Mission: The mission of White Apple Institute (WAI) is to provide vocational rehabilitation resources for Veterans and Non-Veterans with disabilities and/or emotional challenges, for their success in higher education and the workforce. The vision of White Apple Institute (WAI) is to ensure that persons with Mental/Learning, Non-visible and Physical disabilities have equal access to educational and workforce opportunities. With a choice to accept the challenge to change the image and perception of “disabled” to “differently-abled.”

Target demographics: The majority of Nontraditional Adult Learners and Student Veterans serviced by White Apple Institute are working parents experiencing stressors that disable them emotionally in school, work and life. Theses stressors are multiplied by those who are Student Veterans and Student Parents with emotional, learning, mental, nonvisible, as well as physical disabilities. Fortunately, with the intervention of WAI and partnerships with local and national “disability and Veteran friendly” educational institutions, businesses, and organizations thousands of Adult Learners and Student Veterans have overcome hopelessness, homeless and suicidal thoughts. WAI Mentors encourage self-advocacy and self-rehabilitation to help Nontraditional and Underserved Adult Learners and Student Veterans adjust in crisis situations related to school, work and civilian life.

Geographic areas served: We CONNECT or reconnect YOU to vocational rehabilitation and independent living resources. We EDUCATE YOU about how to use the resources and self-advocate. We SUPPORT YOU emotionally throughout YOUR journey to WORKFORCE SUCCESS.

Programs: The White Apple Institute (WAI) Outreach and Mentorship Programs will provide our student veterans and adult learners equal access to education and employment through: a WAI Self-Rehabilitation Program developed by Danita Applewhite, Ph.D; direct professional and peer mentor support; Webinars; TeleRehab; the Ask Dr. Applewhite Talk Show; as well as access to vocational rehabilitation and independent living resources. Utilizing these two valuable programs, and more, we will ensure persons with non-visible mental, learning and physical disabilities can “Take a Bite of White Apple Wisdom” to “Changing Perceptions of Disabled, to Differently-Abled!”
