Causes: Disaster Aid, Fire Prevention
Mission: Our mission is to mitigate loss due to wildfire in wildland urban interface communities while fostering interagency regional partnerships to help prepare counties, fire protection districts, communities and agencies to plan for and mitigate potential threats from wildfire.
Target demographics: We help homeowners and our partners mitigate loss from wildfire through wildfire preparedness, prevention, and mitigation.
Direct beneficiaries per year: Over 400 homeowners, resulting in 460 acres treated!
Geographic areas served: The six "West Region" counties of Gunnison, Hinsdale, Delta, Montrose, Ouray, and San Miguel in Western Colorado.
Programs: SITE VISITS - provides site-specific recommendations on ways to reduce wildfire risk. FUEL MITIGATION PROJECT LAYOUT – provides technical assistance in designing and marking out vegetation for removal. COST-SHARE PROGRAM - provides technical assistance and up to 75% cost share reimbursement of the total project cost for completed mitigation treatments that pass final compliance inspection. COMMUNITY CHIPPING PROGRAM - provides free on-site chipping of slash from mitigation projects to individuals in enrolled communities.
