Yanawana is an amazing community that provides much needed support for the unhoused and underrepresented. They work so hard to do as much as they can with very little, and they are doing a great job at that.
Yanawana Herbolarios is an absolutely vital piece of our community’s infrastructure. They provide invaluable education for people of all ages and facilitate community and land healing. They deserve any and all resources that can be made available to them.
YH is like a second home to me. Community building is a part of everything that YH does and their programs help folks feel connected and purposeful.
I’ve been a volunteer with Yanawana for a little under a year but even since day one I’ve felt like a part of the family. This organization provides so many people, with extremely different backgrounds, a safe space and an amazing sense on community. Yanawana has also taught me more about the land and indigenous roots than I’ve ever had access to before, and for that I am very grateful. Yanawanaherbolarios is so beneficial not only for reconnecting natives but for anyone who cares about the land and others around them, I couldn’t recommend them more!
Yanawana Herbolarios has been providing such necessary care to our community, filling in a lot of the gaps the city leaves. On top of that, they provide community with the social spaces necessary to grieve, heal and build.
Yanawana Herbolarios is such a wonderful organization. I’ve learned so much from them and have continued to take that knowledge with me wherever I go. It is a space for holistic healing in my opinion and to learn about our ancestral lineage. None of this is taught in schools, so learning about this as an adult from this organization is priceless
Yanawana Herbolarios is one of my favorite nonprofits. They're a dedicated group that passes on their knowledge and creates change makers within the community they work in. Their transparency and honesty has always been provided and has never had to be asked for. They're a great first line of defense for so many of our underepresented family members and always find a way to help. They have filled in the cracks where city resources have failed me and many others. I have never seen or heard of them turning away anybody seeking help, and everything they do they do informed and intentionally. They not only give help eagerly, they give the right help.
After years of just supporting and rooting on Yanawana Herbolarios, I recently sought out help from their herbalists. I was provided an in depth comfortable consultation, I was taught about every single herb being used, I was taken outside and taught to harvest anti-inflammatory plants from my own backyard, and I was given incredible blends that had me back to my normal self with no complications. The help Yanawana Herbolarios gives is priceless and necessary and we have something so special with them in our community. I love them forever, and anyone would.
Yanawana Herbolarios provides essential services to the community. They are able to provide direct support and bridge gaps in healthcare for our unhoused community members.
They are also an invaluable educational resource for the community through their workshops, community events, and people's clinic.
I was introduced to YH by a friend that said I would be interested in Maria’s class Community Medic. The information I have obtained has been invaluable to my evolution in homeopathy and the community experienced has been even more impactful. I have much gratitude for the effort put into making the materials for the class as well as the content itself being so pertinent and interesting.
My favorite place in San Antonio, I have been going for several years. I have met some of my favorite people and learned so much about plant medicine, land restoration, food preparation, and community. Thank you.
Fantastic organization local to me. The powerful womxn leading the group are always giving, organizing, and strategizing to better our community. I am blessed to have them in my sphere.
Yanawana is doing amazing and important work in communities that are most often overlooked. I am grateful to have been a part of the work and to have learned from the comrades there.
Yanawana is a gem in San Antionio. The volunteers, students, and community here are so incredible. The level of inclusion, kindness, and humanity outnumbers any other nonprofit.
YH and it's apprentices are folks that make sure to spread radical love compassionate care to the Black and Indigenous communities of San Antonio. Through their direct action programming, they teach the greater public to live in their truth with no shame. Maria and her apprentices have love for folks of all walks of life. If you've came thru yh I'm sure you've gotten a [consensual ] inviting hug , a meal, and skillshare that empowers you to become a more conscious & caring citizen.
No improvement needed !!! They are a awesome group and I recommend them to anyone that visits San Antonio
Yanawana creates a space for everyone, I have honestly never felt so welcomed somewhere in my life. They are a back to the land group showing up purely for the land and the community. This group deserves support, as I can only imagine what they would do without the constraints of financial drawbacks.
Yanawana Herbolarios is a great organization that thrives with the help of community and volunteers. They empower individuals to become resilient, self sufficient and healthier. Incredible leaders!!
This nonprofit needs more funding. They do outstanding work with the houseless community and underserved populations
This organization is AMAZING and helps the community in so many ways. I am a volunteer I have a lot of respect for Maria Turvin who is the founder and fills the needs of so many. When some of my clients were really sick she brought herbal preparations to assist with the process of healing. I'm also involved in Her Herbal Medic program which supports healing and support within the houseless community. Yanaguana Herbalarios is also a steward of the land and blesses all of the plants and animals in nature and at the headquarters. Thank you for all you do Yanaguana Herbalarios!!!!
This organization goes above and beyond. I had a client in desperate need of mental health and emotional support and this organization stepped up to provide support when no one else would. Their service reaches those populations that fall through the cracks of our systems. They serve our most vulnerable brothers and sisters with love and respect.
great group of folks and great knowledge. they hosted a great workshop for our space and look forward to working with them further.
The Yanawana Herbalarios are what community health and well being should be about. Not only does this team serve the people they work with; they empower individuals and communities by teaching how to build safe water systems, functional tools, provider gardens, herbal medicine and self-sufficiency. The community responds by remembering the knowledge of the Elders, those who imparted the same knowledge not so long ago. It's also interesting to note how the Herbalarios are welcomed with open arms by Emergency First Responders, who recognize the value added benefits of simple but powerful survival skills.
Real good, kind hearted from the Earth people are at the heart of Yanawana Herbolarios. They are always listening, teaching, guiding, cultivating, growing, evolving and I could go on and on. And, they kind to mother earth and respect all her elements.
I support Yanawana Herbolarios because they are the fountain of knowledge I seek. I'm so lucky they live and work in San Antonio, TX
I'm honored to serve with this organization. This organization does important work by providing free health-care to low-income community members as well as free education on topics of sustainable living such as water collection, permaculture, food preservation, botanical medicine making, and first aid. Working with this organization has been life-changing work for me and I'm grateful for the chance to be part of it.
This is a dedicated and passionate group of individuals working to build a healthier, more resilient, and more sustainable community. So much heart and hard work goes into their efforts to provide free clinics, events for elders and youth, educational programs, and post-disaster outreach...and these are just a few of the amazing things they have in the works. The leaders of Yanawana Herbolarios have a gift for turning few resources into meaningful and effective community building.
Awesome non-profit organization in the tradition of Herbal Medics, that helps provide education, botanical medicine, post-disaster preparation and assistance and much more to underserved communities in the San Antonio and Central/S TX region.
The personal sacrifices and dedication of this entire team is incredible. The time and effort they invest in providing care to the under served communities of the San Antonio, South Texas areas and beyond have is incredible. Watch for them in the future and take an opportunity to serve with these folks.
Yanawana Herbolarios is an amazing organization that empowers people by teaching them survival skills and herbal medical knowledge to help themselves and their community. They also provide disaster relief and community clinics to our most vulnerable members of society who most need our help. In unstable times of climate change and lack of affordable, accessible healthcare, Yanawana Herbolarios, is a much needed organization in society. I am honored to be a volunteer in the process of training with this organization to help my community. I believe Yanawana Herbolarios is an intregral part of communities becoming liberated and self determined in times where systems have fallen short.
Yanawana Herbolarios is led by a team of extremely driven and capable women. The only thing in the way of YH being able to do profound Good in the community is access to resources. Despite this obstacle, YH still is able to positively impact the community-in-need in San Antonio as well as and other organizations.
YH is such a diverse, talented group who are dedicated to serving the community and spreading education of self sufficiency!
I first volunteered with Yanawana Herbolarios in fall of 2017, right after Hurricane Harvey flooded much of the Texas gulf coast, leaving many people without a home to return to and in great need of support. Yanawana Herbolarios was sending a team to the Houston area to bring much needed supplies, offer free integrative health clinics, and general support to area residents. While I was unable to be part of the team going to Houston, I was given the opportunity to make an impact by assisting with the food and supply drive, contacting stakeholders, and being part of the communications team. I had never done any communications work before, but felt very confident in this role after the training session we completed. Everyone that I interacted with was quite knowledgeable and dedicated to their work, and very welcoming. It was such a good experience that I went on to continue volunteering in some of their community programs, as has my daughter. I am very grateful to get a chance to make an impact in the lives of others so directly, and with such a great organization. I hope to continue to volunteer with Yanawana Herbolarios, and look forward to participating in the new programs that are coming up this year.
