Mission: Yad Chessed Charity Fund was formed to help needy people primarily in the Boston area. The Fund provides financial assistance to needy individuals either in the form of grants, monthly food certificates or loans. If it is a grant, we do not give the money directly to the individual but rather use it to pay a bill such as to a grocery store for food or to a landlord for rent. People with a chronic need often receive monthly food certificates. These food certificates may be our own special certificates that can be used at local kosher grocery stores and/or they may be supermarket gift certificates. For loans the borrower is expected to pay the money back in twelve equal monthly payments. As Jewish law prohibits usury, we are forbidden to charge any interest on such loans. Unlike other charities where 10%, 20%, 30% or more of a donor's contribution is used to pay for fundraising and administration, 0% of a donor's contribution to Yad Chessed Charity Fund is used to pay for fundraising and administration. Since Yad Chessed is run entirely by volunteers, no funds are required for salaries and office rentals. Funds for any remaining expenses are raised separately. Therefore, 100% of a donor's contribution is used for helping the needy unless the donor requests otherwise.
