West Michigan Dog Sports is working hard to meet a huge need for their services in the West Michigan area. They are building a strong foundational background for their organization by developing solid business practices and policies, working with a CPA for tracking financial transactions and donations, establishing a relationship with a local bank and attorney, and have retained a non-profit consultant to guide them in how to function as a non-profit board and to conduct a feasibility study of their proposed project. I feel this organization is taking the time to build a solid foundation to grow and be successful in the future.
Competitiion is not the only reason to get your dog(s) and yourself involved in dog sports. It's a great way to expand your dog's experience in the world, socialize your dog (and yourself) and strengthen the bond between you and the dog(s).
If you want to try dog sports, but don't have the interest in competition, this is still a great option for you.
The mission of West Michigan Dog Sports is to provide a much needed service to the West Michigan area to teach youth and other individuals about the many career opportunities available relating to dogs, to provide a local venue for specific testing in dogs such as evaluations of heart, eyes, hips, etc. and to offer seminars related to dog health, to be a resource for training dogs in basic obedience as well as sports activities, to offer special programs to individuals who rescue dogs or need financial assistance for training their dogs and to provide a local facility large enough to host dog competitions and trails.
