Young Survival Coalition (YSC) helps to spread awareness that young (under age 40) women (& men) can & do get breast cancer. They also address the vast differences of a young woman vs an older woman facing a diagnosis of breast cancer. Things like fertility issues, body image, financial strain, etc which may not be as concerning for an older, more established woman.
They also put on an amazing fundraising bicycle ride that takes 3 days to travel 200 miles where breast cancer survivors are able to pedal along side their supporters. It is a one of a kind bicycle ride & I highly recommend it to anyone who likes to be out on their bicycle & wants to do a good thing while out there pedaling!!
This organization made the biggest positive impact on my breast cancer journey! It was SO helpful I vowed to make sure every young woman going through breast cancer knows about it. I have been involved with starting the first West Coast affiliate and am actively spreading the word daily on a nationwide basis. This organization WILL change a young woman's breast cancer journey in a very big way if they get involved in any way!
I was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 38 and was doing pretty well until after I finished treatment. Then I felt like I was alone in the world. That's when I found the Young Survival Coalition. The information on their website and materials I requested were great but even better are the women who make up this group. The message boards are a fantastic place to be able to be honest. There's no expectation of perkiness or being grateful for having cancer, but instead is a group of strong women who are fighting as hard as they can to keep going. I'm a little old for YSC but they are a fantastic group and will help you out of the dark.
