About ten years ago I offered to donate a year of my time to this very small grassroots organization. Ten years later I am still very involved with this awesome little organization.
American Indian culture tends to be collective in nature. Wildhorse exemplifies a collective managment style in that each member of the organization from the youngest youth member to the most honored and respected elder has an equal voice in the decision making about program activities, the daily running of the organization, and future goals and directions. The youth learn very specific life skills from their participation. As a result 100% of the youth involved with Wildhorse are either actively in school or gainfully employed. They develop and demonstrate wonderful ethics and values as they learn traditional music, dance, and related customs. They also explore their own cultural identiity as they learn cross-cultural awareness.
