Causes: Child Abuse Prevention, Children & Youth, Crime & Law, Domestic Violence, Human Services, Sexual Abuse Prevention, Youth Community Service Clubs

Mission: INTRO: Each week, the equivalent of a classroom of American children is lost forever due to child abuse, maltreatment, and neglect. American Society for the Positive Care of Children was founded in 2011 as a 501(c) 3 nonprofit charity from the strong desire of one caring individual to make a difference in the lives of abused children in America. American SPCC is devoted to building an active, caring community advocating for American children and helping raise public awareness of the epidemic of child abuse, neglect, maltreatment, and exploitation. Together with our community of supporters, we give a voice to the ‘voiceless’ — the abused, neglected, and marginalized children of America. We provide a platform to facilitate social change and a shift in cultural beliefs relating to all areas of child maltreatment. Ultimately, helping to build a happier, safer world for children and a more peaceful world for everyone. Our extensive reservoir of information and help resources is invaluable to those in need, seeking help with child abuse, neglect, exploitation and maltreatment of children, bullying, cyberbullying, positive parenting, Shaken Baby Syndrome, and more. Please join us in our mission, as we speak up for children, because they can’t. VISION: We envision a society free of child abuse that promotes the positive care of children and youth and effectively addresses the epidemic of child abuse. MISSION: We empower a network of individuals and organizations dedicated to the positive physical, emotional, and intellectual development of children and youth in the United States.

Results: With limited resources, we have successfully... * Developed an active multi-member Youth Advisory Board, and empowered youth leadership roles focused on the many areas of child abuse and child-abuse-related issues. * Developed and initiated a grassroots movement of youth ambassadors promoting youth engagement, social and digital activism building greater public awareness of child abuse. * Developed a community service/work hours’ program for students engaged in American SPCC awareness programs, activities, and campaigns. * Hosted our 1st (very successful) annual Youth Forum live event in Portland, OR, November 2014 - "Listening to Youth-Driven Solutions." * Commenced planning and preparing for our 2nd annual Youth Forum live event in November, 2015. * Continued development and expansion of American SPCC's website offering online informational resource for child abuse, bullying, children's rights, and positive parenting. * Commenced the development of our ‘THINK’ initiative. A branded Public Service Announcement online and social media child abuse awareness program. * Increased public awareness of child abuse through our social media and online outreach campaigns, and built a larger (and growing) supportive community. * Created and successfully executed 2014 #givingtuesday and year-end fundraising campaigns, and planning for 2015. * Revised the organization’s overall five-year Strategic Plan, and developed our 2015 Annual Operating Plan, guiding our growth, managing our priorities, assigning our responsibilities, tracking our progress, and planning for cash, which will ensure the overall success and accomplishment of short-term and long-term goals.

American SPCC is an invaluable resource for stressed parents who need parenting education and access to supportive parenting resources. I have also been very impressed by the events and programs that their staff and volunteer youth have created in the past year: These have empowered youth to engage in activities of their choice that prevent/reduce child abuse and tangibly improve the lives of youth in their communities.

A friend has been showing me the American/SPCC posts for the last few months. I've been impressed with their commitment to being a champion for kids and their rights. As a mom, I know firsthand how important it is for children to have advocates as well as positive role models. Their vision truly aligns with mine.

ASPCC does a great job of putting the youth voice first - empowering the youth and letting their work shine. Its refreshing to see an organization that doesn't take the youth voice and use it for themselves, instead they let youth have their voice - especially when it is our youth who are effected.

American SPCC is a vital resource to help empower us as individuals and communities in creating positive changes for our children. Child neglect, abuse and suffering in this country and throughout the world needs to stop. American SPCC is where children's voices can be heard, positive changes happen and education on abuse prevention is paramount. American SPCC provides up to date facts on important issues such as physical and emotional health, child protection education and much more. It has been a pleasure volunteering for this great organization. I have personally benefited from both volunteering and learning how to better help our children. Please join us! American SPCC

I am a policy specialist and have served as a consultant for American SPCC for the last several months. I can report that American SPCC offers numerous avenues for those interested in the welfare of children, adolescents, and older youth to at once get involved and be part of the solution. American SPCC prioritizes the perspectives of young people, and I particularly appreciate the student advocacy model and toolkit that this nonprofit provides for students to assist them with identifying and advocating on behalf of the child welfare issues that matter most to them. American SPCC has both a national vision and a very hands-on ground effort working closely to assist and support child welfare advocates in the Portland, Oregon, community. This is a small nonprofit that has tremendous potential for growth.
