Programs: Outpatient e. R. - wilcox memorial hospital ("wilcox) has a 20-bed emergency department that serves all kaua'i residents and visitors. In fiscal year 2010, it had 22,223 er visits, and is on track to be the first neighbor island facility to obtain a trauma iii designation. Also in fy10, wilcox successfully implemented a triage best practice called "rapid triage and immediate bed placement" to decrease both door-to-bed and door-to-doc times. This allows newly arriving patients to bypass the triage area, as well as nurse assessment and er physician evaluation to occur simultaneously. The philosophy improves service, quality and safety for patients needing emergency care.
outpatient or - wilcox is equipped with a state-of-the-art surgical center with six surgical suites, 20 same-day surgery beds, voice-activated robotics and computer-assisted technology. In fiscal year 2010, the wilcox surgical center increased its outpatient surgeries to 5,870. The center opened in the spring of 2006, part of a $10 million project and capital campaign.
outpatient infusion services - the infusion center at wilcox provides comprehensive, customized treatment regimens and procedures, including chemotherapy and palliative care for oncology and other services, such as blood/platelet transfusions; iv infusions of iv antibiotics, albumin, iron, remicaide, reclast and ivig; iv hydration; and phlebotomy. The highly trained and caring staff has acquired advanced certifications in oncology and/or palliative support and coordinates medical care with primary care physicians, oncologists, nurses, and community resources.
