Mission: Started in 1968 by radio station WGHQ to serve needy families during the Christmas Holiday Season.
Each year local area school districts in Northern Ulster County School Districts along with Ulster County Community Action and the Kingston Human Relations Commission make available lists of people in need of help.
The WGHQ Happy Christmas Fund is non-sectarian and helps children and senior citizens regardless of religious denomination.
In 1986 the Stewarts Corporation, a regional convenience store chain, joined the Fund to help increase the amount of contributions through a matching fund program.
Distributions to the needy over the last 38 years have totaled over $967,000 and have helped tens of thousands of children and seniors citizens.
No cash is given to the Happy Christmas Fund recipients, just gift certificates for children's clothes and toys and food.
The WGHQ Happy Christmas Fund is a tax-exempt corporation and is registered with the New York State Department of Charities. All gifts are tax deductible as allowed by law.
All money received is spent in the Ulster County area.
100% of money received goes to the needy. There are no administration expenses taken from donations.
