Causes: Health, Public Health
Mission: To work to improve the health of children and families in west virginia. To provide a forum for diverse organizations to discuss, coordinate and collaborate on issues that improve the health and well-being of west virginia children.
Programs: To create a prototype "try this" catalogue of activities and resources to help communities in west virginia fight the poor child and family health and obesity that traps many in poverty, and to host a leadership summit to focus on community strategies for reducing child poverty and obesity.
parents as mentors is a program to engage low-income parents and community leaders to serve as teachers aides in schools, as a way to improve the relationship between schools and low-income communities. The program is currently a pilot program based on the west side of charleston.
our children, our future is a statewide anti-poverty coalition that conducts dozens of community meetings, leadership trainings, and educational sessions so that everyday people can learn how to be involved in their communities.
