Mission: WIN empowers families with young children to build resilience and thrive by strengthening relationships within families and communities.
Target demographics: Families, Children aged 0-5
Geographic areas served: Los Angeles County
Programs: IN-HOME THERAPY: WIN’s bilingual, master’s level therapists see clients on a weekly basis (via phone or video during COVID-19) depending on the client’s technology capabilities. WIN conducts dyadic parent/child therapy and individual therapy for parents to support and stabilize parent - child relationships. REAL-TIME SUPPORTS: WIN’s Community Resource Specialists provide in-home (via phone or video during COVID-19) intensive case management services including cross-agency resources & linkages for the entire family, and concrete supports such as groceries, rental assistance, diapers, etc. SOCIAL CONNECTION: WIN’s events team plans events to bring families with young children together and create safe spaces for them to interact while building a sense of community. During COVID-19, WIN’s events team is sending daily text activities, hosting weekly video play-dates and video chats for our families. SCHOOL-BASED CARE: Together with our partners Family Service of Santa Monica, Didi Hirsch, and Providence St. John’s, we are providing trauma informed care to afterschool providers and collaborating with local elementary schools. We are developing video support groups for parents, children, and teachers, as well as disseminating mindfulness, emotional regulation, and self compassion tools. RESOURCES FOR RESILIENCE: WIN is launching our Resources for Resilience program with Westside Family Health Center and other FQHCs in Los Angeles to address the issue of how to connect patients who have a positive screening with services. As part of California’s ACEs Aware initiative, FQHCs will be reimbursed for administering ACEs screenings to children at Well-Child visits. Through Resources for Resilience an embedded Community Health Worker (CHW) will conduct a series of psychoeducation sessions with caregivers of children 0-11 who screened positive on a ACEs screening at a Well-Child visit. The first session would occur immediately after a Well-Child visit - usually in the same room where the visit has occurred. COMMUNITY AMBASSADOR NETWORK (CAN): WIN launched our CAN under INN2 to outreach to our community and connect them with resources as they struggled with the COVID-19 pandemic. WIN hired staff for these roles that represent the communities they serve both culturally and linguistically. Our Community Ambassadors are successfully conducting in-person and virtual outreach to connect community members with resources and educational opportunities including COVID-19 testing, education and supplies, mental health and wellbeing resources, and social support resources. Our Community Ambassadors provided 136,951 resources last year. This work was done through business canvassing, community events, and other outreach activities.
