Causes: Philanthropy, Voluntarism Promotion
Mission: The Mission of You Are The Power is to spread, and act on, the Principle of Human Respect. We accomplish this through:
Building Community Roots – We find people who are in need, activate our Members to organize that community around their cause, and demonstrate that we care, our solutions work, and they are welcome to join us to accomplish even more. Network Effect – We grow and nurture a network of engaged and likeminded activists, train them on best practices for organizing and winning on causes, and communicate the principle behind why our solutions work: that people flourish without coercion, force or theft. Education and Action – For both our Members and the general public, we use these causes and our network as an opportunity to educate them about the foundational Principle of Human Respect, and give them a direct call to action to implement this Principle into practice. Our purpose is to use localized, grassroots, single-issue activism to empower people to work together to set our communities free, restore individual rights, and take the power away from government and put it back in your hands, where it belongs. We are a non-partisan network of activists, community leaders, and candidates for elected office who identify problems and work to implement solutions.
Results: After questioning the high salary of Surprise, AZ’s City Attorney, Rebekah Massie was removed from a council meeting under an unconstitutional rule banning criticism — right in front of her 12-year-old daughter. With our support, Rebekah sued the city, sparking major change: the mayor didn’t seek re-election, and the city attorney resigned. Rebekah now leads as You Are The Power’s Western Regional Organizer. In Clarksburg, WV, Friends Feeding Friends was feeding people on private property — until city council officials objected. You Are The Power stepped in, addressing the council directly, and with growing attention, a solution was reached that let the group continue its vital mission unhindered. Casey and Bailey Collins were wrongfully separated from their son Ridge after a misdiagnosis of abuse. With You Are The Power's support, their family was reunited — and the fight didn’t stop there. A new Georgia state policy now protects families by requiring full medical review before declaring abuse, and the bill named Ridge’s Law was recently signed by the Governor into law. Brady and Carrie Timms spent over 1,200 days fighting to get their son Jameson back after an incorrect abuse accusation. You Are The Power's Georgia team dug deep, gathering evidence, consulting experts, and launching a public campaign. In April 2025, the couple was found not guilty, and Jameson came home. After tragically losing a child to illness, Cheyenne Benthin’s surviving child was unjustly taken from her. Despite medical findings that ruled out any neglect, law enforcement would pursue criminal charges against her — until You Are The Power rallied public support behind her. The charges were eventually dismissed, and Cheyenne was reunited with her child. Navy veteran Joe Wood was being forced off his grandkids’ property in Springerville, AZ simply for living in his RV. You Are The Power mobilized a wave of public pressure on town officials, leading the city to back off and drop its campaign against Joe and his family. After Sheriff Nathan Harmon’s daughter drove drunk and crashed her car, You Are The Power exposed how Harmon tried to covered it up. We followed this incident, posting a 5-part investigation speaking out about how an elected official can bend the law to keep a family member from facing the consequences of their actions. Massive public outcry, including during a live radio interview, eventually led to Sherriff Harmon resigning while facing investigation.
