An incredible organization helping women and men overcome sexual assault. The organization keeps a low overhead and uses donated funds to impact lives daily partnering with JSO and local hospitals to help bring justice to those affected.
Review from Guidestar
I have met several of the employees of this great organization and I am impressed with the level of professionalism and caring I found while touring the facility. The counselors care about each and every person they are trying to help. The Women's Center of Jacksonville is a great model for other similar facilities to strive to emulate.
The Women's Center of Jacksonville is an all around amazing center. They offer services for Continuing Education, Counseling, and Sexual Assault Survivors. The Women's Center of Jacksonville helps clients age 12 and up both male and female, and do not discriminate. They are always willing to help, including running a 24 hour sexual assault crisis hotline.
In December of 1999, I was diagnosed with my second advanced cancer. At that time, I had to make the decision to move my Bosom Buddies organization to a nonprofit organization that would continue my work as founder in case my time on earth was over. After much deliberation, I decided that the Women's Center of Jacksonville met all the criteria for a new and permanent home for Bosom Buddies. We moved there in 2000 and it has far exceeded my expectations. Not only does it provide a safe haven for breast cancer survivors, but it also provides other services specifically tailored to women, should the need arise. Bosom Buddies has grown and added a Young Survivors Group and Survivor Advocates to its menu of services. Everyone there is committed to not only helping women survive, but encouraging them and helping them thrive. I'm proud to continue to serve Bosom Buddies and the Women's Center after all these years.
The WCJ is a wonderful, safe place for women and their families to come. WCJ provides a safe haven to share thoughts ,feelings and even learn! I will forever be thankful for the WCJ for changing my life. Without them I am not sure who I would be. These women are strong, intelligent and thoughtful...just like I am today.
I've been involved with the Women's Center of Jacksonville for over 15 years and have seen it grow from its grass roots beginnings to a mature non-profit offering a variety of coordinated services to women, girls and their families. The Center provides health services that are unique in the community: mental health counseling of a sliding fee scale, services for women dealing with HIV/AIDS, and breast cancer advocacy, support, and education. I have always been impressed by the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the Center and by the caring staff that is always willing to go that extra mile or two for the clients.
I think it is a great privilege to volunteer with this organization, because the Women's Center of Jacksonville genuinely works to fulfill its mission to support women and to nurture mind, body, and spirit. The support and advocacy this agency provides to sexual assault victims is, sadly, very much needed. Affordable and high quality mental health counseling is even more important than usual in the current economic situation, and so is a program like Expanded Horizons, which helps adult women achieve literacy. When I attended the annual celebration of achievements for the women in this program, their new confidence in their abilities was awe-inspiring.
The Women's Center of Jacksonville provides services to women in the community in a number of areas. The Rape Recovery Team is on call 24/7 and will go out to help victims (men or women) and guide them through the days after their trauma. The Counseling program will provide counseling to these individuals and to others in the community on a sliding scale. People who have been affected by the WCJ are extremely positive.
