I contacted this agency to see what I should do to help a curved bill thrasher that had fractured both upper and lower beaks and was hanging out in our courtyard and property. On their suggestion, I captured the bird, took it in to them, and they did a beak trim of his upper beak, which I think was pretty crucial to his survival, as his misaligned upper beak kept growing over time and was becoming a serious impediment. The afternoon after I took him in, I received a phone call from them describing the treatment they provided him. Although it might not have been their usual practice, they returned the bird to me so that I could continue to feed him and monitor his condition in his own home territory. He is doing great, and returning to some of his old thrashing habits! The communication with this agency was wonderful, and their willingness to be flexible while considering the best interest of the bird was a gift. I am so grateful to this volunteer agency who looks after New Mexico wildlife. Kudos and many thanks!
