us for a little over three years. Half of that time was fostering. I had to stop fostering when I "foster failed" aka adopted my foster and I am now at my limit on animals (3 cats)... For now that is.
I have been treated with kindness and respect. If I have a question, it is answered quickly and completely. It is a privilege to be part of such a wonderful organization that cares so much about animals.
Angels Among Us is an amazing group. They operate solely on donations and exclusively use foster homes for their cats and dogs, yet they manage to rescue hundreds of animals a year. The volunteers are a great group of people brought together by their love of animals, and they always put the animals first. AAUS has kittens, puppies, cats and dogs available for adoption year round, cared for in loving foster homes until the perfect adopters are found. And AAUS will rescue animals other groups won't take because they're 'less adoptable', either due to age, handicap or medical condition. These animals have the same chance at a loving home as adorable puppies and kittens, thanks to AAUS. The adoption process is thorough but reasonable, and the foster parents participate so potential adopters can learn all about the animal before they adopt. I adopted two cats from AAUS over a year ago, and I'm so glad to have them as part of my family. I love this group so much, I volunteer with them now! Check out the photos of my current foster kitties, Katerina and Lexi. If you're interested in adopting a kitten, puppy, cat or dog, check out AAUS. You won't be disappointed.
This nonprofit animal rescue is full of dedicated animal lovers who are incredibly passionate and driven. They rely on donations to be able to save the hundreds of animals they do. Angels takes on animals other rescues turn away, scary medical cases from horrific abuse and animals with no hope. Help them with their mission of ending animal abuse, homelessness and the need for kill shelters in GA.
I started volunteering with AAU over a year ago and my experience has been wonderful! I have a huge spot in my heart for animals. We must be the voice for those who can not advocate for themselves. AAU does a great job of training their volunteers, publicizing their available pets, and most of all giving their dogs and cats the love, medical care, and training they need to be adopted. Rescue organizations need so many types of volunteers to be successful. AAU does a great job of trying to fit a team opening with a volunteer's schedule, so they can be successful in their position. Working with volunteer director Susan DuBois has been a great experience. I'm so glad I've been a (small) part of the organization that has saved 10,000+ dogs and cats lives throughout the state of Georgia.
I just wish there were six stars! This is a phenomenal foster-based animal rescue organization. While the numbers rescued are now in the thousands, it's really the quality of care (and true love & commitment) that separates this organization and its volunteers from the rest. AAUPR doesn't just skim the "easy to adopt" animals out of shelters. It takes more difficult cases, as well...animals that would certainly be "put down", due to age, abuse, injury, and uncontrolled illness. It's an equal opportunity saver! In fact, I became aware of AAUPR through a Facebook post, asking for contributions for a kitten named Devin. Devin had been tossed from a moving car and his back legs were paralyzed! Devin was saved and now, lives a full life with a tender-hearted Dad and a vet Mom! As the cat leader at AAUPR reminds us, "There is a lid for every pot!" Thus, there is a family for every pet!
The men and women who volunteer and foster are truly outstanding. Their love and commitment to the animals they rescue is unmatched. Their integrity (and thus that of the organization) is unparalleled. They are mindful stewards of the donations they receive.
I now foster while I "winter" near Atlanta each year. What an incredible experience that has been! I also contribute each month. I choose to give more to AAUPR than any other organization, other than my church. I absolutely know that AAUPR leaders are exceptional stewards of donations!!!
Fostering cats has truly changed my life for the better. Although disabled, I've found something to make a positive & meaningful difference in this world. I'm wrapping up my second "winter" and fostering my fourth kitty. I have four personals, as well! Although I've had cats my entire life, the other fosters have a wealth of practical experience and advice, and have taught me so much. That's the beauty of fostering for AAUPR. Although diverse, we simply share a passion and a commitment to these animals. I've gained several dozen new friends.
Let me personally thank you for your interest in our rescue. And I am grateful for whatever means of participation you may choose.
I started following Angels Among Us Pet Rescue on Facebook back in the Spring of 2014. During that Summer, the rescue group acquired an abused kitten named Devin. His story touched my heart so I decided to donate for his care. That is what started my unwavering support of this wonderful organization. I was so amazed by the love and care that AAUPR put into this sweet little kitty. Not long after they got Devin, a few other special needs kitties came into AAU's program. Devin's foster mom made a Facebook page just for Devin and all of his new friends. She was always so good at giving the followers daily updates on how they were all doing. When some of the new kittens were able to be put up for adoption, I applied for one of them (Kamilla). When I went to pick her up, I knew that I wanted a kitty friend for her. It was just a matter of picking one out. I ended up choosing one of Kamilla's housemates (Dot). Kamilla's foster mom is an amazing woman and AAUPR is very lucky to have her. She puts so much into the cats. She takes the hurt, abused, and special needs ones, and rehabilitates them so that they can have a good life. I will forever be grateful to her for my two sweeties. There are lots of good people within AAUPR. They all work tirelessly for the good of the fur-babies. I appreciate what they do for the animals, and I will continue to support their efforts.
We were always animal people. Broken animals found us and we got them healthy and found them homes. One day at the vet, doing just that, we saw the flyer that changed our lives. "Foster Homes Needed". We had no idea there was an organization of people just like us. We made the call and within a week were fostering two cats. That was 4 years ago. Since then, we have fostered around 200 cats and a few dogs. We added three new furry family members. We volunteered in more ways and we made lifelong friends along the way. Angels Among Us is an amazing rescue. They don't leave family behind. They don't choose certain breeds. They take animals with major medical issues. They care so much about the cats & dogs in their care. And there are a lot of truly amazing people who save lives each and every day. I recommend them wholeheartedly for anyone who wants to adopt, foster, or volunteer.
Almost 4 years ago I saved my first homeless pet. I was searching for an organization to join where I could work to save many more animals. I happened upon Angels Among Us Pet Rescue simply by choosing the first rescue from a list of rescues published in Murray County. At first, my wife thought I was crazy but decided to humor my compulsion. The first thing I noticed in this wonderful organization was the cohesion of effort and community associated with all the volunteers. There was absolutely no judgment. We only witnessed kind words, expressions of appreciation and offers of friendship. The central focus was the mission of saving one more life and continuing until there were no more lives to save. I have met some of the most charitable and kindest individuals within the Angels organization. I am absolutely amazed at the level of coordination and cooperation that emerged from 2 ladies that one day had the idea of going to some shelters and saving some dogs. Today, this organization has grown to more than 800 volunteers including 450 active foster homes. It is my absolute honor to be associated with this organization and my wife and I decided to make it a full time commitment a little over a year now as we exited our careers of more than 3 decades to save more lives. I am so proud of my wife, Mary, as she is the team lead over spay/neuter. If you want to be a good person then surround yourself by good people. The members of Angels Among Us Pet Rescue are the BEST PEOPLE!!
Three years ago I wasn't even thinking about animal rescue. I was a career Engineer/Scientist who worked with my wife of 34 years. I was introduced to Angels Among Us Pet Rescue. I started out as a foster and quickly developed the appetite to save lives. I wanted to make sure that the mission of this organization was to save lives and not make a political statement. After working with these wonderful people I realized that I wanted to be a better person as so many volunteers here demonstrated such selfless desires to make a difference. I convinced my wife to get involved. After 3 years in the organization, my wife and I decided to retire early to devote more time to making a difference in the fight for no-kill Georgia. Angels Among Us is truly an amazing organization that provides the opportunity to surround yourself with just the most amazing people for all walks of life. I was presented this year with the highest honor to serve as a Board member and I'm so proud of my wife who devotes most of her time to spay/neuter. I so appreciate all of the wonderful people in this organization who give so much without any expectation of return. They do it for the animals!!
Angels Among Us Pet Rescue is one of the most dedicated, honest, and hard working group of animal rescue volunteers I have ever come across. They work tirelessly to save, rehabilite, foster, and adopt to forever homes 24/7. They care so much about saving these lives amd ending senseless animal suffering. 90% of every donor dollar goes to the animals care, and as a donor, I receive actual thank you letters. They are truly deserving of Gold rating.
The smell of urine and feces in the enclosed cement building was so strong that I had to cover my mouth to stop from gagging. It was June 7, 2013, and dozens of dogs were scheduled to be euthanized in this one Georgia shelter. I sobbed as I walked the line, realizing that so many innocent lives would be lost, all due to no fault of their own.
I tried my best to find Jake. Yes, I had come to transport one dog, but I wanted to save them all. When I found him, he was the only animal in that overcrowded facility that was not barking or jumping to gain my attention. In fact, he stood sheepishly in his small cage with a worried face, an anxiously wagging tail, and uncontrollable body tremors. He was terrified.
Little did I realize at that moment that Jake’s stress was only partially from being at the shelter. After greeting him, I reached gently into his kennel to secure a slip leash around his furry neck. Upon seeing my motion, Jake closed his eyes, flinched, dropped to the floor and froze in anticipation of being hit or kicked.
This furry, gentle giant had clearly been abused.
It was at that moment that I knew Jake would never leave my side unless he wanted to. Humanity had failed him, but I would not. I resolved to build trust with him and work at whatever pace he needed. His submissive nature had clearly been taken advantage of. Despite repeated beatings, he showed no aggression; just a desire to trust, but fear was holding him back.
Little milestones to the average pet owner became huge victories for us. It took three long hours for me to encourage him to shimmy out of the shelter on his fanny, with me sitting beside him every step of the way. It took four months to get a real leash on him. He refused to go through doorways for more than a year, swam out of rooms at the sight of humans, and remains terrified of loud noises and sudden movements. But, he never stopped smiling, and his tail wagged at all times, which gave us hope.
To many, Jake may be "damaged goods." To us, he was a hero. In an era of instant gratification, it was very hard for our children to understand why he was so fearful to bond with them when they had so much love to offer.
Fortunately, Jake has taught our children a crucial life lesson; that all good things DO come to those who wait, and through their careful approaches and unwavering patience, they now have a true soul dog. Jake's greatest joy is waking the girls up each morning and putting them to bed at night. He loves the bus stop, car rides, and his fur sister, Luna, our other rescue dog, who is balanced and we feel has also helped to rehabilitate him.
To think that Jake could have died that day is more than we can bear. He lives today because a rescue named ANGELS AMONG US didn't allow his past history to become his future destiny. His time was running out. Angels was willing to do whatever was necessary, medically or with positive training and rehabilitation, to restore both physical and emotional wellness. They are an organization that doesn't discriminate based on breed, background, or medical malady. This is a rescue that gives animals who would otherwise have no second chance a completely new destiny.
To know that Jake FINALLY knows love; well, that’s truly extraordinary. We will forever be indebted to Angels Among Us for saving not only his life, but more than 10,000 others.
I love this rescue!! Why? There is no breed, color, health, age discrimination. They save the sick, injured, old, different "breeds" and even the overlooked black animals. They also believe in "no family left behind". Many other rescues save the puppies but will leave the mom or save the purebred but will leave the mixed breed family sibling. They will walk away from the parvo pups, pregnant moms, the dogs that have been hit by a car, the heartworm positives or the abused BUT not angels!! They help the ones who need it the most! I also love that they are a foster home based group so most animals get to live in a home before they are adopted. They saved my puppy from a high kill shelter. She was diagnosed with parvo and they made sure she went to top doctors and she received the best medical attention. I know this was not cheap but they didn't care. They made sure she made a quick recovery. She is my baby. We love her to death! They have saved over 10,000 LIVES! So many beating hearts because of them. So many happy families because of them!
I adopted my furbaby from Angels Among Us Pet Rescue in 2011. What makes them different from the rest is that they will save lives that others won't. They never leave family behind in shelters, while some other rescues just take the cute puppies and leave the momma. They don't care if a dog tests positive for heartworms, because they will treat them no matter what the cost. Parvo & pneumonia are common in the shelters, but that never deters AAUPR.
I've learned so much from the ANGELS. I've been following on facebook since 2014 and they have amazed me everyday. I've seen so many dogs go from being in a kill shelter in horrid condition be SAVED by ANGELS. I've seen the dogs when they make their FREEDOM RIDE, I've seen them at the vet if they have serious problems, and I've seen at adoption events and best of all all well happy and headed to their furever home. ANGELS AMONG US PET RESCUE has opened my eyes to abuse, kill shelters, and all involved with rescuing these precious souls. I spend whole days on their fb page networking these dogs to get them in a new better and happier life and I'm loving every minute of it. They have made me a better person. I LOVE ANGELS. adoption
I started following Angels Among Us on Facebook when I was ready to adopt a dog. I found the perfect dog for my family and shortly after adopting her, I began volunteering with Angels. I know that my monetary donations to Angels Among Us literally save lives. It is a pleasure to write Angels Among Us a check every month.
Angels helped us find our first baby. We love our puppy so much and we don't know what we would do without her. We loved our experience with angels so much we are currently looking for a kitten from them.
The love of my life, my second soul dog. His life made possible by Angels Among Us Pet Rescue. He was on his last night in the shelter. A six month old puppy with a broken leg and nerve damage too. Angels saved him and I had the joy of fostering then adopting him. Angels saves so many dogs that other rescues cannot or will not. The old ones, the sick ones, the ones that are pregnant or just had puppies. Young or old, big or small, sick or healthy, Angels saves them all.
We adopted our family's first dog almost 4 years ago. He, along with his littermates and mother were being fostered. All were rescued by Angels Among Us. Our dog Jake has been the best addition to our family. We couldn't imagine him not being a part of our family! AAU makes it possible to give sheltered mothers with pups a chance at life and forever homes. In many cases, these are the first to be euthanized in shelters because of sickness and care expense. We are grateful that AAU cares enough to rescue animals, no matter what the cost, in order to give them a better life. We are grateful.
Both of our current pets are dogs rescued by Angels Among Us Pet Rescue, and we can't imagine our life without them. It's sad and scary to think that hundreds of highly-adoptable animals are euthanized every year in shelters just in the state of Georgia. I commend AAU, which is managed by 98% volunteers, for their lifesaving efforts.
We foster dogs and cats for Angels Among Us, and have adopted some of our fosters. The entire family enjoys the fostering experience, and we adore our new furry family members.
This is a wonderful group of people that have turned their concerns into actions. They go the extra mile every time for these animals.
I have been involved with Angels Among Us Pet Rescue in many capacities - adopter, foster home, transport, donor, and behind the scenes volunteer. They are an amazing rescue, taking dogs and cats that would otherwise be thrown away - the seniors, the sick, the neglected - and giving them foster homes until a permanent home can be found. They also rescue pregnant moms, dogs whose parents pass away, and dogs from high-kill rural shelters, often saving their lives at the last moment. To date, they have rescued over 9000 dogs!
They have a huge team of volunteers to coordinate the efforts, and I am proud to play a small part. AAU has a well-deserved reputation in the Atlanta area as a top-notch rescue. Don't hesitate to get involved in any way you can - it feels great to save a life!
