Programs: Maya archaeology and communications initiative:during the fiscal year the board of directors voted unanimously to establish a program focusing upon training in mass communications dealing with mesoamerican archeology and mayan cultural heritage through the strengthening of the independent news media in guatemala, training of journalists and assisting indigenous media and other organizations in free press and mass media techniques to better inform the local and international communities, on issues relating to cultural heritage and environmental protection issues through fact-based reporting and other communications activities. In furtherance of it's program, the organization created and maintains a website devoted to the initiative. East africa media support:the organization continued its program in kenya in association with the africa free media trust (formerly ndima) by assisting in preparation of grant applications in partnership with afmt. Judicial transparency:the organization launched a project initially focused in the united states and designed to increase the public knowledge on the backgrounds of state court judges. In pursuing this program, the world free press institute submitted several funding proposals. Domestic training: during the fiscal year members of the board of directors, on a volunteer basis, engaged in domestic journalism training and mentoring by presenting training sessions on reporting techniques, use of public records and reporting on municipal financial issues to several media organizations and working with individual journalists.
