I have adopted from and volunteered at WAIF for 25 years. Today we have the best team ever - Donna and Cinnamon. The whole staff have been lifted up with new roles to cover all aspects of WAIF's needs and to help dogs become more adoptable. They work hard to ensure matches of dogs/cats and adopters are successful.
In the past there were very few animals available, but today there are many varied animals. If you are interested in volunteering there are beautiful trails and a big play yard as well as enrichment activities as well as projects to help with.

I have been closely involved with the WAIF organization on Whidbey Island for over 15 years. I am deeply impressed by, and profoundly grateful for the devotion and care of the staff and volunteers for the animals who come through its doors. Never have I seen such devotion, in any type of organization. The shelter is wonderful - clean, efficiently run, well managed, with indoor/outdoor kennels, enclosed cat patios, large exercise yards, walking trails, and education and clinic facilities. The staff is friendly and professional. They and the amazing volunteers do their utmost to provide love and enrichment for the animals in their care until they find their best, loving homes. Whidbey Island is so very fortunate to have this place and these people.. Thank you WAIF for all you do! We love you.

I've been volunteering at the Whidbey Animals Improvement Foundation for almost a year. The staff are some of the most caring people I have ever met. The other volunteers give so much of their time and hearts to caring for the cats and dogs in this shelter. The center had to take on a tremendous number of animals from a terrible hoarding situation, and even though it stretched their resources, the staff and volunteers stepped up to add hours and love for these extra needy cats and dogs. I love visiting the cats and helping to clean their cages and socialize with them. Socializing these animals makes them so much more adoptable. Many of the traumatized cats have become adjusted to people through the efforts of staff and volunteers, and have been adopted out. It's impressive and heartwarming.

I have been associated with WAIF for a number of years. I'm always impressed with their dedication to the care of animals. They are an outstanding group of professionals, whose mission is the care and placement of animals in need. WAIF is a well run foundation, that takes pride in its operation and accomplishments. 2023 offered unique challenges that they were able to successfully overcome. With strong management and constant focus on their mission, WAIF delivers amazing value to the community.

I am honored to be able to serve the animals in need on Whidbey Island as a member of the board of directors of WAIF. The shelter staff is dedicated and professional. It is obvious when talking with them that the welfare of the animals comes first. The shelter is clean, modern, and well-maintained and the care given is beyond wonderful. While working on some of WAIF's fundraisers, I have been impressed by the support given by our community and the positive comments from people who have adopted their pets from WAIF.

I have been a volunteer at WAIF for over 16 years; The staff and volunteers are very knowledgeable, caring, and loving towards all the cats and dogs. When an animal is adopted, I have tears of joy because a loving home has been found for him/her. The volunteers receive on-going training and skills to provide a safe and loving interaction with the animals. I admire all staff and volunteers for giving their time, attention, and love to the cats and dogs. WAIF is very-well run in a thorough organized manner, and I am always glad to give my love to the animals as in return I receive licks, kisses, and tail wags in return. THANK GOODNESS we are so fortunate to have WAIF, Brenda Wilbur

As a volunteer dog walker at WAIF, I can't say enough about the quality care all of the dogs and cats get there. It is apparent that for both volunteers and employees, the animals are not only cared for according to the highest standards, but are also very much loved. It brings great pleasure to volunteer where my efforts are much appreciated but also where the entire organization works to make sure that each animal gets top notch care until they are in their forever home.

I have been wanting to adopt a cat for some time but realized I couldn't but when I discovered WAIF's cat socializing program, I knew it was right for me
Now I go in to the shelter about once per week and spend time helping the cats to have ongoing people contact while meeting my needs to connect to animals in a meaningful way. It was c easy to sign up on line and the staff has made me feel really welcome.

I have adopted an animal (Truffle) from WAIF as well as volunteer here. Great consideration goes towards ensuring the animals in their care are well taken care of. WAIF does a great job being involved in community events, and all of the staff are helpful and friendly.

WAIF is run by an amazing group of employees and volunteers who ALWAYS have the best welfare of animals forefront! Earlier this year when a local hoarding situation came up in our small community, WAIF jumped in and handled it professionally and without concern for the cost. The situation has been resolved and all of the dogs, many of the cats, and an assortment of other animals having loving, safe homes thanks to WAIF. Job well done!

It is a very clean and well organized and run facility. The staff are always very helpful and friendly and you can tell that they love what they do. We have just recently started to volunteer, but have enjoyed every time that we have gone. We feel it is a great way to give back to the community as we are big animal lovers. Everyone involved will go out of their way to help you if you have questions or need more information about a specific dog or cat before you interact with them. Very nice walking trails and exercise yards. We have been to many shelters around the area and we feel that this is by far one of the best, if not the best in the area.

My husband and I recently contacted WAIF in Coupeville, Washington to volunteer our time and services to the center. We have found the facility new, well-maintained, and grateful for our time and assistance. They do keep the facility clean and take good care of the cats and dogs in their care. The staff has also been very attentive to our needs where it involves protocol and procedures. It’s a large facility and you can get a bit lost, but there’s someone always available to point you in the right direction.

I have been volunteering at the Coupeville WAIF shelter for more than two years and it's easily the best part of my week. The staff is so caring and their love for all of the animals they care for is evident. I've been around many times as they are sharing little tidbits and anecdotes with prospective adopters and it's so clear that they love each and every fur baby in their facility. This place is amazing!
