Geographic areas served: Salt Lake County and surrounding counties
Programs: Shelter and Supportive Services includes the Women in Jeopardy Program providing a safe, confidential, licensed 75-bed shelter with private family or double rooms and supportive services including three meals daily, advocacy, case management, and access to community resources. The goal is to create a temporary refuge for women and children who are victims of family violence where they can obtain immediate safety and support; feel welcome and respected; gain access to community resources; and become more empowered to create healthy, violence-free lives. The Diversity Services program provides culturally competent advocacy and educational services for women of color, immigrants, and refugees who are victims and survivors of family violence. The goal is to advocate on behalf of underserved victims and survivors of family violence, and empower them to overcome racial, cultural, and other barriers to safety and support; learn about their legal and civil rights; and gain access to community resources. On-site co-located services are offered through Utah’s first and only Salt Lake Area Family Justice Center, an innovative community service featuring the following partners in one, safe location: Utah Department of Workforce Services, Legal Aid Society, Salt Lake City Police Department, Salt Lake City Prosecutors Office, Multi-Cultural Legal Center, the Division of Child and Family Services, the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners, and the YWCA. The goal is to empower victims of family violence and strengthen their safety by creating access to many critical services in one safe, supportive place. Each sheltered woman is assigned a case manager who will help in all of these areas, and each family is assigned a child advocate. The Prevention Education Program offers outreach and presentations to community groups, as well as psycho-educational classes at the YWCA. The goal is to empower adults and teens to prevent abuse and violence in relationships; make healthier life choices based on dignity, respect, and protection from risk; and gain access to community resources.
