Volunteering Oportunities

Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Philanthropy, Philanthropy, Charity & Voluntarism Promotion, Voluntarism Promotion

Mission: Volunteer Fairfax (VF) was founded in 1974 to refer individuals to volunteer opportunities in support of the greater Fairfax County community. Our mission was and remains to mobilize people and resources to meet regional community needs. Our goal is to help nonprofits engage, train, and mobilize volunteers, increasing the impact of those volunteers as nonprofit capacity builders. Like the rest of the nonprofit community, however, we are currently reevaluating and reimagining our model of volunteerism and strategizing how best to move forward in a post-COVID world, mindfully considering DEIA+ in our programs, and treating all individuals with respect and compassion. We are emphasizing transformative volunteerism, whereby the community served is empowered to move forward, and volunteers feel a deeper sense of connection to their work.

The Volunteers for Change program looked like a great way to get involved in my new community after I moved last year and saw their listing in The Washington Post. It has lived up to its promise 100%. I began by signing up for events listed on the monthly calendar, and now volunteer weekly with Volunteer Fairfax. Their opportunities are open to people of all ages, all interests. They also work with MANY nonprofit organizations in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Whether you are a child who wants to help clean up a park, or an adult interested in being on the Board of a nonprofit organization; whether you can donate just a few hours a year or want to be involved on a continuous basis, a Volunteer Fairfax experience will make you feel you are contributing something worthwhile to your community.
