This organization is dishonest. They raised over $25000 for a gay youth signature event in 2022 at a "Gala" where there was an auction for this specific cause. This money has, so far, not been used for that purpose, and if SOME of it was, there is a huge amount that is not going where they say it is. When donors give money to organizations there are many may rules and laws that need to be followed. They do not seem to be following those rules and laws at least when it comes to LGBTQ causes and LGBTQ youth. It is an absolute shame because I know they do a lot of different work for different communities - however that does not excuse their intentional ignoring of donor questions, canceling meetings, and other harmful behavior that ruins trust in this organization. I am pretty sure they are using donor money for items that are not allowed - but since they dont respond to emails or questions - and cancel in person meetings at the last minute I assume they are one of two things A) extremely incompetent or B) fraudulent. I am not sure which is worse. If you give this money to this organization do yourself a favor and throw it into a fire - at least you'll see something actually happen with it. If they are trying to get your hard earned GAY LESBIAN BISEXUAL TRANSGENDERED or QUEER money - please understand that money will likely not go to those causes. It is more likely they will use it on something else, entirely unrelated or to pay staff and overhead. This is an organization that does have LGBTQ people involved - which is great - but pretty much every non profit does... this one DOESN'T DELIVER.
The organization use to do a lot of good, but since the new leadership has taken over their focus seems to be on furthering their own career. Many individuals have questions why so much focus is on fund raising and so little on building a better community. The previous leadership did an wonderful job at creating a warm welcoming relationship with residence and business alike. The present leadership has at times created a hostile atmosphere. We no longer support WCCDA and would strongly urge you to donate to a more worthy organization.
