Mission: Wisconsin professional police association provides for the social and economic welfare of wisconsin police officers.
Programs: Collective bargaining activities included ongoing contract negotiations and enforcement of labor contracts for approximately 6,000 active members of 370 law enforcement and civilian municipal employee bargaining units. Legislative successes included securing passage of new laws that permit off-duty and former law enforcement officers to carry concealed weapons on or near school grounds, create penalties for committing and/or threatening an officer with battery, expanding the lawful use of administrative subpoenas to investigate internet crimes against children, and introducing legislation to allow certain survivors of law enforcement officers that are killed in the line of duty to maintain their health insurance benefits.
the association's annual convention provides a means of direct communication with and education of individual members. The association sponsors various educational and informational seminars for about 200 attendees and also presents awards for outstanding achievement in the preceding year. In addition, the annual meeting of the governing body is held during the annual convention to provide access by membership to individual directors and to the business of the governing body as a whole.
the wisconsin police journal is the official publication of the wisconsin professional police association. The journal is published quarterly and contains information on professional issues, collective bargaining, and governmental relations. Members' subscription are included in their dues. Members may contribute articles of special local interest for the benefit of other members of the association.
