This is one of the most effective animal charities I have donated to. I work for the organization and donate as well because I know my money will be effectively used to help animals around the world in the most impactful way. I am also glad to see the organization not only help wildlife but also factory farmed animals who are the largest group of animals subject to cruelty globally. Great cause and caring involved leadership.
Review from Guidestar
I previously worked for this organisation, and I would encourage anyone who donates to check out a website called glassdoor which has many reviews from staff, most of whom do not rate the organisation: http://www.glassdoor.co.uk/Reviews/WSPA-Reviews-E418885.htm.
I think that those who donate to this organisation should seriously question where money goes. The same bear sanctuary is used for appeals all over the world, and time and time again. Yet the money which they actually get is tiny in comparison. Several members of staff who work there used to also donate, but on joining the organisation stopped. This is a reflection of the mismanagement of money.
I have donated to this organization for years and they have lovely calendars of how wonderful they are, but lately I have been going over ratings, and WSPA mostly gets very low ratings and I read that it's not a good place to work with a lot of nepotism and poor treatment of outside staff. I noticed that on this site no clients served have an opinion, no testimonials. I don't want to support an organization that exists primarily to provide a livelihood to the administration. So I gave this charity two stars. Charity Navigator gives them one star. I wish I knew the truth. Going to do more research.
WSPA not only fights animal cruelty in the short-term but awards long-term solutions by partnering with governments. This is imperative because WSPA is changing minds about animal cruelty.
WSPA is a wonderful organization and unique. Their dedication to promoting animal welfare and making animals a priority is inspiring. I will support them for years to come. I also love that they are business friendly and find long term sustainable solutions.
This is a wonderful caring group who does a lot of work to help and protect animals. That is why I support them every month.
I support WSPA because of the magnificent work they do all over the world. They provide a voice for all creatures Great and Small and they Need Organisations like this!
I have supported WSPA with monthly contributions for several years. Their world-wide service area ensures that animals, ALL species of animals, receive help when catastrophes occur. In addition, WSPA works to end abuse through education and practical solutions.
Previous Stories
WSPA is a very practical organization. It's goal is to help countries, communities and individuals SOLVE its animal-related problems rather than just talking about them. They recognize that harmful practices won't just disappear, especially if the alternative requires behavior changes and/or money. WSPA provides whatever is needed and helps develop long-term plans for animal welfare. Their work in reducing and eventually eliminating the trade in bear bile is an excellent example of how WSPA works. They rescue bears from street performers also and provide safe accommodations for them. In the UK they were instrumental in eliminating factory farming of dairy cows, and in the USA they are working to improve the lot of horses.
I love WSPA because they bring so much awareness of the suffering of animals all over the world and they do it in a dignified and no-nonsense manner. I will always support the work of this great organisation.
I have donated money to this non profit organization because I admire what they do for all kinds of animals in the world. I like thieir Facebook page too. Bless them all !
Out of so many great causes that we have around, I chose WSPA a while ago after seeing their constant effort and tireless fight to dignify the life of not just one particular group of animals but to all living creatures that are in need.
I am grateful for the WSPA as they get results, and immediately make the donors aware of their progress with email updates. Members are able to choose where their donations are allocated, and specific updates are given right down to the individual animals rescued. WSPA takes on lesser know but horrible abuse that captured wild animals endure and seek to rescue these animals as well as educate the local citizens in the areas they are working. This is the first time I have encountered this to such an extent with an animal welfare organization.
I donate to the WSPA because I believe in helping animals globally. Changing the lives of animals is dependent on a few things some of which are emergency care, prevention of disease, education and most importantly - CHANGING legislation. I believe that the WSPA works on all of the fore mentioned, and that my donation is being used appropriately. They also communicate efforts consistently.
WSPA is an organization that works to improve the welfare of animals worldwide. Although the information (I get from WSPA) often pains me, I appreciate that they uncover, and tell caring people about, much of the horrific abuse and exploitation of animals in my own country, and in far-off places. I have literally lost sleep because of what I now know about bear bile farming. But I have told several friends about it, and maybe they will tell some friends, and my hope is that as awareness increases, so will action. I so appreciate that in addition to spreading information, WSPA has taken so many concrete steps to save animals from horrible lives and return them to the peace and dignity all animals deserve.
Many years ago, (around 1995) I watched a National Geographic Special on TV about the plight of the dancing bears. It was horrible. They followed several volunteers with WSPA in the area working to rescue them and place them in a sanctuary. I was heartbroken about what was happening to these bears but so relieved that an organization was out there in the trenches working to help them. I immediately researched how to become a donor of WSPA and have been a regular supporter ever since. I have never regretted it! They go all over the world making a huge impact on the welfare of animals, most of which are located in remote areas of the world where animals are abused and poorly treated with little to no veterinarian care. Additionally, the work with many animal welfare groups to support local need and help to influence change. Over the years I have come to realize that they are one of the most instrumental organizations working on behalf of animal welfare worldwide. I have supported them regularly for over 20 years and will continue for many years to come.
How can you not love and admire a non-profit group that exceeds all boundaries in their devotion and love for what they do ~ helping animals, all animals. My eyes have been opened by WSPA in so many issues, bears, dogs around the world, elephants... Without this wonderful organization many, many animals would suffer in silence. They are the voice and I know I do not stand alone in applauding them.
People have a personal obligation, as a human being, to help others. This organization focuses on helping people help animals so that they themselves will be lifted. This organization is international, and local so there is no limitation on physical boundaries, or even species of animals. We need to support this organization and create more like it.
This organization provides WORLWIDE support for animals in need. In countries where animals would not stand a chance, WSPA is there to help them. Animals all over the world have been saved by this compassionale organization instead of facing a disasterous situation. Please endorse WSPA and help them continue to save animals in need.
The most satisfaction comes from helping an organization that help the truly helpless animals. Animals don't have a choice. People will ALWAYS have choices, even in the most restricted situations. Thanks to WSPA and PETA, many animals are being rescued from idiotic and unmoral human beings.
WSPA is a wonderful organization, and I appreciate what they do to further animal welfare. I will continue to partner with them in my donations, because I believe what they are doing is lasting and legitimate. I am proud to be associated with them.
Without this organization, and others like it, the world would be a sad place. I have witnessed groups saving animals in Japan after the quake there and smaller single efforts to save even a dog in a parking lot. Times are tough. We need to make our priorities different and stop paying for $5 coffee and spend that money saving innocent animals. I thank you for all that you do!
WSPA IS A DEDICATED NONPROFIT AND DOES SO MUCH FOR THE BENEFIT OF ANIMALS, THEY PLAY A BIG ROLE IN MAKING THIS EARTH A BETTER PLACE WHICH NOT ONLY BENEFITS THE ANIMALS BUT ALSO HUMANS.
Great work done to save the most vulnerable in this world. I hope they are able to grow their programs and outreach efforts.
I am 'friends' with WSPA on facebook, and I really love reading their updates about animals who need help, or those who have been rescued. My favorite stories so far are about the bears who were rescued from bear baiting and brought to a sanctuary. WSPA is an inspiration of mine to help animals in my future. I am attending school for wildlife conservation and I hope to have my own large animal rescue for rehabilitation and refuge some day. The work by WSPA inspires me everyday and also reassures me that my dreams are attainable.
WSPA provides news and status updates for animals around the world. I rely on them to keep me informed and to provide a means for me to help the Earth's non-humans in need. I would love to be on the front lines as they are but I am not able to tolerate the horrors they can. I give them money so those that can fight the fight are able to. I rejoice every time an animal is rescued, rehabilitated, and/or sent to a sanctuary. My money is well spent by WSPA.
It is always cheering up my day to read about the emense effort this organisation is doing every single day to make our world a better place, not just for the animals, but also for all of us!
WSPA helps animals across the globe in the most dire of straights. Removing them from natural disasters and more horrific ones cause by humans. This is an incredible organization that I am proud to help support.
WSPA is a wonderful charity that protects so many animals in need. Their work is done all over the world, where animal welfare laws and regulations are very poor. They are one of my favorite organizations that protects animals. Animals can't speak for themselves and have no say in their own well-being, WSPA speaks for them, and that's my definition of a hero.
I am a lover of all animals, domesticated and wild. I donate every year, sometimes more if a critical situation arises where a disaster strikes, or a specific population of animals are being mistreated and WSPA needs donations so they can act quickly in the best interests of the animals. That's the key. WSPA has taught me a great deal about animals from all over the world, and the plights that they face each and every day. I donate because I want to help WSPA help the animals have a better life. WSPA is always working towards the best interests of the animals. They put their lives on the line to help animals in terrible situations so they can go to a sanctuary, get neutered, get vaccinated, get spared from a horrible death. Bears are being saved from a life of misery as dancing bears, or bear baiting, or bile farming. I admire the work that they do. I will always contribute to WSPA because they are making the lives of animals better all over the world. I sleep better at night knowing I somehow played a teeny part in their efforts.
I simply love the fact that WSPA works hard to help animals worldwide, long range action for the little furry friends everywhere! They act quickly when there are emergencies and do a great job everywhere they go.
