My experience at Woody's Place has been nothing short of rewarding. I admire how Dawn pours her heart into caring for every single senior German Shepherd who arrives there in need of love and shelter. She goes above and beyond, from taking them on walks multiple times a day to preparing healthy meals tailored just for them! It warmed my heart to see how happy and content these dogs are under her care—it's clear she treats each one as if they've always been hers. While I’ve seen some volunteers come and go, Dawn remains unwavering in her mission. This sanctuary shines brightly as a beacon of hope for older German Shepherds across our community!

I can tell you first hand that the residents of Woody's Place Senior German Shepherd Sanctuary don't want for a thing, because I am married to the Founding President and primary caretaker, Dawn Mimnaugh.

Dawn works tirelessly 7 days a week, 35o days a year, to ensure the health, peace, and comfort of every homeless older German Dhepherd that makes his or her way to Woody's Place.

Not only that, but she also spearheads the #lifewitholddogs blog and Podcast, which provides valuable information to owners of older German Shepherds.

Watching Dawn selflessly provide care for these dogs and valuable knowledge and information for older German Shepherd owners over the past decade and a 1/2, I can tell you that she has a heart of gold.

I recently came across Woody's Place Senior German Shepherd Sanctuary while searching for information on Degenerative Myelopathy, and I am so grateful that I did. The moment I started following Chop's journey, it was clear how much love and care Dawn pours into each dog at the sanctuary. Her insights on managing and nurturing older German Shepherds are invaluable. Through her blog, podcast, and newsletter, I've gained practical tips that have made a world of difference in my own dog's life. Knowing there’s a community devoted to helping these beautiful dogs has lifted my spirits tremendously. It warms my heart to see someone like Dawn devote her life to saving homeless senior German Shepherds with such compassion. Thank you for being a beacon of hope!

I think most people have no idea what is involved in caring for more than one or two dogs, especially older dogs with disabilities. Then you have the fund raising and grounds keeping and house cleaning. Plus, there are cats on the premises to care for. The energy, compassion, love and attention provided is beyond belief. People use the word "Hero" very liberally but in this case, Dawn is not only a hero but also an angel.

This is by far one of the best nonprofit organizations that I've ever been associated with. Besides this being near and dear to my heart having owned several GSD's over the years, the work that Woody's Place does is just so heart warming and the care they provide to these senior companions is just stellar! I lost my last GSD a couple of years ago and this organization has taken front row for me. I can donate to them in place of the expense I no longer have being pet-free right now. I wish I lived closer to volunteer!

I love Woody's Place. It is a sanctuary that provides German Shepherds a loving home to live out their life with the dignity they so richly deserve. I follow Dawn on Facebook where she provides insights into the lives of the dogs and how they're doing. She also provides vital information on nutrition, medical issues, and more. On the website she provides podcasts with experts discussing pertinent information pertaining and unique to German Shepherds as well as other issues such as starting a rescue. The website also has a blog section, which provides recipes for senior dogs, information about medical issues concerning senior dogs, and much more. There is also a quick resource page that has a link to specific topics. But, most importantly, Woody's Place saves the lives of beautiful German Shepherds who were discarded by their owner and society because they were too old and/or sick. This is a wonderful nonprofit that deserves to be recognized. I am glad I donate several times each year because I know the money goes to a wonderful and deserving cause.

Woody's Place-Senior German Shepherd Sanctuary is a fantastic nonprofit organization. They have given of themselves to provide a caring, safe, and loving home to senior German Shepherds to live their best lives for the remainder of their lives. Through their newsletters and Facebook page, they provide important information about issues pertaining to German Shepherds, such as health issues, food necessities, overall care, and updates on the shepherds living there. I had two German Shepherds and learned a lot about their needs when they were seniors. I am so supportive of Woody's Place that I donate to them several times a year and also purchase their excellent quality merchandise so that I can show my support and enlighten the public to their great work. This is definitely a well-deserved place for which to donate.

Woodys Senior Shepherd Sanctuary has helped over the years so many wonderful older dogs that deserve to live their last years in a caring place like Woodys. So many needy dogs out there, and Woodys helps as many as they can. I have personally had rescue GSD most of my life and this breed will always be close to my heart. When I see and hear about older shepherds being dumped at shelters, my heart breaks. Without places like Woodys who help these older dogs, their life would be poor. All rescues are struggling with so many dogs needing to be taken in, and financially needing help. We are such a throw away society for our animals, it is so sad. Woodys deserves our support, so they can continue rescuing this wonderful breed.

Woody's first appeared to me on a Facebook feed. I knew nothing about them, but I started following their feed. At the time I had a senior GSD, Auto, and may I add she was the love of our life! I enjoyed the tips, recipes, educational messages, photos of the dear ones and their history. But mostly, I love the heart and soul of the staff. It was obvious to me that this place was real, and a real blessing to those senior angels. I have since lost my Auto girl. Six months later we adopted Walter. Another GSD. As an officer of a dog rescue my sister runs, I know how satisfying and heartbreaking rescue can be. I own 2 GSD’s, and have been following Woody’s Place for many years. These are old shepherds that have been tossed aside for a variety of reasons. Woody’s gives these old dogs a warm, loving, and caring place to call home for the rest of their lives. Sometimes only a few weeks, or months. They care deeply for these dogs, and take excellent care of them, from the food they eat, daily outside walks, and excellent veterinary care. I follow them with joy for the dogs, and cry when they pass. Rescue is a tough job, and Woody’s Place does it right.

It says a lot about their values rescuing these older dogs who most overlook and don't want the hassle to take care of older dogs and health issues. WPSGSS is top notch small senior GSD Sanctuary/rescue in PA. I have followed and donated to them for years now. The dogs live out the remaining years of their lives being fed premium if not home-cooked meals. They get to take walks through beautiful trails on the property multiple times a day. They are all groomed by Dawn at the Sanctuary on regular basis. They receive any and all veterinarian care needed.
The thing I love most is the almost daily videos of the pack posted to social media. You find yourself feeling like you know these souls so well although you've never met in person. You cry when there is a loss, you cheer when a new dog is welcomed to their forever home. And once in a while, you giggle at the joy observed through the dogs expression/action.
There is also a podcast called Life with old dogs. This is a huge help for someone who finds themselves in similar situations...but it also speaks the truth of what the mission statement is and the difficulties faced, whether it be financial, emotional or otherwise.
Please support them. If ever was a legit, completely dedicated and genuine cause,...Woodys Place for Senior German Shepherd Sanctuary is it!

I love what this sanctuary does for senior German Shepherds in need. There are not enough of these places in this world. I have an older German Shepherd suffering from cancer and hip dysplasia. It takes a lot of time and effort to take care of her so I can only imagine the time, effort and dedication required to take care of several senior German Shepherds with a multitude of issues and ailments. Plus doing the things necessary to raise the funds to pay for everything these seniors need. Plus raising a family and working at her job. It is just amazing that someone already so busy with life can find it in their heart to rescue, care for and love God's creatures. The advice and experiences they have lived through has been beneficial to me and the care I give my girl. The woman who runs the sanctuary, Dawn, should be dubbed “The Saint of Senior German Shepherds”.

I've helped out with the dogs over the years and can tell you for sure that they are VERY well cared for and treated like family.

There aren't any cages. All the dogs live together and get along, and that's because of Dawn. She knows how to make sure that, for the most, they're aren't any problems.

All the dogs get lots of exercise throughout the day. Some of them can only walk a little bit, and others can run through the woods. Woody's Place is fully fenced in, so they pretty much get to do what they want while under supervision outside.

Even the food they get is made right there by Dawn!

All the dogs go to the vet regularly, and those who need extra help, like Nona, who was heartworm + get the help they need. It's like money is no object.

When I die. I want to come back and be a dog at Woody's Place.

Woody's Place is a dream come true for older German Shepherds who find themselves homeless for one reason or another.

They are a true sanctuary, meaning that once the dog arrives at Woody's Place, they stay there until they cross the rainbow bridge, and during that time, they receive all the love and care they could ever want.

I have been following along with Brutus's story. He was left in a shelter in New Jersey by his family when he was 12 years old, and he was skin and bones. He was so sad and confused while at the shelter but never acted out or tried to bite anyone.

With no time left for Brutus, Woody's Place agreed to take him. I was thrilled to see him go and now get the best care he's probably ever had in his life!

I also love how Dawn from Woody's Place keeps us all up to date on the "Woody's Place residents' as she calls them, through social media and the newsletter.

Keep up the good work, Woody's Place!

Woody's Place is all in with heart and spirit with each German Shepherd they care for. Brandi has continued to have some very great days amongst some tough ones being the oldest senior at Woody's Place. Last week she joined all the dogs on a walk for the first time in a month... She gets hand fed when needed and also received a special brace to help her walk with less pain. Another great example is when Savvy arrived at the sanctuary, she had a very bad autoimmune disease and lost all of her hair on her belly in addition to episodes of difficult mobility in her joints. With trips to the vet and treating her holistically, within 6 months Savvy had a whole belly of new hair growth! She also received a mobility game changing leg brace custom made in Austria to help keep her active and the first one out of the Gate in most of the instagram video's that are posted!! Nona is another example of a dog thriving after months of aggression and seemingly discontented the majority of her day. With patience and more patience, Nona is doing better each week. There are no limits that Woody's Place with regards to taking care of the most challenging or aging German Shepherds. They will try and try again until there is a solution for any issue they may encounter. Every senior German Shepherd should get to live their last days with so much love and attention. LOVe LOVE LOVe following their instagram page!

The senior German Shepherds dine on homemade food twice daily, fresh goat milk, farm eggs and all sorts of special treats. Just like us, they even get to splurge with a Mcdonald's hamburger when the cravings arise! With trails and more trails and wide open spaces to roam, the daily walks look as enjoyable as they do meditative. Woody's Place Senior German Shepard Sanctuary is a phenomenal place! All the dogs have their own large bed, their own toys to play with, a huge fenced-in yard to play in. They are taken on a nice walk in the woods 2 or 3 times a day. They have regular maintained appointments at the vets as well as being taken to the vets immediately if they become sick. When they get sick they receive home cooked food especially for them. I could go on and on but you really have to see it for yourself. Best of all they get alot of love and attention. Just so you know the woman who founded and runs Woody's puts her whole heart and soul into these dogs.

Dawn is an amazing person with a heart of gold and a love for senior German Shepherds. Thanks to her and Woody's Place I fostered and was able to share my home with a sweet senior shepherd, Rocko, that quickly became one of our pack. The sanctuary is a beautiful place with lots of room for the dogs to run and explore. Any dog that makes it to Woody's will live it's best life for the time they are with Dawn. I am honored to volunteer and to have met Dawn and gotten to be part of such a great organization.

There couldn't be a better place for a senior German Sheppard. The care and love they receive is probably the best of their entire life. Woodys is the very best at what they do.

Great people with a true love for senior German shepherds. They go far above and beyond to care for and promote adoptions of the seniors not only from their own but other organizations in the area. I would recommend woodys place to anyone as a first option to find the perfect gsd.

Awesome organization that truly cares about, and for, senior German Shepherds. Woodys place has real compassion for these senior dogs, and they make sure they get to enjoy their golden years.( Whether through adoption to a well suited furever home or staying at the Sanctuary). At the Sanctuary they are well fed with quality food, have toys to play with and a generous size property to walk for exercise. They also receive necessary medical care and medications as needed. Woodys Place provides this amazing service for these senior German shepherds through its volunteer staff and generous donations from people who care for this cause.

I am a volunteer with Woodys and love what it stands for
Dawn is a wonderful caretaker of these abandoned and sometimes ill dogs
She gives them wonderful medical care and they are part of her household living inside with her and her husband and their rescued cats. She not only shows them love and compassion in their final years she is there with them at the very end
They are lucky dogs for sure

Seeing the way the dogs at Woody's Place is amazing. They get home cooked meals, love, and a place to call home. Dawn and her team are exceptional. They go above and beyond for these dogs. Some of the dogs came from bad situations and others whose owners couldn't care for them anymore, but everyone one of them ends up with the love and care they deserve. I've personally seen the hard work that goes into caring for these dogs, and it's not for the weak. It takes strong caring people to care for these senior GSDs and the members of Woody's Place are all that and more!

I am a donor to and supporter of Woody’s Place because they impressed me so much with their forever love and care of older German Shepherds, even those with medical issues. These dogs receive great food, great medical care, exercise, and amazing living conditions. These are dogs no one else wants but who deserve so much. The staff is wonderful and even have birthday parties for the dogs. I can’t say enough about Woody’s Place!

This charity is amazing. I follow them from Missouri. I wish I was closer so I could volunteer. They rescue senior dogs and treat them as family for the remaining life they have. They are an all GSD senior rescue and to say I have the up most respect is an understatement. This is a home, well a small farm. They grow organic food for the dogs, fresh eggs from the chickens & fresh milk from the goats. Each meal is hand made with love and all these ingredients and all the treats are hand made as well. This is a loving home enviroment, not kennel runs. This couple works and cares for the seniors. Which means some times a morning of cleaning up a potty mess & I dont just mean urine, because some of the GSD have DM ( a cruel disease). Each dog has their own bed and a mountian of toys. This house/charity is 100 full of love. She also runs a Shepherd Shoppe so you can have beautiful items. She walks these beauties every day on the property & Mr Woody's place can be seen snow blowing paths in the winter, just for the senior GSDs. Trust me they are not just walked on thier beautiful property that is 100% fenced in for the safety of the seniors, they also get one on one time or group walks at a beautiful park. Mr Woody's place also make a beautiful bridge for the GSD that are in wheels so they could cross the creek. This lady even post daily to share the entire life of these beautiful seniors, we get to see their walks, birthdays parties, donation reveals, making of treats & home cooked meals or just time in the houae or yard. She has a pod cast for caring for seniors and a web page of support for others with DM. She even shares the raw emotions of lossing one of her seniors, we get to be a part of the journey as well because onceyou join the FB page you love them too. Each day we get an update of them & when they go to the vet and also the sad ending when they pass. She and her husband and all the volunteers are amazing. To take in the seniors when they are failed by the ones that where to love them to the end. These are the most beautiful people I have ever come across. Their hearts are large...to take dogs knowing that a heart break when they pass is guaranteed, but take them any way and give them the best life that all dogs deserve. Sometimes the GSDs stays are short and some are long, but the one thing that we all know that loves this Charity is that each one is more than loved and gets the best end to their lives that they more than deserve.

Having a gaggle of German Shepherds sounds crazy, but to have that many that are senior dogs takes love and dedication. Woody’s Senior German Sanctuary is a place where Saint Dawn works to give these seniors a best life until it’s time to go over the rainbow bridge. Dawn does multiple raffles, sales and fairs to raise funds to allow her and her helpers give these beautiful dogs a place to enjoy every day.
My wife Barb and I have donated raffle baskets, bags of food and a little cash in assisting this beautiful cause. We have 2 Sheps of our own and couldn’t imagine life without them. If you have a chance, please help anyway you can, time, food, or just getting the word out that many animals need our assistance.

The dedication of this sanctuary ensures the health and safety of these animals and works with other rescues with the same passion. I love watching how they care for the dogs thru videos they share. Woody's Place is a top notch Sanctuary. Love this place!!

The pups at Woody’s Place are some of the luckiest dogs around. They are so blessed to spend their late years with her and Mr Woody’s Place.

As a German Shepherd lover (and owner) I am so proud of the work done by Woody's Place! Caring for Senior GSD's , many with severe medical issues is no easy task. The owners and volunteers at WPSGSS work tirelessly every day to make sure the resident dogs there get the best care possible. They cook delicious meals, bathe, brush, and exercise them just to name a few things. As an animal lover I am happy to support WPSGSS as much as I can. I have purchased items from the German Shepherd Shoppe and have donated to various medical procedures for specific dogs on occasion. Woody's Place is most definitely a great Non-profit. The best of the best!

I had the privilege to meet Dawn & learn about her amazing organization in 2011 when I adopted Molly, a senior Shepherd who came from a bad situation. Thanks to Dawn and
the wonderful people who volunteer at Woody's Place she survived. She was with me for 2 1/2 years when she crossed over the bridge in 2013, I still miss her every day but smile "every time she shows up on my screensaver."

To anyone who has ever thought about adopting a senior dog I can tell you that the only one happier than the dog will be YOU :)

I became interested in this rescue group when friends of mine were looking for a new dog, so I subscribed to their FaceBook feed. I’ve never had a GSD in my family but have several friends who are GSD enthusiasts. I’m very impressed with the hope-filled stories of senior dogs living the good life with the volunteers. It’s nice to see good people taking care of good old dogs. This organization is a bright spot on social media. May God bless the dog people!

The pups that come to live at Woodys Place are such lucky pups! They live in a beautiful home where the are fed top notch food, have their own comfy beds, toys, the company of other dogs and people. They are all taken for their vet visits and receive their medication. They are walked frequently during the day in their amazing fenced in property and in the woods. The staff at Woodys Place truly do a fantastic job. They give each dog lots of attention just as if they were their own. There is no doubt Woody's Place dogs live out their lives in a wonderful place!

Woody's Place Senior German Shepherd Sanctuary provides us all with an example of how animals should be loved. From many different backgrounds and circumstances come Senior GSD to find their forever respite. These "Golden Shepherds " find their rest as a loved member of my Sister, Dawn's pack. Meals are prepared taking all dietary needs into account, attentive veterinary care is provided and each resident's health is closely monitored. The pack enjoys multiple daily walks in a beautiful setting and lives alongside cats, chickens, ducks and goats. Love and dedication to the residents makes WPSGSS a mission and all aspects are well done ❤

Woody's place is so much better than a shelter or rescue, as give dogs a wonderful place to retire. They are fed high quality kibble and home-cooked food, taken for regular vet visits, high quality treats and toys, daily walks and tons of love! Of course belly rubs are included also!

I have known Dawn, founder of Woods Place SGSS for 10 years. I contribute to the sanctuary when possible. I am thrilled there is a place for these wonderful senior dogs to live out their lives in a loving environment. Dawn posts videos of the dogs and they are happy, lots of open space, other critters to woof at, walks, car rides an home prepped meals. It's where I would want my old boy to go if I could not care for him. I would love to live there also! I know she has pledged herself to them and does fundraisers to help support them. Love Woody's Place. Sure wish there was a sanctuary like it where I live near rural Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Too often senior dogs are dumped at shelters as they age. My soft spot is for German Shepherds and particularly the seniors. I like the videos that keep us up to date on what is happening with the dogs. Hoping they can take more dogs in soon as many senior German Shepherds need homes. I do donate but sadly the Canadian dollar is so low right now that 200.00 Canadian is approx. 144.00 US. Keep up the good work. Woody's is a great place for unwanted senior GSD's to live out the rest of their days. Lots of love, exercise, good food, toys and more. Lost my 4 seniors in the picture in Jan 2016, Dec 2016, Feb 2018 and Nov 2018. Miss them so very much.

In a world with so much animal neglect and abuse a sanctuary for senior dogs is something you will not find easily. Woodys Place provides a loving, comfortable and safe place for the senior dogs that original owners can't or won't take care of. The people who run Woodys Place and the volunteers are nothing short of being angels. It's a twenty four hours a day job that only special people with huge hearts can do. My only experience with Woodys Place is as a bystander since I live in MA and they are in PA. Too bad such a great organization can't be franchised and spread all over the world. I wish I was closer and could help them help the senior dogs. God bless them and what they do,

Through Woody's I fostered an amazing senior GSD. Being an older dog with health issues Rocko did not stand much of a chance until Dawn stepped in. When I saw his face I knew I had to open my heart and home to him. He got along with our dogs immediately but it took some time to earn his trust and for him to realize he was at his forever home. I was lucky to spoil and love him for a year and a half before he became my angel. Each of my dogs are special in their own way. Rocko was a once in a lifetime dog. Thanks to Dawn & Woody's and the work they do I was able to give a home to an amazing dog.
