WildCare is a treasure both for the thousands of birds and animals it helps every year, and for our community. It is the "go to" place when you find a baby bird on the ground, or a run over hurt oppossum and need to figure out what to do. It is a place for children to learn about animals, and our part in the ecosystems that threaten them. It speaks out for inhumane practices that endanger animals. And for those of us lucky enough to volunteer there, WildCare offers hands on experience in meeting and helping our fellow animals. The staff are unbelievably committed and knowledgeable, and are a generous partner with wildlife rehabilitators in our region. The volunteers are a wonderful collection of people of all ages and bckgrounds, who clean cages, wash dishes, feed and help medicate the animals, and greet the public. It says a lot that some of the volunteers have worked at Wildcare for several decades.
For me personally, working in the Birdroom helps me to feel that in some small way, I am helping to counter the negative impacts of humans on our environment. It feels so good when I open the basket netting, and the baby birds have their little mouths wide open to be fed with syringes. The best part of my work is getting to release birds that are now healthy back into their home community. It is an honor to get to be a part of the Wildcare organization.
Wildcare is a great animal rescue. We have used their animal phone hotline a couple times and it’s super helpful to get immediate feedback. We really appreciate they are willing to help all wildlife not just certain species.
Not only am I a volunteer at WildCare as a Nature Guide, serving local youth by connecting them to nature and the history of the land, I have also benefitted from this wonderful organization by bringing in two birds that needed aid. WildCare followed up with me about care and the process of dropping the birds off after hours was pretty easy. A really great organization doing amazing work!
One morning, I was rushing to pick up my mom, 50 miles away, at a transitional care facility. The time was set. Then, in the driveway, I found a baby bird. Frantic, I started Googling.
Wild Care calmed me down and told me what to do. The drop-off was quick and the recovering Pelicans were cool to see.
I made it to my mom's facility less than half an hour late.
The baby bird was fine.
I have never been to the facility. I can only follow their amazing work and dedication to the wildlife in their care through the amazing internet! They are wonderful caring human beings! Thank you for taking such good care of all of the wildlife!! Thank you for sharing with all of us so that we may learn and understand them also!!
I have been volunteering with WildCare since 2012. What they are able to accomplish is, to me, nothing short of incredible. To watch animals which you think have no chance at survival recover and return to the wild is heartwarming. To watch the people who make this happen is awe inspiring. If you ever wonder if there are good people in this world look no further than the people that make up WildCare. And the community members who bring animals in - they care so much. I mean how does someone spot a 5 gram baby animal on a trail?!
I tell people that volunteering with WildCare is the best thing I do with my life and it is. I can't imagine not being a part of WildCare.
As a volunteer, donor, and event attendee, all of my interactions with WildCare have been stellar. Most importantly, to know that wildlife in the greater Bay Area has a safe place to fall when injuries occur is a relief, and the fact that they work closely with other rescues in the area only adds to their fabulousness. Thank you, WildCare, for being so wildly wonderful
WildCare is an amazing organization! While I haven’t brought any animals in personally, I have followed their incredible work over the years and truly believe in their mission. I have in the past asked advice about safe rodent deterrent and other questions about what to do when friends in different states find injured animals that need support! Thanks for everything that you do, WildCare!
They've been doing amazing work on a shoestring for decades, the dedication is unbelievable. I found them when we first moved to San Rafael, back in 1975, and they were working in a tiny old dilapidated building with virtually no facilities. They're still in that old building because all the money goes to saving animals, and they have a wonderful group of supporters who help with the upkeep and improvements. I've brought them many animals over the years and donate monthly, they are just amazing.
I worked briefly as a volunteer in 2016. I admire WildCare for many reasons but they also walk the walk. Charles Darwin famously said that the noblest attribute of man is the love of all creatures. This organization adheres to this highest ethical standard.
Marin County is so fortunate to have WildCare. Over many years I have taken a number of injured birds as well as a couple of squirrels to WildCare, and as a critter lover I am so grateful to have access to such an amazing wildlife rehab facility nearby. They are always compassionate and professional, providing a safe environment for the animals as well as offering nature education to the public. Their online critter posts, camps and classes are especially valuable for kids to learn to connect with and appreciate the natural world. The folks that make WildCare so wonderful are an incredibly devoted and caring group. Thanks so much for all you do!
I am so grateful to have Wildcare as a community resource. I know not every city/region has this army of kind and knowledgeable animal lovers and experts. They have taken in several critters/birds that otherwise may have perished and treated them. I have donated and know that my funds are going to a great cause. I hope you can donate too, and help them treat more wonderful creatures large and small. Every person I have interacted with is so professional and kind. They also have wonderful programs for kids. Thank you Wildcare!
Wildcare is so absolutely wonderful! It has been a long time since I had to bring in a wounded bird, but they are always so caring and responsive. Plus, their Nature Guide program is brilliant – I trained more than 20 years ago with them, and still, my life is animated by what they taught me! I am proud to be a monthly donor.
I can’t say enough about WildCare. The work that they do in the community is incredible.
In addition to turning to them myself when I found small creatures in need of help, they’re my number one place to refer people who post on random places like next-door or Facebook when they are in need of help and don’t know what to do to help wildlife in need. This organization is incredible. Thank goodness we have them in the community.
We have lots of bats around our property in Novato. One day I found a bat on the ground below where they nest higher above behind our shutters. I could see it was still alive so I got a shoebox and put a small clean towel in it. I picked the bat up with a piece of paper towel, knowing not to touch it, and put it in the box and put the lid on. My husband took it WildCare. They gladly accepted it and said they’d keep us informed of its condition, and asked if we would allow it to be released back on our property if it lived. We said of course! Well the little guy, a Mexican Free Tailed Bat, we found out, was in shock so they hydrated it and cared for it for about a week, and then a very nice woman from WildCare came out with him to our home and released the bat to his family of other bats! They all chirped when he joined them! It is truly amazing what they do to help all creatures, big and small. We are very thankful for them!
Wow - I feel so lucky to have Wildcare as a resource. Multiple times when I have encountered injured birds, I have called them and they’ve always provided me with thoughtful, actionable advice. They have been a staple of our community since I can remember, and I believe every town needs a WildCare!
WildCare is a Bay Area gem. Whether you are bringing an injured wild animal to their team, learning from their incredible newsletters, enjoying their wild animals recovery updates, or lucky enough to visit their little animal family in San Rafael, WildCare goes above and beyond and successfully instills great love and respect for the nature that surrounds us. Thank you WildCare for always helping the animals that come to you, and for nourishing the souls of the humans that find you. And thank you for teaching me so much about the animals that I've been lucky enough to share an ecosystem with! I can't wait to volunteer with y'all someday!
Volunteered here quite a while ago but had the best experience and learned so so much about wildlife that to this day have fond memories of my time spent at this place. Wonderful facility and wonderful people working/volunteering here with a true passion to preserve and care for our local wildlife. Highly recommend this organization.
I’ve (unfortunately) had to utilize the services of Wildcare a few times in the past couple of years - usually for squirrels and pigeons - and they have always been very helpful and caring. I love the facility and before Covid would enjoy taking my son to visit! This is a quality establishment and has always been more than helpful with any animal I’ve needed their expertise with.
I have known Wildcare since the 1970s when we visited as teenagers. The work they do is amazing. What a wonderful resource to have in our backyard.
I started volunteering at Wildcare 7 years ago in their Birdroom. We are a center that rehabs our local wildlife and works with the community to help us all understand how to live with and respect that wildlife. During baby season we feed numerous local species of orphaned and injured animals. We are also one of the few wildlife rescues in the area that cares for pigeons. Pigeons are quite lovely and baby pigeons are truly delightful, with their yellow tufts and excited curiosity. (Can you tell I love pigeons?).
Working at Wildcare has opened my eyes to how I can lessen my impact on our local wildlife and keep our beautiful county vibrant. The staff and volunteer staff are dedicated, working in our historic old facility, providing a second chance to our wild neighbors, and educating our human neighbors in how to live with and appreciate the beauty around us.
It's a really good organization and I'm proud to be a part of it.
WildCare plays a significant role along Marin partner agencies in providing the treatment, care, and rehabilitation of injured or orphaned wildlife through their open admission wildlife hospital: examples of intake can be animals or birds hit by autos, falling from their nests due to tree pruning, human harming, birds flying into windows, rat poison ingestion, netting ligatures, and more.
Temporary treatment means limiting human interaction and/or imprinting so that wildlife can then be released back into their native habitat and in the wild.
WildCare also provides educational outreach programs to local schools and encourages the participation of youth out in Nature. By providing learning, they also teach youth the importance of maintaining healthy ecosystems in the region and neighborly stewards of the amazing wildlife here in the Bay Area.
WildCare treats over 3,500 ill, injured and orphaned wild animal patients on an annual basis and is funded largely by public donations, grants, and fundraising.
I rate this nonprofit 10 stars if I could. Grateful for this non-profit
This is a truly wonderful animal hospital. Caring for the patients is the goal always but it is done with genuine kindness and collaboration across the different teams.
I am in awe of the work that is done and the care that is given and it is an honor to be part of the volunteer team.
I'm a new volunteer and am so impressed by the recruitment, onboarding and online training program that I received prior to walking through the doors to start my hands on volunteer duties. Fellow volunteers are very dedicated and supportive and the medical staff are out of this world! I originally thought about volunteering after bringing in an injured bird and being relieved and grateful to learn about the care it would receive at Wildcare. The "care" in their name is so meaningful. Thank you Wildcare!
I have been a volunteer nature guide for two years with WildCare. I can’t tell you how much I enjoy greeting school children at Muir Woods National Park, and leading them through the giant redwoods for a few hours on Wednesday mornings.
Our guides are the most incredible people on earth. They share their knowledge, laughter, insight and friendship without restraint. The school children always give back so much, kids truly do say the funniest things!
WildCare integrates our nature hikes, at three locations in Marin, with our overall mission to save wild animals that have been injured, abandoned, or simply in need of our help, every day of the year.
I’m very happy I chose WildCare as a volunteer opportunity! You may wish to consider joining us as well…
WildCare simply put is AMAZING! My husband and I have been a part of this organization for 10 years now. First as donors and then as volunteers. I always knew WildCare cared greatly for the critters and managed all of their donations wisely. However, once I started volunteering, I was blown away by how much this organizations does for the critters and how well they manage every cent to the fullest. The humans, staff, donors and volunteers alike, are the most kind and caring to the animals that I have ever witnessed.
I've been a volunteer at wildcare for over 7 years. It is an incredible organization, and I'm honored to be a part of it. I have learned *so* much, but not only that, every member of the staff is good people. They live and breathe the mission, and it gets really difficult some days. But they support each other, and us (the volunteers) and we get through it. The education team is amazing with the public, and the programs offered truly make a difference. I have zero reservations about supporting WildCare - both with my time and financially.
I find the volunteer work supporting Wildcare so gratifying, that I've been volunteering in the hospital for 20 years. As a volunteer you get great training on caring for the various species of injured and orphaned California wildlife as well and the satisfaction of knowing you did your part to help them recover and be released back into the wild.
Wildcare is a top notch group. They are total professionals in a unique field with their wildlife hospital. They are compensating for all the harm we humans do to wildlife. They also run a wonderful environmental education program open to all kids regardless of income.
The staff is very committed as is the board.
I have been a volunteer with WildCare for 10 years. I'm fortunate to be a part of the raccoon foster team. Fostering is an big commitment and it can be exhausting but knowing you've helped animals that otherwise might not have a chance is incredibly rewarding. The work WildCare does is so important and for me, so very rewarding. I look forward to my shift every week and I regularly tell people, and truly believe, it is the best thing I do with my life.
The care that Wildcare offers to the birds and animals is the best. Wildcare staff and volunteers go above and beyond their job requirements to make sure the patients are well taken care of and remain wild. Volunteers are committed to their tasks and always ready to pitch in. Wildcare is a gem in the Bay Area and is doing wonderful work to allow wildlife to thrive here. Thank you Wildcare!
I have been a WildCare volunteer for nearly a decade, spending time in both the hospital clinic sector and in the Ambassador Animal program. I have learned so much over time from not only the creatures I'm involved caring for, but from the most amazing, knowledgeable, and caring staff members who take the time to mentor me. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to volunteer at this facility and assist in caring for these wild beings who make our area such a beautiful place to call home.
I’ve been volunteering here for almost a year, I’ve loved every minute!! The staff and volunteers are so kind and professional, and everyone works so hard to help make sure all the animals are cared for.
