A great facility with many dogs to choose from. They spend a lot of time and money to make sure all dogs have the proper medical care.
I wanted a greyhound for many years and was just waiting for the right time to be able to make a commitment to one of these amazing hounds. I contacted Carl at AAGA and one of the most wonderful journeys of my life has begun. Carl "knows it all" when it comes to greyhounds and he loves each and every one of them! He was so patient with me. I had so many questions and was worse than a first time mom when it came to calling him for every little thing! I adopted a sweet black greyhound named Boo and life will never be the same. I cannot say enough incredible things about Carl, AAGA, his volunteers and staff. Thank you so much for enriching my life.
I have adopted 2 greyhounds from this wonderful organization. Carl is most knowledgeable about the breed and cares about each and every dog and it's new owner. I am proud to know that I can call this adoption agency and have any and all questions answered by a true professional. This organization survived a fire in early spring and never once did they stop finding homes for greyhounds, boarding greys for people needing it or taking care of injured or returned dogs. I now volunteer for the agency and am proud to be able to give back to this wonderful organization.
I've been lucky enough to adopt dogs from Adopt a Greyhound Atlanta for more than 20 years now. The amount of care and love they receive once in AAGA's remarkable hands is extraordinary. AAGA's devotion to rescuing these amazing, loving dogs is tireless. I feel so lucky to have encountered Carl and AAGA when I adopted my very first retired racing greyhound, and its a relationship I treasure.
I have volunteered for Adopt A Greyhound Atlanta for the past 8 years. I am so impressed by this organization's commitment to the health and welfare of this wonderful breed. The founder (Carl) has dedicated his life to finding loving homes for these retired racers. The adoption process is handled in a very professional way and adopters are provided with an abundance of information and support.
Over the past 8 years I have volunteered for Adopt A Greyhound Atlanta, Inc. and personally adopted 5 AAGA Greyhounds. I have found Carl to be very dedicated to his lifelong mission of finding "forever" homes for retired racers. I have never seen him take so much as one sick day or one vacation day. Following the devastating fire the organization experienced earlier this year that destroyed 90% of the facility including Carl's home, he refused to be separated from his beloved Greys. Instead, he moved with the dogs into a 750-square-foot building that survived the fire and, despite the cramped, crowded quarters, has continued throughout reconstruction to find homes for this amazing breed.
I have been adopting Greyhounds from this organization for over 30 years and will continue to do so in the future.
These folks do a great service to a truly wonderful breed! We had never considered a Greyhound, because we just really never saw them around and didn't know much about them. We met Carl and a lot of other volunteers, who brought a group of Greyhounds to a meet and greet in front of PetSmart. We asked some questions, went home and did research, and decided that a Greyhound was right for our family. I love the care in the selection process that this organization takes. They don't adopt dogs out to just anyone, but rather interview and follow up after adoption to make sure these wonderful dogs get the love and retired life they deserve. I've also seen them help finding list Greyhounds and rescue them from kill shelters, in addition to helping them retire gracefully. What a terrific cause!
I love spending time with the new greyhounds. Everyone is so nice. I have adopted 2 greyhounds from Carl. He has always been helpful if I have any issues or questions. My boys love visiting Grey's Land. Any chance that they get and Carl is always welcoming and happy to see them. I always enjoy Carl's sense of humor - Carl calls me L. Ron. You can always tell that Carl knows the personalities of every dog even though they've only been off the truck a day. I would recommend Adopt A Greyhound Atlanta.
I have adopted 2 Greyhounds from Adopt a Greyhound Atlanta and I board my greyhound there on a regular basis. These dogs will change your life and I will continue to acquire any future couch potatoes form Adopt a Greyhound Atlanta!
Adopt A Greyhound Atlanta has been the first stop for over 5200 greyhounds before finding their forever homes. I have been volunteering with AAGA for almost two years, and have adopted three dogs from the group. Being a volunteer with this group is very rewarding and is a great opportunity to make great friends. Volunteering, for me, has entailed meet 'n greets, helping with adoptions, and receiving the dogs off of the truck from the track. To see a dog transform from how it came off of the track to a loyal and loving housepet is by far the most enjoyable part of being associated with the group. I would highly recommend AAGA due to the great work that they do to help adopt out this fabulous breed of dog!
I have had 4 greyhounds so far, all from Adopt A Greyhound Atlanta. I will have greyhounds for the rest of my life and will not go anywhere but Carl. Carl has saved thousands of dogs over the years, he is an subject matter expert and you can tell how much he loves and cares for these dogs. Carl gets to know the dogs he is putting up for adoption and then lets you and the dog choose each other. He doesn't force any particular dog just to have it adopted. It is a process and often takes time. In addition, if the dog you choose isn't your dog, he'll work with you until you find him or her. It is also good to know that you can send your dogs to Carl for boarding, where they are safe and with someone who understands them.
I have been adopting retired racing Greyhounds from Adopt A Greyhound Atlanta since 1994. We now have our 7th and 8th Greyhounds in our home. We have been the proud parents of Freddie, Gene, Wally, Dancer, Pop, May, and are currently the parents of Bully and Daphne. Carl Viener, Founder of Adopt A Greyhound Atlanta has given most of his adult life, 24/7, 365 days per year, no vacations, no breaks to these beautiful dogs. He is the most dedicated and selfless rescue person I have ever met since he has adopted over 5,000 Greyhounds, utilizing the help of only a handful of volunteers over the years.
Our adoption experiences have always been good; we totally appreciated his personal knowledge of each Greyhound and their personality in helping us choose the right one for us. All of our Greyhounds have been healthy and well cared for in the time between arriving from their racing environment and being adopted. Carl truly loves this breed and it shows.
I would like to close by saying that Carl runs this 501c3 on a shoestring budget and lives extremely bare-bones for himself in order to accommodate the Greyhounds -- they always come first.
AAGA and Carl Viner have found homes for over 5200 retired greyhounds. Without his great work, most of these wonderful dogs would have been killed. We've adopted two of his dogs and have found them to be relaxed, affectionate, sometimes funny, and always loving pets. But most of all, Carl does it all out of his own pocket and the meager donations of friends.
My third Greyhound came from Carl. I spent quite a bit of time with him selecting my Scarlett. His house is 'the dogs house" Clean, Comfortable and Safe for the babies. The grounds outside are fantastic for all the pups...the entire grounds are double fenced for the protection of the dogs, with two security gates at the entrance. I took Scarlett back to visit when ever I was out of town and she always wanted to go back for more visits...when we got close to the gate #1 she would get so excited I had to keep the windows closed so she didn't jump out of the car. When I got my second Greyhound, Tripp, I was a little unsure, as was Carl, as to how he would adjust to my house. As it turned out, after two months, I knew it would not work, and Carl was concerned also..I took Tripp back and Carl found just the right home for him. Carl is all about the dogs...very selective as to who gets his rescued babies. Greyhounds are #1 in Carls life and thanks be to God that he has rescued so many and found great homes for 'His Babies'.
Carl does amazing work for a great cause. My wife was very skeptical about getting a Greyhound as a small home pet but Carl spoke with her and changed her mind. Carl connected us with our Retired Racer Holly. She has changed our lives in so many ways.
We adopted Batty from Adopt a Greyhound Atlanta. Carl knew whic dog liked what. One didn't like stairs, one didn't like cats, etc. Carl's knowledge of the dogs that they had was detailed, and every situation was addressed. I will forever be greatful to Adopt a Greyhound Atlanta.
