Mission: The young men's christian association of racine, wisconsin (organization), was established as a nonprofit organization under chapter 181 of the wisconsin statutes. The organization is dedicated to building a healthy body, mind, and spirit as part of a world wide fellowship founded on christian principles. Membership and programs are open to men, women, and children with no restriction based on race, age, or religion, and from which no one is turned away for an inability to pay. The ymca's mission "to put christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all" achieves this mission & its goals through a variety of community-based programs.
Programs: Healthy living programs - sports and recreation: through a variety of sports related activities, youth & adults are offered opportunities to develop skills in both competitive & non-competitive programs, but at the heart of what's learned is "more than the skills". The ymca's deeper objective is teaching values; it's the respect, honest, caring and responsibility that the ymca works to instill in participants. Health enhancement: comprehensive & diverse programs are designed for adults & youth with the primary objective being to develop & maintain the well-being of participants by improving their helath & physical wellness through good exercise & health education. Programs are offered at the ymca & in numerous locations around the community. Aquatics: a group of programs that are delivered through the use of swimming activities in developing and maintaining participants' health, physical fitness & well-being. Additionally, swimming lessons & water saftey activities promote safe health options and buidling self-esteem.
membership: the ymca is essentially a membership association. A variety of membership options are available for individuals and families for use of the facility in pursuit of health & wellness & skill development. At the heart of the ymca membership is the creation of a sense of community & belonging that will lead people to be healthier, more committed community members.
community development: these programs are held within the building & as outreach in locations around the community where needs are the greatest. Financial literacy, young leaders academy, teen achievers, and college tours, the fatherhood initiative are included as well as a variety of programs that meet time specific needs.
youth & family: the central focus of these programs is to foster growth & development, not only in children, but also in their parents & families. The educational programs help children develop moral & ethical behavior, self-esteem & leadership. Programs in afterschool childcare & day camp are included as well as family events.
