After retiring in 2007 from a corporate attorney position, I volunteered for several wonderful nonprofits, including the WSLB. I completed the WSLB's excellent 40 hour DV counseling training, and began volunteering as a legal advocate, helping secure restraining and custody orders, which I found very gratifying. What really blew me away, however, was the staff's non-pareil commitment to clients. They really do change lives! I was so impressed with their work, when I was asked to join the board, I answered with an enthusiastic "yes!" and am now Board President. Honestly, we are only getting better and better. Please consider joining me as a WSLB supporter and volunteer!
I started volunteering at the outreach center in late 2014 and after taking the 40 hour training, also spent time volunteering at the shelter. I am consistently impressed with the dedication and compassion the staff has for the clients. Giving back and paying it forward is important to me and I am blessed that I found this organization and that they can use my skills. I have seen the impact they have on clients and I am glad to see the organization is getting more recognition for their hard work.
I started volunteering for WSLB at the towards the end of college, and I must say that I've never had a bad day there. The work that this organization does for victims of domestic violence is amazing, and these staff members even maintain a hotline for anonymous callers who might need help finding the resources they need, even if it isn't DV related. I've seen women have such positive impact on their lives--there's nothing bad I could ever say about this place. I love being a part of it!
Last year I had the wonderful opportunity to volunteer at WSLB although I started it for school I gained so much experience and knowledge working there. Everyone at WSLB was so warm and friendly it really made my time there special. Working with the clientele was rewarding because I felt that we were really making connections, and I was able to gain valuable experiences helping the clients and learning from their experiences as well it was very empowering.
As a board member I am always proud of the excellent work that WSLB does. The services not only provide intervention and safety for individuals and families facing violence, but also address family violence prevention and how to make healthy relationships work. They serve so many people who are in situations where their homes are not safe places of respite.
