Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Named Trusts, Philanthropy

Mission: To enrich the lives of children and young adults with disability and chronic illness.

GOALS:

  1.  Reach all children & young adults with disablity and chronic illness in our region with year-round programming
  2. Expand & enhance the awareness of the Woodlands and its programs among the health care providers, academic community and the public
  3. Further enhance and develop both the staff and facilities to become the premier service provider for children and young adults in the region with disability and chronic illness.
  4. Achieve financial sustainability whereby all children and young adults with disablities and chronic illness in the region have access to the programs offered by the Woodlands.

Programs: The Notes from the Heart Music Program is a year-round program that provides children with disability and chronic illness, who express an interest or display musical talent, an opportunity to leave the audience and take a prominent place on stage.  A stellar line-up of world-class musicians, conductors, and artists volunteer their time to teach children with special needs to sing, appreciate music, compose musical scores and play instruments during the Notes from the Heart Music Camp and weekend retreats throughout the school year. In addition to attending classes and workshops during this one-of-a-kind summer experience, the children who range in age from 8 to 18 culminate the event by performing in a free public outdoor concert entitled “Bringing out the Stars” under the direction of renowned conductors.

The Woodlands is a magical place for children with special needs to socialize, experience a really fun indoor & outdoor camp setting, go swimming, and make music together. We found this gem in the woods through their open house, and immediately were enchanted by the grounds and all of the offerings. I've been referring children like my daughter to go to this camp - she looks forward to every event she can attend! When I pick her up, everyone is smiling, at ease, enjoying the artwork they made or games they played, and the campers look forward to the next time - that's the sign of a good experience. The staff are all amazing people who truly love the work they do. I can't say enough about this nonprofit, so grateful it exists.
