Mission: Founded in 1981, twc is the only organization in oregon dedicated to promoting community and private partnerships to permanently protect and conserve oregons greatest wetlands our most biologically rich and diverse lands. For more than 30 years, twc has educated and assisted landowners, neighborhood groups, land trusts, and watershed councils on local stewardship.
Programs: Land acquisition - the wetlands conservancy uses land acquisition as a major tool in implementing our mission to partner with communities across oregon to conserve oregon's greatest wetlands for current and future generations. Working with local communities, including public and private sector partners, we have conserved some of oregon's greatest wetlands within yaquina estuary, beaver creek, alsea estuary, closed lakes basin and the willamette valley, including the portland metro region.
operations - over the past twelve years since launching our oregon's greatest wetlands program, more than 30,000 acres of oregon's best wetlands have been permanently protected, including over 1,000 acres that are now twc preserves in the central coast and the willamette valley. Our operations program includes landowner cultivation,fundraising, communication, due diligence and acquisition tasks which result in conservation of oregon's greatest wetlands. The operations program also includes the activities that support and implement our organizational standards and practices and accreditation by the land trust alliance.
research - as a leader in wetland conservation and restoration, the organization has created the oregon wetlands explorer, a data-rich tool for wetlands mapping, assessment, planning, and education. Our work as furthered the science and practice of habitat restoration an dprotection. The organization collects, analyzes and disseminates critical data to support wetlands conservation, restoration and education.
