I started volunteering at X-Cel through Boston Cares (another great organization) several years ago, and it quickly became addicting. I've volunteered at a number of places, but helping out at X-Cel has been the most meaningful experience. Every volunteer's efforts and every dollar donated really counts. There are no waiting lists, and there's no waiting for a new semester to start - they're are willing to help anyone who shows up, starting immediately. Every student receives individualized attention, and they recognize that the same method of teaching doesn't work for everyone. There's a real commitment to following through and making sure people stick with the program and progress. You can tell that Don and the team really care about educating the community and changing lives.
