The financial vitality work is outstanding. Our regional manager has helped us and many YWCAs. We are so fortunate to have her expertise and experience and passion for our movement.

When I contacted the YWCA, I was living in my car and could not find housing anywhere. I had lived there in the past, and the staff re-arranged their accommodations to suit my needs. I am hoping to be accepted in a housing facility for seniors and those who are disabled. As I wait to be accepted, I am grateful for the shelter and the community at the YWCA.

I grew up in a "Y family" - utilizing the health and fitness centers as a baby learning how to swim with my Mom and later as a young adult. Recently, as a adult, I found myself underemployed due to a catastrophic accident which left me 6% disabled. The ability to attend classes and participate in a fitness routine at the Y helped my recovery in many ways. I physically got stronger and stronger - but my spirit and mental health was improved as the Y fitness community (instructors and other classmates) were so encouraging and supportive. Two years later, I have made great strides and most importantly, my outlook and attitude has improved because of the Y. I am so grateful.

I believe in your mission. You have great programs for the community... However, the YWCA of Bristol spends most of the grant funding on themselves. Therefore I can no longer support my local YWCA.

The YWCA is one of the most corrupt and ineffective nonprofits in the country. I honestly do not understand how they are able to maintain tax-exempt status based on their major failings in their financial disclosures as well as their track record (or lack thereof) of doing work to support their mission combined with an absence of transparency. Not only do they have one of the highest paid CEOs despite pathetically low ratings in other areas, they have also run a spending deficit of over one hundred percent each of the last three years (which is a far back as the IRS maintains records). Most shocking, the YWCA only devotes a little over 30% of funds to programs and services, which many would consider fraudulent considering their staff falsely paints a much different picture. How do they continue to operate?! Bottom line, if you are looking for a reputable nonprofit to donate, volunteer, or get involved in any way to make a difference...LOOK ELSEWHERE

Wow, I just discovered this website, and I wish I had known about it earlier. I was a (paid) employee of the YWCA for several years only to quit after I discovered a male coworker was being paid more than me, (though I had a higher position, had worked longer, had more experience, degree, etc.). The few YWCAS I worked for (all connected in a certain region in the MidWest) were constantly seeking donations, not able to pay its paid employees (I remember the days where we'd have to wait MONTHS for a paycheck), etc. To find out that the CEO is making a hefty six figures is appalling. I couldn't believe the YWCA was in the list of "Ten Highly Paid CEOS." No wonder local YWCAs crumble!

The YWCA of Boulder County, as well as other YWCAs, provide multiple services to women under one roof. Also, you learn how women are not only benefiting from their interaction with staff and volunteers, but they gain strength from other women in similar situations. The YWCA of Topeka has changed my life in a personal way, through the empowering fitness facility, especially with the support and insight George Bruce offered me. I am a member, board member, and donor.
