Mission: To change hearts, minds and laws to ensure the critical species of africa endure forever. Our mission is to stop wildlife crises by inspiring all sectors of society to take responsibility and action to safeguard wildlife. By partnering with government, civil society and communities, we identify critical issues, execute innovative solutions and never give up until we see results.
Programs: Wildlifedirect makes grants to an affiliated organization, wildlifedirect kenya, to pursue the following accomplishments: the flagship campaign, "hands off our elephants", focuses on stopping elephant poaching, extinguishing the demand for ivory and supporting judicial reform for wildlife. This three pronged approach has resulted in:1) increased public awareness and understanding of elephant poaching and the illegal ivory trade through various events, partnerships with industry and local communities to deter poaching and trafficking of ivory out of kenya2) engaging in dialogue with the chinese community based in kenya,3) supporting the strengthening of laws and sentencing related to wildlife crime and developing a rapid reference guide and training for the new wildlife act in kenya for use in investigations by law enforcement and the legal community to obtain higher conviction rates. 4) supporting operations of wildlifedirect kenya to provide administrative services, including: disbursing funds to service providers; monitoring wildlifedirect and provider agreements; overseeing projects on the ground; providing training to staff; maintaining the office operations; and maintaining the website. The website disseminates information about the "hands off our elephants" campaign and acts as a main public relations tool to share information about the successes of the work of wildlifedirect kenya.
