Mission: Westchester residential opportunties is a hud-certified housing counseling agency with specialized programs to combat housing discrimination, and to assist first time homebuyers, the elderly and those facing eviction or mortgage default. Additionally, westchester residential opportunities provides housing and case management for the mentally ill. Westchester residential opportunities maintains a real estate license and focuses its efforts on promoting housing mobility and stability for minorities, and low and moderate income groups.
Programs: Independent living programthe independent living program consists of our supported housing apartment program and the single room occupancy program. The supported housing program provides individualized housing-related case management services and rental assistance to 42 adults recovering from serious mental illness, who wish to obtain permanent, affordable, independent housing. The 9 bed single room occupancy program, provides supportive services and supervision to 9 adults residing in the program, 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. This program is staffed around the clock to ensure that all residents are safe and receive appropriate supportive services and assistance as necessary.
fair housing programfair housing works to eliminate discrimination in the housing and lending markets through the handling of complaints, paired testing, accessibility surveys to promote housing access for persons with disabilities, education and outreach for consumers, civic and business organizations and other housing agencies, the training of real estate professionals, and the training of co-op boards. In 2017, 700 families and individuals were assisted with fair housing complaints, and over 2,400 real estate professionals were trained in our fair housing workshops.
foreclosure prevention wro assists homeowners who are experiencing temporary interruptions in income or financial hardship, such as for illness, causing nonpayment of the mortgage. Wro works with homeowners and the lender for possible options available to resolve financial hardships they are facing so they don't go into foreclosure. Mortgage assistance program (map) is our newly launched assistance, funded by nys, to help keep new yorkers in their homes by making mortgage loans up to $40,000 to homeowners who are at risk of foreclosure and are unable to get any assistance from other foreclosure prevention programs. In 2017 the program served 224 households.
