Mission: The foundation's mission is to (a) raise funds for and provide support for hospice services in whatcom county and the surrounding area; (b) to lessen the burdens of government by assistance to the above described program; and (c) to assist the general public in gaining access to appropriate hospice care services throughout areas now or hereafter served, subject to the restrictions and limitations in the corporation's articles of incorporation.
Programs: Support for whatcom hospice, a program of peacehealth st. Joseph medical center; to assist the public in gaining access to appropriate hospice care, support hospice education, under-reimbursed care, bereavment, home respite, therapies, and comfort programs. Whatcom hospice house serves 125 patients every day. Hospice professionals work with both patients and their loved ones to create individualized plans of care which enable patients to live the final days of their lives comfortably and pain free, with dignity, purpose and peace. The foundation receives from peacehealth st. Joseph medical center and peacehealth corporation donated facilities, which include space rental, property and equipment, utilities and employee services. The estimated fair market value of $160,764 of such items has been reflected in the financial statements as a part of in-kind contributions and expenses, and $148,904 of such contribution of hospital personnel has been included on form 990 to accurately reflect the financial position of the foundation, the remainder of $11,860 of donated space is omitted per form 990 instructions.
