We volunteer with this organization. Very organized, we were screened beforehand, and we continue to get support as we puppy raise. Love being a small part of the work they do!
We received a service dog for our young son with Autism a year and a half ago. Before we got Reese Ryan had awful anxiety, hated going to school, and could not sleep through the night. After we got Reese his whole world changed. Ryan loves going to school with Reese by his side. He is able to get through a dentist appointment, doctors visits, and his anxiety has decreased tremendously.
I cannot say enough about 4 Paws. Karen, the CEO, ALWAYS answers the cell should you need her. We called early am to ask whether we should take the dog to the emergency vet and she patiently listened while we explained what was happening and told us what to do and what to look for. The staff truly cares about the dogs and the families. We stay in touch with Reese's trainers and college handlers and have visited 4 Paws on occasion since we received him.
We spent two weeks at 4 Paws for training and were able to tour the facility and meet the staff that cares for the animals. We were so impressed with every aspect of the dogs care and loved visiting the puppy house.
I cannot say enough about the organization or the people that work there. We feel very fortunate to be a part of this family.
Our daughter was just placed with her Multipurpose Service Dog last month and we are so impressed with how well he is trained to meet her individual needs! Her dog helps her with balance, retrieves dropped items, turns on/off lights, hits handicap and elevator buttons, alerts when she passes out and does deep pressure, and does behavior disruption during anxiety attacks. He has given her independence again! Before she was placed with her dog we were puppy raisers for 4 Paws and were so impressed with the staff and other volunteers. The dogs are so well taken care of and loved!
Several months ago we heard about a need for foster families for service dogs in training from 4 Paws for Ability. The fosters are required to socialize the dogs and take them everywhere someone with a service dog might go. My niece was waiting to get her own dog, so we knew how important it was for the pups to be properly trained. We decided to apply. We were sitting in the facility for my niece's service dog graduation when we got an email saying they had a dog that needed a family for a few months. We had no idea we would be bringing a dog home that day, but when we met Armani, we knew we could not say no. While we were waiting in the lobby for our supplies, we were so impressed at how the trainers, volunteers and other employees would come up to Armani, and we were even more impressed at how excited he was to see them. It was obvious that the 4 Paws staff was wonderful to these dogs. After the 3 months of fostering him, we took him back to be evaluated and found out he would be placed in advanced training and be specifically trained to help a child or a veteran. 4 Paws for Ability provides everything a foster family needs to care for the pups while they have them, so we are not responsible to pay for anything. The money from this contest could help them care for and train more dogs for those who really need them.
Review from #MyGivingStory
What an unbelievable organization! My son received his service dog from 4 paws in March of this year. We were impressed throughout the process including fundraising but after arriving and going through the training process we were floored at how this organization was run. The staff is amazing and helpful. The training program was top of the line. I felt that I was prepared to properly handle my service dog and educated on all things necessary to be a service dog handler. Our dog is so well behaved and his training is remarkable. He has made such a difference in our lives already. We look forward to the years to come and would HIGHLY recommend 4 Paws for Ability!!
Unsure about their ethics. They waited until they had my $50 app fee to tell me that it would be about 3 years total to get a dog, despite several correspondence before I sent the check. When I asked why they did not disclose the wait time, the response was "You didn't ask". They refuse to refund the money. They may or may not intentionally be deceitful, could just be sloppy and poor ethic skills. Just be aware of the possible wait time and try to think of any questions you might not even know to ask. I'm sure their dogs are probably fantastic, but not too sure about this organizations ethics.

I’ve volunteered onsite, and fostered through their college program. I can’t speak highly enough of 4 paws. They create a community and family that is so special and spreads love and goodness to everyone involved. No matter how you fit into 4 paws, you know you are a part of something that is doing great things that benefit so many people.
4 Paws for ability has given me a new purpose as my daughters are now in college and I had lost my avenue for volunteering. I have met several nice people and witnessed goodness occurring in this world.
Volunteered with their college and traditional fostering program, housed a breeding dog & volunteered onsite at 4 paws. Participated in fundraising for individual dogs + a sponsored litter of puppies.
4 PAWS for Ability is awesome! 4 PAWS is a community who is available to their volunteers and clients 24/7! They provide Service Dogs to children and vets, and when you decide to go with them, you become part of the 4 PAWS family!
My son was just placed in a class for a multi purpose service dog for his autism, TORRETTEs, IED, OCD, ADHD, and severe anxiety. This is a wonderful non profit organization who helps children with all different types of disorders regardless of age. They even help Vets in need. I would not recommend any other agency. They have provided a safe place for parents and children to talk, share, and listen. One big happy family! I also recently decided to give back by volunteering and fostering a future 4 PAWS SD.
I cannot talks enough for the 4paws magic ! Thanks to 4paws for ability for a peace of mind! Everyone does a great job! Class V July 2018!!
My brother met his service dog last month and to say she has been life-changing for him and our family would be understatement! 4 Paws is obviously filled with people who care and who pour love into the training the dogs need to change lives so dramatically and so quickly ❤️
My husband and I have only been volunteering with 4 Paws since the beginning of 2018, but quickly fell in love with the program, as a foster family, puppy sitter and on-site volunteer. Watching the dogs being matched never fails to bring tears to our eyes and I'm still amazed at the dogs' abilities. The hard-working full time team never seem to complain of the long hours and weekends spent with the constant flow of people and dogs coming in and out of the 4 Paws facility. I have no problem donating my time and money to this wonderful nonprofit.
My daughter got her service dog, O'Malley, last year. He is literally a life saver. He gives her the ability to explore the world safely, and gives us peace of mind. When you join the 4 Paws family, you get just that...a family. You connect with other parents who "get it," who have been through similar experiences. Some of my best friends are other moms I've met through 4 Paws. And 4 Paws' involvement doesn't end when you take your service dog home, either. You can call the trainers any time if you have questions. I can't recommend 4 Paws enough.
4 paws is literally a life saver. Their service dogs are amazing as are the staff.
We have recently completed our fundraising and are waiting for our service dog match and class in 2020 for our almost 3 yr old daughter Leo. She has Dandy Walker Syndrome which has caused her to be globally delayed. She will need a multi-function service dog but primarily for mobility as she does not walk at this point. 4 Paws has been wonderful throughout the entire process thus far. Their communication is top notch which has been important to us. A very transparent organization as well in regard to financials, policies, practices, etc. We are extremely happy with our decision to have chosen 4 Paws for Ability.
I have been volunteering for 4 paws for a few years now and all I can say is how amazing the relationships formed are. The relationships are not only between families and 4 paws but the network between families, employees and volunteers. This organization is not just an organization, but a community and does great things together❤
I love 4 Paws and what they stand for. I was introduced to 4 Paws when I was at WSU and needed to complete volunteer hours for a class, I was accepted in and did socializing. A few years past and I got this chance to work as a kennel staff member and that’s when I truly fell in love with the dogs and what these dogs do for people. I now foster SDIT and can’t wait to see them graduate and become the SD they are meant to be. I love advocating for 4 Paws and informing people about service dogs.
We got our son's service dog from 4 paws 4 years ago. We have never been sorry. She is expertly trained and an asset to our lives. We have remained active in the 4 Paws community and have adopted a dog who was released from their program due to a medical problem. We knew he would be a good fit because of our satisfaction with our first dog.
I volunteer with 4 Paws for Ability and I have learned in the short time I’ve been there that they are a very tight-knit community. I’ve met lots of new friends and seen how these dogs impact lives from the moment they are born.
4 Paws for Ability has not only changed my life as a puppy raiser, but has changed thousands of lives, including the 1,350 children and veterans who have received service dogs from 4 Paws. I’m thankful to be a part of this amazing program
About 3 years ago I moved states and began college at the University of Kentucky. I knew not a single person at this school let alone in Kentucky. I became part of 4 Paws for Ability at UK and began fostering service dogs in training and it has truly changed my life. This program gives individuals with disabilities a second chance at life. 4 Paws for Ability has changed so many individuals with disabilities lives, but this program has also changed my life. This program has taught me respect, patients, time-management, selflessness, and so much more, but above all, this program has taught me to give unconditional love to a service dog in training, keep it for months, and then allow it to move on to do bigger things and know that this dog will do amazing things in an individual with a disabilities life and I was a small part of making that huge process happen. 4 Paws for Ability has helped me become a better person and it is truly one of the most amazing programs!
Having seen the impact of 4Paws for Ability from multiple sides: as a foster puppy raiser; part of a family that raised funds then went through training and now have a placed service dog in our family; to seeing many 4Paws Dogs in action and the highly skilled trainers teaching, the impact of this nonprofit is simply amazing!
These dogs are trained to changes lives and they do everyday! Depending on the strengths of each dog and the needs of the client matches are made and children with autism find a way to take part in the world around them because their dog is at their side. Many dogs are trained in tethering and to track, helping parents whose child tries to run from or hide from the overwhelming stimulations brought on by life.
Those with medical issues have the comfort of assistance and an alerting dog for diabetes or epilepsy. Vets with PTSD have the comforter that help them face their challenges.
All this through a community of well trained staff and a huge volunteer force who believe in the “4Paws Magic,” it make such a difference to everyone involved!
I was introduced to 4 Paws for Ability just over a 2 years ago when a family member was fundraising for a service dog for their son with autism. Now as a volunteer puppy raiser, and with a placed service dog in the family, I have seen the full range of the incredible process and high standards that is 4 Paws for Ability. From intentional breeding of only the very best dogs exhibiting the required traits and strengths, to the socialization that further separates these dogs from others. The advance training and evaluations that match dogs to their forever clients is nothing short of incredible! These dogs are life changing to their placed families, and life changing to the many loving hands that prepare them for their service. I can't speak high enough of 4 Paws for Ability and all they do for those they serve and their precious pups!
We were so blessed by 4 Paws for Ability Inc. Our son received and we trained with his autism assistance service dog in 2005 after we completed our fundraising goal. She was an amazing asset to our son but more so his best friend. The love she provided along with the service made such a difference my sons life. She gave comfort, love, companionship, provided opportunities for socialization while in public and so much more. We had Hannah for 12.5 years (she just recently passed at 13.5 years old.) Our lives were forever touched by this amazing agency and our black lab, Hannah.
Review from Guidestar
I have been a foster in the 4 Paws for Ability University Program for 1 year now and I am about to start my second year. I go to the College of Wooster and one of the main reasons I chose the school was because of 4 Paws for Ability.
Snickerdoodle, a golden lab and golden doodle mix, was the primary dog my house fostered for the year and it was the best year I could have ever had! Not only did Snickerdoodle graduate, but he went to a sweet girl who had medical issues and needed Snickerdoodle to help her live a for fulfilling life.
4 Paws for Ability does monthly meetings for College/University fosters to voice any unusual issues they might be having with their dog and to receive advice on how to fix those issues as well as it gives fosters a chance to ask general questions and receive feedback that could be helpful for other fosters. I bring up these meetings because everytime I went with my foster dog, Lynn Agee, our University Program Coordinator, has been very patient and understanding of our issues and ensures that we are all socializing our dogs in the best environments possible as well as makes sure the dog's health is top priority.
I would like to conclude by saying that every couple meetings I attend at 4 Paws headquarters will include a story of a family whose life has changed because of 4 Paws for Ability. And every time I hear one of those stories, I put all my stress from the homework, tests, and paperwork that 4 Paws for Ability requires us to keep up to date on aside and remind myself that by if I am able to get our foster dog to graduate (which I have already done once and hope to do again next year), I am helping not just the person who needs the dog, but also their family who may be looking after that person.
I thank 4 Paws for Ability for showing me that fostering and socializing a potential service dog is more than just taking it to different places and having the dog meet new people. Foster and socializing a service dog is one step closer to giving a child or veteran with medical disabilities a new chance at living a fulfilling and happy life. I will forever be grateful for having the opportunities that 4 Paws provide in helping achieve this goal.
4 Paws is amazing! They are so helpful and so supportive throughout the entire process of getting one of their life changing service dogs! Very knowledgeable and informative as well. They for sure go above and beyond!
4 paws for ability is such a great organization! I was privileged to foster a puppy for 2 semesters in college and loved every moment of it. I've loved watching the organization grow and hearing the stories of families who receive service dogs. 4 paws is really making a difference all across the country!
Sydney and her 4 Paws best friend Lexus have been together since the June class of 2013. I have never seen such professionalism and the service dogs are absolutely amazing.
My daughter received an Autism Service Dog last year, this wonderful animal can track my daughter by scent if she wanders, provide heavy weight compression when she needs it and also behavior disruption by the dog witnessing a specific (harmful to herself) the Service Dog knows to engage our daughter (nuzzle or paw) asking for attention instead. The quality of training is beyond compare, our family had a trip that required air travel this past week and my daughters service dog was better behaved then the police working dogs.
A great organization doing great work! We have been puppy raisers for 6 months and love the experience!
I have been a foster for 8 service dogs in training for 4Paws and puppy sitter for even more, and I have seen two of my pups so far placed with loving families, with another currently in training. These service dogs change lives for the better, and I have seen it firsthand. 4Paws is able to place service dogs with their partners quickly so that the people in need don't have to wait longer than necessary, but the dogs are also trained by fantastic trainers so that only the best dogs graduate.
I have had two fosters with this organization and love helping these pups along their journey. 4 paws is a great organization to support.
I fostered two service dogs in training with 4 Paws for Ability through their college foster program. It was truly an amazing experience. I've never seen a community join together like 4 Paws has. I'm so blessed to have been a part of it, and hope to continue fostering!
We will be getting our daughter's service dog in April 2018 through 4 Paws for Ability! When I was researching service dog companies I found 4 Paws for Ability and decided if I was raising quite a bit of money to go to a non profit I wanted to visit first. So we came right after the new building was done. We got to tour the building, see all the dog areas, offices, training, outside areas. They were fantastic, explained everything. Even let us go visit the current class that was training so we could see what we would be experiencing.
My son just received his seizure alert multipurpose service dog in June. We can't say enough wonderful things about 4 Paws. The whole training class was amazing, and we absolutely love his new dog Bridget. She is going to change his life and ours in so many ways. We are so grateful to 4 Paws for everything!
Wonderful organization with a wonderful team of staff and volunteers!
I was introduced to this organization several years ago when we approved our son's developmental pediatrician about obtaining a service dog. Our doctor's response was "4 Paws for Ability is the best group", and we applied. The best part is the after-placement training support. Trainers are available for questions, concerns, and support even after leaving the on-site training. Our doctor was right - 4 Paws for Ability is the best group!
My husband and I have been puppy raisers for almost 2 years. This is one of those organizations that really allow the volunteers that serve to get "as much" as the recipients. The dogs that 4 paws breed for this amazing journey are absolutely fantastic and teach the volunteers a lot about love, patience and loyalty. We have also learned so much about the families that are the recipients of the dogs. The dogs not only help the children and veterans but can change the entire family's lives. When you walk into 4 Paws you can also sincerely feel the love that all the employees have for the dogs and the organization. 4 Paws is absolutely wonderful for both the volunteers and those who receive the dogs.
Being a puppy raiser for 4 Paws for Ability has been one of the best experiences in my life. It is an honor to be able to be a small part of making children and veterans' lives better.
I joined 4 Paws as a University Program foster and the experience, people, and dogs have been amazing. The program is a great way to build experience working with dogs as well as help build a potentially life-changing opportunity for someone else.
I am so thankful for the opportunity that 4 Paws has given me.. being able to be a volunteer and foster Momma for such wonderful dogs is true gift. The work that 4 Paws does to make families happy is incredible. Thank you for all you!!
We have two sons that have autism. When we decided to pursue obtaining a service dog for them 4 Paws was great at taking the time to answer all of our questions. Before we even decided to use the services of 4 Paws we had an very specific question. They transferred us directly to the CEO in order to obtain the most accurate answer.
Since deciding to use 4 Paws, they have been with us every step of the way. Not only helping with inquiries related to a service dog, but by providing an amazing support group. The journey of getting our boys the service dog they needed was hard, but 4 Paws in staying with us throughout the entire process.
As the dad of two autistic boys, this nonprofit has been there with support since deciding to obtain a service dog. We were able to quickly get the information we needed to make a decision on how a service dog would assist. Once we decided that a service dog was the way to go, they have provided constant support.
Top notch organization!!! This company partners with its clients from day 1 and is committed to its dogs and families for life!
Great organization! The trainers are phenomenal. They love their families and are committed to each family and dog.
This organization has changed my life for the better! I am a college foster, and my time spent with the dogs and learning about all the dogs can be trained to do has opened my eyes up to the world around myself. This organization changes lives for the better, and I am so thankful to be a part of it.
What an amazing organization! Our family volunteers as puppy raisers, our role is to socialize and teach basic commands. We have met SO MANY amazing people that also work with 4Paws or even the surrounding communities that recognize the emblem on our puppies vest! We are proud to have even a small role in impacting someone else's life and teaching our own children about inclusion, and the world outside of themselves. We love 4Paws!
4 Paws for Ability changed our lives by providing a service dog that serves my 3 children with special needs. Because of this dog, we've been able to go more places (even the beach!) and do more things. We used to have to hold my daughter down to clean her teeth, now she holds the dog's paw. Our dog warns us that seizures are coming, calms the meltdowns and finds my boys if they wander off. She is the anchor on our stormiest sees and our loving companion on sunny days. 4 Paws changes lives.
We started as a puppy raiser family, presenting to various groups about 4 Paws and their mission, and volunteering on site in October of 2015. In January 2017 all that changed when my daughter received her amazing service dog Ramsey. There are days where I don't know how I made it through them before Ramsey entered the picture. We still occasionally volunteer onsite, give presentations, and puppy sit for other raisers while we enjoy the first year of "Team Leah and Ramsey".
I consider myself primarily a volunteer, followed by my roles as donor, and staff (performing contract work in social media, website, etc.). I have been involved with 4 Paws for more than 5 years, having raised 11 service puppies. We are a guardian home to a breeder dog in their program. Being involved in so many ways allows me to see how carefully thought out decisions are made within the organization and how careful they are to carry out their mission effectively and efficiently. The volunteer program has grown immensely from my first days, and each day they are working to both expand and enhance the experience for volunteers while ensuring the most important mission goals are met through this work. As a donor, it pleasing to see that the information provided in the annual report and the yearly financial reports supports their achievement and growth.
4 paws for ability has allowed our family the chance to do things together we never thought would ever be possible. Going to the grocery store, going to dinner at a restaurant, navigating an airport, attending gatherings in public places. Those things were not options we had until Cricket the Wonder Dog joined our family. she is trained in search and rescue tracking, self harm behavior disruption, deep pressure application, sensory overwhelm alerts and tethering for my son affected by autism. I don't know how we survived without her and we will forever be in debt to this incredible organization for giving our family the ability to FINALLY feel a sense of normalcy in our day to day lives. Cricket is a miracle and the people involved in this organization that made her placement with us and the placement of so many other magical animals are our heroes.
4 paws for ability. Gives families the much needed help .by providing fantastic service dogs. 4 paws gave us a life we never knew . Going out in public didn't happen without a fight. Now it's normal. The simple things that everyone can do daily were a struggle. Not anymore thank you 4 paws
My son has a Multi-purpose Assistance Dog from 4 Paws for Ability. They have been wonderful, from the very first phone call. They continue to be wonderful, now that we have our dog. One of her tasks is tracking. Within two months of being home with our service dog, I had to use her for a real track. When your child goes missing, no amount of money is too much to be able to find them quickly. Thank you 4 Paws!
Our son received Bronx in Oct 2014, our meltdown prior would go for what felt like for ever now they are half of that. Did I mention how Bronx help find his boy when took a stroll. .
Love this organization they are alays there to answer any questions
We just finished up our fundraising & placed in a class. We are so excited for our son to get his service dog. Everyone at 4 Paws has been so helpful during the process! We are happy to have found them! You really do feel like part of a family!
4 Paws for Ability is an incredible organization. From questions during applying, fundraising, and now having our sons Service Dog home with us, they are knowledgeable and available to help. The 10 day training class was a life changing experience and I have gained even more respect for everyone who plays a role in the process of caring for and training these dogs. I would not hesitate to recommend this organization to anyone with a child who has special needs. So blessed to be a part of the 4 Paws family❤️
PLEASE don't give these people any money!
You do all the fund raising yourself and are directed to have donors deposit directly to their bank account...since my grandson can no longer travel, my daughter has had to find a local organization.
Almost $1000 in 4 Paws account will not be returned. How convenient for them!
THEY insist on having donations deposited directly to THEM even though the family does all of the fund raising...see how that works?
We received Mr. Raiden in January 2015. Because of him I can rest easy and know that my girl is starting to live a normal life again.
My son received his service dog in December of 2010. His dog has kept our son safe & makes him feel secure. His service dog has helped reduced our (parents) stress level since we know if our son runs off she can search & track him. The bond between our son & his service dog is incredible. Thank you 4 paws for ability!
My daughter received her dog last February. It has changed our lives! We are able to sleep peacefully again knowing that if she should have a seizure during the night- her dog will alert us!
Our dog also helps a great deal with mobility during our daughters "bad" days when walking is difficult for her.
4 paws is a life changer! The dogs are highly trained. Very socialized and just the best!
4 Paws for Ability has literally changed the lives of everyone in our family in ways too numerous to count. From the tiny little things that are easier today to the confidence we have to tackle large challenges when our son has his dog at his side. I can't say enough great things about them.
I got my Service dog back in June 2009. The staff is amazing! They're always there to answer any of your questions and they've retrained my dog for mobility support and balance. 4 paws for ability has changed my life for the better I no longer have to use my walker, I can use the stairs now and I feel more independent now then I ever had before. I also volunteer there with puppy socialization. I can honestly say that there is no better service dog organization. Where most service dog places require you to be on a waiting list for 5 years while they fund-raise for you and the dog you get is older. 4 paws people usually raise their many within 6 months to a year for most and the dog you get is a year and a half at most. Also you don't have to give back the dog once he retires!
We are currently fundraising for a service dog for my daughter. The people are amazing and so helpful. There is someone in my community that has a dog from 4 Paws and he is so well trained. These people are amazing at what they do
4 Paws is an amazing organization that has not only been a blessing to my family with the placement of Dewey, our service dog, but we have told others who have gone on to get their service dogs from them also.
Everything about them is first rate and you always know right where you are in the process of fundraising, etc. They are always available after placement to answer questions and/or concerns.
Once a 4 Paws family always a 4 Paws family!
My son received an Autism Service Dog in May 2014. Miki has changed our lives forever. 4 Paws loves their dogs. Every single one! Every one is helpful and kind. We still communicate with them every year to re-certify the dogs. We are going back in March 2017 to get our second dog after a birth defect was found in our first dog. It took a year to find the defect, and 4 Paws is giving us another dog FREE of charge. We are blown away by their kindness. I would recommend 4 Paws over and over again!
4 Paws for Ability placed my child with a Multipurpose Service Dog named Paris. She not only gives me advanced notice of his seizures (48-60 hours advanced notice, mind you) but also assists with Behavior Disruption and Tracking/Search and Rescue. Paris has brought me extreme peace of mind and has even alerted to seizures that were not fully coming to surface, allowing for my son's medical team to have a better understanding of his seizure activity. We have only had Paris for almost 2 years now, and it is evident that she is exactly what my child needed. Paris LOVES her job as a Service Dog and loves her boy just as much. In addition to all this, the 4 Paws staff always makes themselves available to answer questions in all areas related to Service Dogs and I could not be happier with the amount of support I have personally received. If not for 4 Paws and their dedication to training and providing Service Dogs to those in need, I'm sure that we would not be where we are today.
My son received his multi-purpose service dog 19 months ago and we cannot remember what life was like before him! He is a great addition to our family and provides us with a wonderful sense of security knowing that he is always on the job to alert us to seizures or blood sugar drops. He is absolutely beautiful and the most well behaved dog. He goes everywhere Bain goes which includes doctor appointment, therapy appointments, hospital stays, school, field trips, etc! We love 4 Paws for Ability! All of the trainer's and other staff members are great and very professional!!! I only recommend 4Paws for Ability to any child or Veteran seeking to find a service dog!
My daughter just received her first service dog through 4 paws. It was an amazing experience. 4 paws is a wonderful organization and does a thorough job training these pups. I can't speak highly enough of the trainers and the dogs they raise. Already my daughters dog is helping her with mobility stuff and her PT even stated she seemed stronger since getting the dog! We are in love with this dog and organization!
My son will be receiving a service dog from 4 Paws next July and we absolutely can't wait! We have been to their beautiful new facility and gotten to meet so many of the amazing dogs that they have trained! I can't wait for our son and our family to be able to experience the 4 Paws magic!
