Mission: Founded in 1910 the mission of the YMCA of Metropolitan Huntsville is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body. YMCA programs guide youth, support and enrich family living, promote healthy lifestyles, and enhance multicultural understanding. Every program seeks to instill the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in each and every participant. The YMCA is open to all, no matter gender, ethnicity, age or religion and through our Annual Giving Campaign - Building Strong Communities...One Kid at a Time, we are insured that no one is ever turned away from YMCA services because they lack finacial resources. In 2005 alone over $250,000 in subsidy was provided to those who needed YMCA service but were unable to pay full fees. The YMCA is a volunteer driven organization. There are opportunities for service to the commmunity through program volunteering, policy making volunteering, operational volunteering, fund raising financial monitoring to help the organization make the determinations necessary for meeting the social needs of their communities while finding the resources to make it possible.
Programs:
With the development of the YMCA Child Care Services through the merger of the Huntsville Child Care program with YMCA child care programs, the YMCA is uniquely positioned to expand it goal of providing affordable licensed child care to all parts of its five county service area.
With increased regional demand for child care, the merger of the programs was a positive first step for the growth and the continued mission of licensed, affordable, quality child care in Madison County as well. A high priority for the YMCA is developing programs and services that will expand child care opportunities within the service area of the YMCA including Madison, Marshall, Morgan, Limestone, and Jackson.
Kathy Keen, Vice President of Child Care Services for the YMCA and former Executive Director of the Hntsville Child Care Center, recognizes that this merger allows both organizations to consolidate management resources, boost the dollars that directly benefit the children, and maintains the longstanding mission of both organizations by continuing to provide State Licensed affordable child care in Madison County. Affordable child care is a basic requirement of workforce development for our local community and working parents will now have expanded access to licensed, affordable, child care.
