Nonprofit Overview
Mission: William Is Artistic is a nonprofit organization with a mission to provide special education advocacy support and artistic creation social support for our special needs children.
Results: Since March 2021, we've hosted three virtual parent support group meetings with an average attendance of five families. Our monthly parent support group creates a safe place/environment for families of children with special needs. Having a child with special needs/disabilities without a trusting support system can be taxing on our parents and caregivers so we create this space so they don’t feel alone and feel more supported. We bring in experienced professionals from the fields of education, counseling, medical, parents, and more to give our families resources and contacts they may need. We recently kicked off our Artistic Creation Summer Program where we send out art packages with over five art activities to our special needs children. Art is a great way to express creativity, language, and feelings and for our children this is important for enhancing those skills. We use art to empower our children to build social relationships with their peers. Since April, we have sent out 18 artistic creation packages and received great feedback from our families.
Target demographics: Families of special needs children and children with disabilities
Geographic areas served: Hampton, Virginia but extend our services nationally.
Programs: Parent Support & Resources, providing special education advocacy services, training, and resources. Artistic Creation, social program where we empower our children through Art to build social relationships with their peers.
