My story is newly moving to Winchester with a 7th Grader. Although my son had played league hockey previously for many seasons, I had no aspirations of my son being a super star... I just wanted him to be on a hockey team in a new town. He was placed on the "D" team and I couldn't have been more happy... or so I thought. Despite paying the same annual fee as all other divisions, we were given seven players. Mind you the "C" team had over 30 players... six lines... and won the State Championship! But we tried to carry on and many times with only one line playing at the end of the first period, we'd be tied or in a close game. But inevitably, with no replacements exhaustion takes over and we would literally get embarrassingly pummeled. I went to multiple meetings begging for help with no action, and offered to coach but was denied. Once, another entirely frustrated Dad brought a neighbor kid who was on the "C" team, but was reprimanded for doing so. Understanding this is a volunteer organization, and I've long since left Winchester. But I vividly remember the frustration on my son's face weekly with the complete disaster I had signed him up for. I was so proud of him for never complaining as he continued to push... just to play the game! On the reverse side, I've never been so ashamed for the group of adults involved who did absolutely nothing to help out, week after week after week through the entire season.
