Causes: Arts & Culture, Arts Education, Performing Arts, Singing & Choral Groups
Mission:
Our Mission: Young Singers was established to provide the opportunity for children age 5-14 to participate in a choir that performs concerts at schools, hospitals, elderly-care facilities and community events.
Young Singers generates funds through public performances as well as private donations and grants, to benefit local nonprofit arts organizations for children in and around Orange County, California.
Programs: The recording program is an extension of the activities of the choir, designed to accomplish multiple goals:
* Enhancement of the musical education by introducing recording standards to the children in the choir.
* Creation of original educational songs (written by Samantha Smith, founder of YSOC, who is an established singer-songwriter and currently majoring in music at Vassar College, NY).
* Recording of songs to professional standards, with the goal of selling CDs at performances, on-line and possibly to schools and other youth organizations.
* Promotion of the CDs in collaboration with university marketing schools, to lower costs and increase impact.
* CDs would also be made available at no cost to those organizations deemed to be in need.
* Eventually the hope is to create a revenue stream from CD sales to help support the YSOC choir and other charities.
The rehearsal facility used by the choir is a small (80 seat) black-box community theater, with good acoustics, suitable for live recording of the choir.
The need is for recording equipment to enable high-quality recordings to be made in this facility.
Provision will be made for the possibility of recording at professional studios, if it transpires that this is necessary.
There will be a need to employ recording personnel (engineer) and to outsource mix & mastering services to complete productions.
