Rates are high and hours are horrible for the price. As a college student I am only back in town for the summer and the Knox County YMCA charges an upfront new member fee of $60 every time I return since I have not had active membership throughout the year, added onto the cost of membership for the couple summer months. They also have flyers inside boasting they support the troops but offer no military benefits or special rates, other than a discounted rate for Active Duty soldiers who are on their 2 week leave from a tour of duty. 2 weeks. Other reserve and National Guard members in the area receive nothing and go through the same training and deployments as our Active Duty brothers and sisters. Left the Y and switched to a 24 hour gym with military rates, no new member fee, and a better atmosphere.
