I have attended concerts for several years and have been so impressed by these young people. With all the choices they have for activities to be involved in, they include the pursuit of music in their lives. Unlike some other options music is a year round activity. It's exciting to watch them grow from just trying to hold a bow to participating in an orchestra. We should support these young talents in every way we can.
My daughter has been taking violin lessons for a couple years now, and we were very excited for the opportunity for her to play with other kids. It has given her a new joy and a sense of accomplishment, and her siblings can’t wait until they can join too! The instructors are very knowledgeable and do a great job teaching the kids at the appropriate level. We are thankful for this program; it has broadened her musical education.
The Youth Symphony offers high quality musical education for students from kindergarten through high school. In the past five years, YSOECi has added four levels of orchestra classes, a string instrument rental program, a Chamber program, and well-organized classes taught by professional music educators who are currently developing a common curriculum. The YSOECI staff and volunteers clearly care about the musical growth and success of each individual student. Students have opportunity to perform at Sursa Hall, in outreach concerts, and in occasional Muncie Symphony side-by-side concerts. I highly recommend the YSO to any ECI student interested in the opportunity to play in an orchestra and be a part of this musical community.
YSOECI is where I got a lot of hands on experience as a teacher in training, experience that I have carried with me to now as a professional in the field. The organization does everything it can possible for string music education and its students in the community of, and community surrounding, Muncie, Indiana.
I've been a parent of a YSOECI student for several years and the experience has been invaluable for her. My younger daughter has also recently joined. Beyond the musical instruction, which is reason enough to participate, having my daughters experience the joy of making something beautiful with others is a great learning experience for them. This is a professionally-run organization staffed by a dedicated executive officer and committed and talented teachers. I've been so impressed with them that when the invitation to join its board of directors was offered to me, I jumped at the chance.
My daughter played with the YSOECI and loved it! It's a great value and she was exposed to music that she wasn't getting experience with at school. It challenged and inspired her to practice more. I was thrilled to be asked to be a member of the board as I thoroughly believe in the mission of making orchestral music available to youth throughout the community.
Two of my children have participated in the Youth Symphony over the past 6 years. They have both benefited so much from the experience and on so many levels. They have grown musically, of course, but have also gained leadership and interpersonal skills, and have had a great time doing so. The Youth Symphony is a wonderful opportunity for any child in East Central Indiana who wants to play an orchestral instrument, whether they are beginners or advanced players.
What an incredible opportunity for ECI kids! This program has helped my children so much. We have experienced the prelude and intermezzo programs, now beginning the second year in the Youth Symphony Orchestra.
The kids have benefited from extremely patient and knowledgeable instructors, and enjoy the opportunities to perform.
My daughter has loved her experience as a member of the Youth Symphony Orchestra! she has grown as a musician and enjoyed the experience of playing with a group. This is the best place to do affordable beginner instruction, play in an intermediate strings orchestra, or join the full YSO orchestra.
YSOECI does a fantastic job of bringing orchestral music to children in and around Delaware county. Great teaching, leadership, and community involvement are also a large part of the success of the program.
