Mission: Womensource provides educational programming to empower women. Womensource helps women thrive by providing opportunities for connecting and learning.
Programs: Girl power - a workshop for middle and high school girls and the women who love them. This free, half-day event addresses topics pertinent to girls at this particular age so as to educate them and give them information regarding specific topics. The 2017 girl power was titled 2kind2bemean. Participants heard from a speaker and engaged in small group break-out sessions over bullying that occurs between girls both in person and through social media. Womensource hosted 175 teenage girls and the women who love them at the 2017 girl power event.
motivating women - annual luncheon hosting a keynote speaker, or panel of speakers, to provide motivation and encouragement to women who attend. In 2017 approximately 170 women attended the motivating women leadership lunch.
power lunch series bi-monthly educational lunch program for women in a variety of subject areas. Programs range from inspirational to informative including topics such as trying to pour from an empty cup, development plans downton. Other topics covered include sex trafficking, affordable care act, and talking with your teenage daughter about her weight. In 2017, 420 women attended the power lunch series. Power breakfast series educational breakfast program for women led by female leaders in our community. Women from all walks of life met at a local restaurant to hear from leaders such as carol burrell, president and ceo of northeast georgia health systems, michele prater, ceo of the north georgia community foundation, and amanda wilbanks, a local entrepreneur and small business owner, carol martin, chief of police for gainesville city police department. Participants were privy to up close and personal contact with high level women gleaning inspiration and encouragement from speakers as they shared their career autobiographies. In 2017, 135 women attended the power breakfast series.
evening series quarterly programs intended to go more in depth with topics pertinent to women than can be covered during the lunch or breakfast hour. Womensource hosted three evening programs in 2017 with approx. 100 women attending in total: 1. Power of the heart a program in collaboration with the american heart association and the junior league of gainesville-hall county. Laurie weber, a woman living with heart failure, shared her story of living with cardiac complications. Then, women divided into three groups and rotated through three programs heart healthy meals, heart healthy exercises that can be done anywhere, and hands-only cpr training. 2. Meet and mingle at the q an after work networking opportunity for women held at a local art venue called the quinlan visual arts center. 3. Leadership academy the oxley group sponsored a three-night series based on the disc personality assessment to help women enhance their leadership skills. Annual celebration a yearly gathering all women who have attended womensource programs to hear about womensource accomplishments, as well as goals for the coming year. In 2017, we hosted author marie benedict who wrote the other einstein to share about her book and her work excavating stories of women from history so that we can learn about their hidden contributions to our world.
